Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Week 50: The Sticks 2.0 Makeup Capsule

A more streamlined capsule, with options for eyes and lips.

Primer: d'alba White Truffle Double Serum - for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I'll wear it on one half of my face and the other half, no primer, to see how this performs. Today and Friday, it will be used all over - the folks I have videoconferencing calls with don't seem like the type who would be interested in me following up with them on which side of my face looks better. Ha!

Recap/Review: Week 49 The Beautifully Bold & Delightfully Demure Makeup Capsule

Last week's capsule was a fun one. My capsule inclued a lot of products I hadn't reached for in some time so it was nice to revisit many of those beauties. I caught a cold last week so there were a couple of days when I wore very little, if any, makeup.

Cheeks: I like the ease and convenience of having all three cheek products in one palette. The blush is more pink than I typically wear but it blends out to a more diffused shade of pink. I used this trio for last week's princess/prince theme for theCheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe. 

Eyeliner: Non-liquid eyeliners are one of those beauty categories where I, for the most part, can rein a little better. Most non-liquid liners don't hold up so well against my eyes, lol. So I don't buy or keep many on hand - these were pretty good. I do love the colors. 

Lips: 'tis the season for moody lips. The Fenty and Rare Beauty swatch deeper, darker on my arm than how they wear on my lips. On the other hand, the Florasis looks brighter, pinkier red than it does on my lips. I tried making adjustments to the photo but that just made my arm look ... radioactive. 😅

😍  Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Matte Lipstick Gifted - this was a surprise winner for me. I thought it would be too dark, but it's been lovely - I've worn it softly, blended out for a more stain look as well as full color, and I enjoy both. So much so that there's a full size on the way. 

🗑  Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Matte Lipstick Lively is not for me though. It leans warmer and pulls more orange/coral on my lips than I like. I was reminded that I had this sample card when I saw @peculiarzmakeup post her looks with it - both shades look gorgeous on her, btw. 

❓  I'm debating on whether to keep the Pat McGrath Labs x Bridgerton cheek trio palette. The colors are pretty and I don't think I have another just cheeks palette but I'm not sure how much I would reach for this one. 🤔  Unless I'm swayed otherwise, my plan is to keep it in my stash until / through summer/early fall 2025 to see how it works out when it's warmer out and my skin leans more combo.

Week 49: The Beautifully Bold or Delightfully Demure Makeup Capsule 

I'm going to do a mixed makeup capsule this week - a bold and demure look. Love this theme you and your mom inspired @caitbird ❣️

😊  Demure cheeks - pink cheeks a la Sleeping Beauty / Princess Aurora for this week's cheeks theme on the Cheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe with the limited edition Pat McGrath Divine Blush, Bronze and Glow Trio (Fleurever Nude). I'll post swatches and thoughts to the Cheek Challenge thread later in the week.

👁  (Mostly) demure eyes - The shadows in the Cle de Peau quad (discontinued) are softly hued, but they do show up. For a bolder eye look, I plan to use GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner Bathwater as liner, and, in the outer V, alternate between GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner Thunderbolt or Danessa Myricks Beauty Infinite Chrome Waterproof Micropencil Eyeliner Bronzite.

💄  Bold lips - I would not have thought I'd go for a whole week of bold lip looks, but this capsule challenge and the battle of the red lipsticks have brought out some shades that I've grown fond of, including the lip colors I've set aside as optins for the week -

I'll alternate between LYS Beauty Triple Fix Serum Foundation MN1 (sample) and Live Tinted Hueguard Tint Skin Tint (shade 9). Lately, I've really been liking the look I get with my foundations when I stipple it on with  SEPHORA COLLECTION Essential Brush - 06 Multitasker Face and then go in with the Sonia Kashuk beauty sponge to press the product into my skin a little more. I've been finding with both the LYS and Live Tinted and the SC Essentials Brush 06 that I just need a little bit of product. 

"Fits" is a Sephora shopping bag 💖 - it makes me feel like I'm shopping, which I'm hoping will keep me in check with whatever future purchases I may make. 😉😆

Week 48 Recap:

Given the theme last week, it makes sense that all the items decluttered were from the last round of the battle of the red lipsticks - Battle of the Red Lipsticks, Round 3 and not the products making up the makeup capsule.

LYS Beauty Triple Fix Serum Foundation MN1 - the formula on this one is good. "Serum" foundation is right, but it's a lightweight serum and feels and looks good applied to the skin. 

Valentino Brow Trio Eyebrow Liner - @PrettyPaint, the felt tip brush side is one I've been enjoying. It took me a couple of wear tests to figure out that using gentle, light strokes - where it's almost like I'm just flicking the liner along my brown - works best. Using a drawing motion makes it too obvious but slight flicks make for a natural, pretty look.

Love your idea to have options for more demure *and* more bold looks, if I (hopefully) manage to get it together this week and put together a capsule, I think I'll do the same. I like to have options!

Also, woohoo, way to go with all those declutters, that's awesome! I need to get back on track with decluttering my collection. And hey, decluttering is one of the Wellness In Progress: December 2024  tasks this month! Win-win!

It's great to have options, isn't it @caitbird?! That was such a great story and now memorialized in a makeup capsule theme! A fabuous one at that! 

I'm happy with how decluttering has gone this year through this capsule and also through the Re: Beauty Product Battles, Throw Downs & Showdowns. I've also brought in less product so I feel like it's not a wash with the declutters. Some days I feel like I need to declutter more though but just have to remind myself this is more than I thought I would be able to do. It's also been easier for me to pass on products I would have previously purchased right away and to let go of items I would have held onto a lot longer before this challenge.

@itsfi  that's great that you are noticing good progress with decluttering more and purchasing less. I hope to move things more in that direction and achieve more of a balance of products in vs out (both empties and declutters), but it is very much a work in progress 😅 One of my biggest beauty goals for the coming year is to shop my stash much more - I have so many great products, and lots that I haven't even tried yet. This capsule challenge is a great (and fun) opportunity to encourage & inspire me to bring old and new products into rotation, so I hope it will continue in 2025! 😉

Ahhh, yes, indeed @caitbird! It’s all definitely a work in progress. BIC makes it fun. Rotating through what I have helps with seeing if something works well for me and I have a better sense of what to let go and what I want to keep. Doesn’t always make it easier to let go of something though.

I also found that it allowed me to discover or rediscover old loves that I might not otherwise have gotten around to, or gotten around to again. The challenge will be back next year 🙌🏼  with some themes being brought back and some new ones, as well as some tweaks here and there to keep things (hopefully) interesting and fresh!

That fit, It was sooo close @danielledanielle. you really did pack alot into that space!👌 It might just be the camera angle, but the two Hourglass limited edition palette's, are they the same size? Tiger looks so big in comparison but maybe it's just cuz it's closer to the camera? 😅
