Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2024

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

0 - 8.18 edit capsule post 2.jpg
0 - 8.18 edit capsule post 4.jpg
To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Whether you find yourself in the same place or somewhere in between, jump right on it and share your weekly makeup capsule. Check out the FAQ section below ⤵️ for more info on this challenge.

CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:

Week 52 (December 23 - December 29) - The Holiday Glam Makeup Capsule and/or  The "2024 Makeup Capsule Collection" Makeup Capsule - Some options for us to close out the makeup capsules for 2024 (or to kick start 2025)!

Show us the beauties you use when you want to add glitz and glam (or, that up the glitz and glam element) to your makeup look.

and/or

Curate a bag with your go-to, GOAT, ride-or-die products that would make up your ultimate makeup capsule collection (for 2024). If it's too much to put together a creme de la creme capsule or if you're at your best with options, consider putting together a makeup capsules of one or more favorites you discovered (or re-discovered) in 2024.

What is a capsule makeup collection?

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.

Why have a capsule makeup collection?

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Yes, i have the large tote. I will get back to you with the size. It is very large and it has a zipper. The bottoms have a flat base, which makes it even roomier!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

“…which makes it even roomier.” Ohhh, that sounds great @Mellmars1185! I also love that the bottom flattens. 👍🏼

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Week 42 - The "Makeup I'm Thankful For" Makeup Capsule

First, I want to wish our Canadian BIC beauties a very Happy Thanksgiving! Not gonna lie, I do hope to see some of your spreads on the What's on your plate? thread. 😍😋 Thankful for each of you and the ways you bring such joy and cheer to the BIC with your beauty, inside and out!

42 - Thankful (Canada).jpg

Just gonna say it, I had a lot of fun putting this week's capsule together. It took me a bit of time editing what to include and what to save for another week - I seem to want more and more options. 😂 Lately though, I've been making more of a conscious effort to go back and forth when it comes to the size of my capsules - having a more minimalist capsule one week and then, a more ... comprehensive 😚 one another week. It doesn't always go back and forth one and then the other, but it's been a good way to figure out what is a good size capsule I'm comfortable with.

Spoiler
🇨🇦  = Canadian beauty brand (which I've defined as Canadian-founded or owned, or manufactured or headquartered (initially or currently) in Canada)
🎁  = Gratis
💝  = Gifted
🐐  = GOAT
🥊  = Throwdown / Battle

Also, an asterisk (*) next to the name of a product means this week will be the first time I've put this product to use.

COMPLEXION:
💚  Primer (Face) - Dr. Jart+ Mini Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 15 mL/ .50 fl oz does double duty - it evens skin tone by concealing the redness I have on my cheeks and around my nose, and works wonderfully as a makeup primer. Thankful for this beauty, indeed! And thankful for @CynthieLu's posting her inclusion of the Dr. Jart Cicapair serum in her capsule this week. I was going to use a different primer but then made a last minute change to the lineup.

🇨🇦  Foundation - ILIA Skin Rewind Blurring Foundation and Concealer Complexion Stick - this is a newwer to me product and I am looking forward to focusing on it this week. Appreciate the ease and convenience of a stick product!

🇨🇦  Concealer - LYS Beauty Triple Fix Brightening Concealer - so happy and thankful that I've found my shade - confirmed by the brand reps at SEPHORiA.

🇨🇦  Setting Spray - MAC Fix+ Stay Over Alcohol-Free 16HR Setting Spray - so pleased to see MAC brought an alcohol-free version to its setting spray family.

EYES:
😎  Primer (Eye) - Going for another week with about-face Eye Shadow Fix Eye Primer

🎀  Brows - MERIT Brow 1980 Volumizing Tinted Eyebrow Gel-Pomade - I'm interested to see how your battle with this one goes @ather, when it comes time for that throwdown to take place.

🇨🇦  Eye shadow - MAC Eye Shadow - Woodwinked - an old school throwback!

🔬  Mascara - layering Tower 28 Beauty Mini MakeWaves Lengthening + Volumizing Mascara Jet and Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara Black - these are two of my favorites so we shall see how mascara layering works out for me

😘  Liner (waterline)Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light 1 (discontinued)

CHEEKS:
I'm going with blonzlights for my cheeks with the following products. I also plan to experiment a few days this week with an underpainting approach to blonzlights.

🎁  Blush - Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Liquid Blush Virtue (gratis) - this is a product and sade that I wouldn't ordinarily have picked up on my own and am grateful for the opportunity to try it - a little goes a very loooooong way. A teeeeeeeny, tiiiiiiny dot is all you need. Seriously. Teeeeeeeny. Tiiiiiiny. Just a dot.

