Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

I have news!!!! This coming week's capsule theme has been posted to Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025 - we're ushering the new year with a capsule focused on newness or new-to-you makeup product(s). All you need is just one product - and I suspect that this crew has made some purchases during the holiday and year end sales. 😅 I'm working on catching up but will post my capsule in the next day or so. The rest of the January themes will be posted by end of day on January 2.

Week 52, Part 2 - The "2024 Makeup Capsule Collection" Makeup Capsule   

For this second capsule for the week, I went with the products that were my primary go-to's this year for my every day look. This doesn't include a lip product (WHAT?!!) or mascara - my everyday look would include a lippie of some sorty 100% of the time and waterproof mascara 85% of the time. Those two items though changed a lot and I didn't necessarily have one that was my go-to for most of the year.

The "Fits": 

I went sans makeup today. These are the items I'll reach for Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, and probably tomorrow morning (Christmas Eve) when I run out to grab one last Christmas gift - I KNOW!!! But I need freshly homemade dog treats for a pup. After I finish with my share of the prep work for dinner on Christmas Day, I'll wash up and use this week's other capsule for the Christmas Eve festivities. 

December Declutters:

There won't be any more makeup declutters for the rest of the year, so for the month of December, there was only 1 declutter - a foil sample of the Rare Beauty Lively lipstick. That bring the year-to-date total to 111 makeup products decluttered as a result of the weekly capsules for this challenge (and the red lipstick battles from the  Beauty Product Battles, Throw Downs and Showdowns) for 2024.

Wrapping up with a list of what makeup would make up 😆 my ultimate makeup capsule collection if I had to put that together today.  My general rule was no more than 5 "must haves" for complexion and lip products, and waterproof mascara. For all other categories, no more then 3 "must haves".

I'm neither a minimalist nor maximalist when it comes to what I'd want for an ultimate makeup capsule - I don't want hundreds of items per category but at the same time, there are beauty products where I will want some options and 2 may not be enough options. That said, my ideal makeup capsule will be more than what is traditionally thought of as a "capsule" but it's going to be far less than what I currently have (well, if all goes right).

I have a handful of products that I haven't opened, some from holiday sales and others from purchases earlier in the year that I just didn't get to. Yikes! My plan is to revisit this list quarterly next year to see if there's anything that needs to be added or removed or relocated from a "must have" to "honorable mention" or vice versa. And, yes, not gonna lie, I included or allowed for an "honorable mentions" category so I could sneak in more products. Hahaha!

Week 52, Part 1 - The Holiday Glam Makeup Capsule  

52 weeks!!! We are so, so close to getting through a year of makeup capsules. Woah. 😲 What a year! I started 2024 wanting to (1) come up with an ultimate makeup capsule collection, (2) use the products in my existing stash, and (3) declutter ones that were not as well suited for me as other products (but doing it in a practical way). Most of those goals (numbers 2 & 3) were met; and, while I have come up with my ultimate makeup capsule collection, I did make some progress torwards that. 

Like last week, I'll have two capsules this week, one for each theme. The first is below. 

The Holiday Glam Makeup Capsule - December 24, 25 & very likely, carrying the capsule over into the 31st

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base Moisturizer & Primer with Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid 1.7 oz/... - a dry/very dry-skin gal's (or guy's) treat for priming skin for make up (and give it some extra moisture) 🐐

Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Oil-Free Foundation - there's good reason it's made multiple apearances on a host of Best of Beauty Hall of Fame. For me, it's been a staple in my collection for decades, plural. 🐐 

DIOR Backstage Concealer - this may be tube #2; it's good stuff. 

Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara 01 Waterproof Big is The New Black - this nudged Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof off the top perch 5 or 6 years ago (?) and was itself knocked off as my #1 mascara this year. It's still in the top 5. 😘 

ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray 1 oz/ 46 mL - well loved by many BIC beauties (and Beyonce, too!), this one took me some time to warm up too - I need to make sure my dry & dehydrated skin is very well moisturized before spritzing my face with this setting spray. 👍

Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes - this is such a pretty lip palette, inside and out. I am thiiiiis close to finishing it and I am determined to use it all up before the end of the year - it's part of this year's pan it! challenge and I'm cutting it close with this beauty.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Contour Stylus - I'm practicing nose contouring. Do I need to use this product (which is a splurge) to practice with? Nope, not at all. Am I going to use it? Oh yes, I am. 😊

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil Stain Delight is more of a lip stain and a pretty deeper red one at that - it's described as rosy brown but shows up a soft, deeper red on my lips). I will apply it first, let it settle in, and then apply the Westman Atelier over it with a lip brush - pictured here is a long discontinued Sephora Collection lip brush.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Waterproof Cream Eyeshadow Stick Golden Bronze - is one of my go-to eyeshadow sticks. This shade works for me as either a one-and-done or smudged and blended out on the outer V and crease areas.

The "Fits":  

They do (with some adjustments here and there as I was zipping it up) in this textured, but soft, small, sparkly but velvety looking deep red pouch. I could use it as a mini clutch if it were not filled to the gills with product for part of this week's makeup. 😅 I might be able to squeeze in my drivers license and a credit card. Might. 

I'll post the capsule for second theme (or part of the second theme as that one really includes all the makeup products from this week and last week), together with a list of the products that make up my 2024 ultimate makeup capsule collection (or the parts that I've finalized) later today - after I've had some breakfast and after I've decided whether I'm going to "place order" on a couple of clothing items in my cart. 😂

I looked back at my pan projects and it has been over 2 years since it’s been an item I’ve worked on panning which means I’ve had it even longer! 😮 I’m aiming to call it a day before 12/31 and do some unplugging (we shall see how that ends up working out 🤪) so I’ve been focused on  getting every last ounce of this one! Not sure if there’ll be a lippie in the 2025 pan it! challenge for me.

@Samtian, it was this year when I made noticeable progress. I brought it into the pan it! fold in April 2022 as a substitute for another pan it! product that wasn't working out. 2 years & 20 months! I hit the teensy, teensy tiniest bit of pan (and I mean, an itty bitty bit) on the first shade in August 2023 and this year that combining the shades with each other both helped with panning and gave me lip colors I liked more than each of the individual ones on their own. I think at the start of this year it was one of those, oh good grief, if I don't get crackin' on it, it could be in my pan it! project for. ever. Hahaha!

@itsfi That Dior concealer is a good one. I haven't used it in a while, but I remember liking it. I haven't tried the VB contour, but I'm curious about it!

@PrettyPaint, the Dior Backstage is one of those concealers that I sometimes forget about when I get distracted with trying new concealers, but it really is quite good. Going through these capsules regularly has kept it (and other well loved beauties) more top of mind. 👍🏼 I like the brush tip - it’s the only concealer I’ve used with a brush tip - works well for me under the eyes and around the corners of my nose. 

Ohhh, the VBB Contour Stylus. It’s one of those beauties that if you were to break down the amount of product you get for the cost, it’s not gonna sway you into the “I must have it” camp. BUT, I like the ease and convenience of it and that for me personally makes it worth picking up. Nose contour is high on my list of things to learn how to do right / well for next year (theres a lot on that  list 😆) and having something easy peasy like this makes it a lot more likely that I’ll put the effort into using it and learning how to contour my nose.

@itsfi The brush on the Dior concealer is really nice. I remember I liked that for getting around the corners of my nose and near the eyes too! 

The Contour Stylus definitely looks quite user friendly in your photos. I have a contour stick, but it's much thicker and I don't think it would work for the nose very well. I have no idea how to do nose contouring, anyhow, though! 🙂
