Old Beauty News Thread
@pocketvenus No worries, I've mistyped/misworded things several times and ended up editing for clarity after the fact. Sometimes I've read my posts a day or two later and thought "what the heck was wrong with my brain that day/night?" 😂
Agreed: without a standard definition of “clean” that’s used throughout the cosmetics industry, it’ll be very hard for the plaintiff to claim Sephora’s own definition is wrong since that’s the definition Sephora customers are expected to use, not a dictionary's. If the plaintiff could compare Sephora’s definition to a cosmetics industry standard definition or, better yet, actual government certification requirements, then they could perhaps say Sephora’s not meeting the industry standard or certification reqs.
@WinglessOne Great sleuthing! Love your rambles 🙂 Yes, Sephora should definitely fix that!!
And it's so funny in my earlier response higher up in this thread, I'm thinking about how "clean" is this imaginary category in people's minds - no chemicals which is impossible. I gather what consumers are truly asking for is products that will be free of harm first and foremost to themselves. It is a reasonable expectation except like all categories, the category of safety can never be absolute and the vaguer the boundaries of a category, say the super vague "clean," the more inconsistency we'll have in the act of categorizing. With something as complex as skincare, there's going to be ingredients not so easily categorized. As well, some products, like skincare with higher concentrations of retinols, can be amazingly helpful to some and way too harsh for others. The Olaplex might be a good example of this.
@pocketvenus honestly, I'm sick of all of the Olaplex lawsuits. Agreed, there are plenty of people who have experienced problems from the formula but that can literally be said about ANY product. It's like finding that a specific foundation causes a person to break out; is it reasonable to sue the company that produces the foundation because you experienced an issue with it? Should a person sue a grocery store for selling peanuts if that person has a nut allergy because the store is selling "harmful ingredients"?
Olaplex works well for plenty of people and while I'm sorry that a certain percentage of users have had issues, it disgusts me that this has blown so out of proportion.
Biossance discontinued their Glycolic Renewal mask. Kohls has some available.
A Biossance rep recommended the overnight mask by Pipette as a substitute. Pipette and Biossance are both brands of the same company.
First the Rose Vitamin C mask and now this one, @Ispend2much6 😢 Both were so good to my skin. Thank you for the PSA!
@eshoe I know!! A friend of mine loved the tea tree mask, also discontinued. I always knew my skin loved glycolic acid (I use The Ordinary's The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toning Solution 8 oz/ 240 mL ,) but this Biossance mask is unbelievable! Totally clear and smooth skin for three days.
@Ispend2much6 well I certainly hope this does not mean they are going under. Maybe repackaging? One can hope?
I've been nothing a ton of their stuff at tjmaxx lately. Their marine algae eye cream, the mask, hand cream, and that copp Peptide Serum as well.
@sarahshter This makes me very nervous that they might be going under.
Just saw this update on Glossier coming to Sephora. Looks like next month.
Per WWD, "The brand launches in all Sephora doors across Sephora U.S. and Canada on Feb. 23".
Thank you for the update, @itsfi. It seems long overdue! I have been waiting to restock a few items so this is extra-exciting 🙌🏼
@itsfi Good to know!
I was kinda surprised to see how much of Glossier's product catalog is now at Sephora.com. I expected best sellers (though I totally forgot about their skincare and fragrance products) but I guess the brand's going all in with footprint expansion. Very interesting.
@WinglessOne, it will be very interesting to see how this works out. From what I can glean, the products themselves don’t appear to have gone through a change in redesign or reformulation but there is a rebranding going on with the brand. A new CEO, a shift from being only direct to consumer, etc. I also in a New York Times article, that the brand will also be introducing new products (some in the form of new colors) at a quicker rate. I don’t have many Glossier products in my rotation but am intrigued to see what their next steps are from a business perspective.
Thanks for the update, @eshoe ! I wondered why we hadn't seen or heard any Sephora-side rumblings yet (such as the brand name appearing on Sephora's brand list ahead of launch), since Glossier was supposed to arrive this month. Good to know this is still happening in early 2023. 🙂
I'm glad folks will be able to swatch Glossier products in person before buying. I assume Sephora will get Glossier's top selling products, but we'll see. Not that I know which products are their top sellers... I assume Cloud Paint and Boy Brow are among them. Also assume they'll sell their eyeliners in stores, since those are a relatively new addition to the lineup (they're not the old Glossier Play liners), and probably Balm Dotcom.
You make a good point. My mind just automatically thinks everything will be here but like both you and @SportyGirly125 hinted, it might be top sellers (at least in the initial stage, I hope?). I would like to see their perfume and liquid liner as well, but we'll see.
That is a good question @SportyGirly125. I have been holding off on reordering a couple of things because I was waiting for it to come here. I guess we will see soon enough.
I don't think these releases were posted yet. I love how Lancôme keeps reinventing their packaging; I think it keeps the brand looking fresh!
From their marketing emails: "Bearbrick is a collectible produced by the Japanese company Medicom Toy and has been one of the most desired collectibles since its release 21 years ago."

They also have their latest Valentine's Day collection out, also in limited edition packaging, in the shades 196 French Touch and 218 Petite Maille