☀️  BronzerMAKEUP BY MARIO Softsculpt® Multi-Use Bronzing & Shaping Serum with Hyaluronic Acid @Mellmars1185 has spoken well of this product (and she makes this beauty look amazing); love the looks she has created when underpainting with this. Looking forward to seeing which of these shades work best for my skintone.

💝  Highlighter - I didn't have a rose-gold (rose-bronze) highlighter in my collection until I was generously gifted this Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight Mesmerize (thank you, thank you!). I've been mixing it with Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Enchant to get a lovely neutral rose-champagne highlight.

Shout out ❣️ to @danielledanielle  and the seasonal cheek challenges, including this season's challenge - Cheek Challenge Fall 2024: Fall Flushing Forward for introducing me to blushlights and bronzelights, which has made way for my combining all the cheek beauties for a blonzlight combo - it's been an easy, peasy way for me to do my cheeks, an area I have historically not tended to focus on, other than to conceal redness that can happen when my rosacea flares up.

LIPS:
💋  Lip Scrub - Tatcha The Kissu Lip Scrub 0.4 oz / 12g - important to exfoliate my lips, especially as they lean on the dry side, and, as I get older, it really has become more important. I tend to do it as part of my evening skincare routine, but there'll be some red lipsticks in play this week (and that I plan to play with for an extended period of time 🥊 - see reply post below this one ⤵️)

🇨🇦  Primer (Lip) - NUDESTIX Nudescreen SPF 30 Lip Balm Natural

💋  Lip Liner - I'll rotate Chanel Longwear Lip Pencil 162 Nude Brun and SEPHORA COLLECTION Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner 35 bad apple*

🇨🇦  Lipstick - Likewise, I'll rotate between two Canadian brands - one from a well known, well established brand (it's been in the beauty biz for 40 years, an OG-indie brand) MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick 916 Devoted to Chili (limited edition packaging) and the other from an up-and-coming, indigenous brand, Cheekbone Beauty Sustain Lipstick Keyah

🎁  Lip GlossPAT McGRATH LABS LUST: Lip Gloss Bronze Divinity (gratis) - Grateful not just for this sparkling beauty but for how it was gifted - I looooved the unboxing set up but even more than that, I so appreciated seeing and reading about everyone's unboxing, especially those for whom it was their first time receiving gratis. My first gratis still remains a cherished moment and memory. ❤️

THE "FITS":

A close-up shot of a few beauties from this week's capsule, highlighting Canadian beauty brands (or ones that started out in Canada). We've got a good mix here, with products from Ilia, Nudestix, some MAC, LYS Beauty and Cheekbone Beauty. <<patting myself on the back for streamlining my MAC choices, lol>>

42 - Thankful (Canada) Fits 1.jpg

The bag for this week is one of the best parts of this capsule. I have tried very hard this year (okay, maybe I could have tried harder some weeks) to not purchase any products (or accessories) specifically for the weekly capsules, but I couldn't resist picking up this bag - it's just too cute. And fits so well with this week's theme. It also fits all of the beauties in this week's capsule.

42 - Thankful (Canada) Fits 2.jpg

I'm excited to put these beauties to use this week. Here, we go!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Happy Thanksgiving I know this was a few weeks ago but such a beautiful sentiment, I love the beautiful statements you made about BIC and everyone’s enthusiastic, kind, supportive, and encouraging nature! Your capsules always bring such joy! Love how you organize them and I always learn so much about products and all things amazing! The fit is so beautiful! I could so relate to the RB blush being a dot I remember the first time I tried it. Very beautiful 🍁 @itsfi  it’s a joy to watch everyone’s capsules come to life. I appreciate you starting such a wonderful thread 🙂

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@peculiarzmakeup, completely agree, I’ve had such a blast seeing what’s in everyone’s capsules from week to week - some of us have more palettes, some have a more minimalist capsule while others have more variety.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi  A bit late but thank you for the thanksgiving wishes!  That bag is super cute!
I wasn’t aware Nudestix was Canadian!  I learned a thing today!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving all week long here @heartsmyface. I’m not Canadian but I’ve been celebrating it in honor of all the Canadian BIC beauties because … well, why wouldn’t I?! 😊

This bag is super fun! The material is great too. They need to make more bags like this. This challenge has given me lots to research and learn. 👍🏼

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi  Wow!!!!! I learned so many new things! I didn’t know all those brands started Canadian! I am impressed! I should have known this! MAC!!!! I am so surprised! And I love the throw back to Woodwinked is a huge throw back to my early days with makeup. Literally the only one I used. That bag is adorable!!! Perfect for this capsule!!! I will keep you posted on my thoughts on the Merit!!!

I am most thankful for great friends like you!!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@ather  Off the top of my head, the only Canadian brands I could think of were MAC and Bite and Bite diesnt even exist anymore! 🫣. Bad Canadian!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@heartsmyface  I’m here a bad Canadian also!! Is it bad I assumed we didn’t have any??

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@ather, Woodwinked is such a pretty color, with many ways to use it. I typically just do a quick wash of color, but I like that it is easily buildable.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Wonderful capsule! I LOVE your bag! It is perfect for this wks theme and will come in handy for others! Thank you for the compliment about the MBM bronzer. I like it because it goes on very light but you can layer it and build it up if you want to. You chose two great mascaras. I have been using the YSL lately but I am missing my Tower 28. I should try mixing/layering them also!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

This bag is so cute and fun @Mellmars1185! I feel like I now need one for every place I've visited - not that there are thaaat many places, but I feel like I may now start collecting something like this. 🤔

I feel like my collection of Makeup By Mario products is growing ... and growing ... which isn't bad because he has some great products but ...

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi That would be a useful souvenir! I have been picking up keychains and shotglasses for my family on my recent trips. Have you been to Canada before?

I hear you on the growing collection. His new palette is gorgeous. I have also heard great things about the new MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin™ Talc-Free Soft Blur Setting Powder

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@Mellmars1185, I visited Vancouver about 5 years ago. Stayed for a week. Loved it!! I'd go back to visit, and go to see other provinces while I'm there - Quebec, Toronto, Prince Edward Island, etc. It would be an extra long trip or multiple trips. We did a couple of guided tours, including one of Victoria Park.

His new palette looks really good - this is coming from someone who, with being so close with my project pan with the full size ND Biba palette, is being very selective about eye shadow palettes in general and eye shadow palettes with more than 5 shadows in it. 😂🤣😂 Oh, yes, I've heard raves about his loose powder - there have been a couple of reviews I've read that made me think of you - they said the loose powder rivals (or is better than) the original Givenchy Prisme Libre powder.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi  I am retroactively sad you didn’t visit me.  you’re not allowed to visit in the future without seeing me!  Rules!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Now I’m sad I made you sad @heartsmyface  😔😥🥺🥺🥺 I will most definitely visit you when I’m next in BC because first and foremost, no trip would be complete without doing so!!

Ahhhh, rules!!! I do follow them … most of the time. 😉 This is one rule I’d gladly follow!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi That sounds lovely. I would love to visit Vancouver one day!

Yes the MUBM powder launch has great timing!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

The bag thou! That's swell! @itsfi ahhh I believe it @missjeanie herself that put Cicapair SPF's on my radar, especially the camo drops version, which is thinner than the one in the jar. I like both but really enjoy it most in the drops.  Is that a little mini ghost pumpkin too? 👻 That's a cutie!

*Pause for applause* Wow! So many Canadian brands! Did this ever impress me to see so many homegrown brands in your capsule.  I feel bad to say some of them I knew and others I didn't. 🙈 I mean I should have know about MAC, not many makeup brands have actual stores here but MAC does.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Awww, thanks @CynthieLu! It was fun looking into the Canadian brands. I knew MAC and Cheekbone. At one point I knew about Nudestix but forgot until doing some research for this week's capsule. I feel like I may have mixed up LYS Beauty for another brand - whoops. Ilia was a new one to me. I wish there were standalone MAC stores - the ones in the city have closed. 😞 The nearest one to me is about a 45 minute drive, no traffic. There was next door to the Sephora downtown - as you can probably imagine, that made for a dangerous shopping trip when it was there.

Yes, yes, a mini ghost pumpkin. I saw them at the grocery store last month and picked it up - I usually miss out on the mini pumpkins because they get picked up pretty quickly.

pumpkin.jpg

I need help with identifying the things and places on the bag. Here's what I think are meant by the images.

42 - Thankful bag.jpg

Not sure about Glacier National Park or Banff, Canada place or that last one - Roosevelt Cottage. At first I thought the last one had to do with a famous government building, like the Parliament buildings in Victoria, BC, but the style seemed a little off. Also, does Canada have a particularly large population of polar bears? Tagging @Mellmars1185 as she may also be able to help with the identification of these images.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi  The dreamcatcher represents our indigenous populations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis who lived the land before Canada was colonized and the government committed cultural genocide.  We have  dark history.  They now make up about 5% of the Canadian population.

Many of our cities were named by the indigenous  people.  The indigenous name for Coquitlam, British Columbia is kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum), which means "Red Fish Up the River" in the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language.
Coquitlam River is right behind our house.  It’s spawning season!  Not my photo.
