WOW! 😀 I ONLY wear high-end luxury bands and I am not ashamed of it. 😀 I like Michele Wang because we have similar tones/style and I like her “tasteful” way of doing makeup. YouTube and instagrams are full of “clown-looking” makeup tutorials that I like to watch but not for me. I really do not care that Estée Lauder is reusing the formula. It happens. Michele Wang is a successful professional who likes to review makeup for her followers with similar tastes. I think only a few Youtubers are regularly reviewing luxury beauty. We appreciate it!!!!!
@BeansCat Just saw this thread and I’m living for it. Lol.
Totally agree with you. It is just makeup. Plus we can’t all agree with every review or reviewer. I often disagree with temptalia and she’s a true beauty review pro.
@BeansCat Agreed, it's really just makeup and many people from various backgrounds have different ways of appreciating it. Some have the collector's mentality (found everywhere, not just in beauty) to buy every new release and post about it asap. But the bashing on other aspects like health conditions or the love of fine dining begins to sound like psychological projection.
I think Michele Wang is also a hypochondriac & doesn't recommend the tom ford expressionproof shadows because she herself believes she can't wear them because in her head they will cause milia on her oh so sensitive eyelids! Maybe the ingredients do match that of Mac shadows but if she could wear them without her hypochondriac phobias being present and her believing she would get milia on her eyes she would not be dissing the T.F. ExpressionProof shadows. I don't particularly care for Ms. Wang I find her annoying and a no talent when it comes to applying makeup. To many other really true lovers of makeup and not just the high end like Mel Thompson just to mention one to waste my time with a fraud untalented ms. wang.
I wouldn't call someone a hypochondriac because they know what bothers their skin. I can't use anything with essential oil in it and that does NOT make me a hypochondriac. I like to know when a company pulls a fast one. I don't want to pay a TF price tag for a MAC product. Same thing happened when MAC and Smashbox used the exact same formula for foundation only Smashbox had a higher price tag. Also GA luminous silk shares a formula with L'oreal true match lumi. I choose to buy the GA. The main thing is information. The more you have the more you can make the correct decision for you. I'm a huge TF beauty fan but I'm not stupid enough to pay $110 for a synthetic bronzer brush that used to be natural hair or pay a TF price for basically a MAC paint pot.
@Ria0215 I don’t typically watch MW because we have very different styles but I did watch her video after I’d already purchased my Emotionproof shadows yesterday.
Honestly, I was kind of baffled by her outrage. It seemed like an outsized reaction and fairly naive to think that a conglomerate like Estée Lauder wouldn’t share formulations amongst their brands. Also, it’s my understanding that MAC discontinued the majority of their Paint Pots before these even came out, so it seems to me there is no correlation between most of the Paint Pots and the Emotionproof shades anyway.
that said, having tried them a few times I’m not crazy about the formula. I’m still trying to make it work but thus far I found it to emphasize texture in a way I don’t enjoy.
i do find it slightly disingenuous that MW is happy to post a video and make money off of it but still returning the product she’s used and is bashing. I can’t put a finger on it, but it rubs me the wrong way.
Companies know and plan at least a year out. So Estee Lauder did know they were moving a product from one of their brands to another. Why wouldn't they move it to a higher priced brand. More $ for them. This happens all the time and is not a surprise.
But I like to know what is going on so I can decide for myself. I don't give blind loyalty to any brand.
@MochapjMW had a similar outrage with the TF Extreme shadows that seemed disproportionate to the issue. I was put off that there was no inquiry with her TF SA or an EL rep as part of understanding why the formula looks so similar to a product half the price before making a video flaming the new product. I used to watch MW for the Sonia G brush releases, but I find her brush comparisons so lacking that I've turned to others for those reviews.
@TraceyEB I agree. I recall her reaction to the Extremes as well. I own the extreme range and there are definitely a few shades that totally suck (for shame, TF) but the worst quality ones weren’t any of the ones she had!
i think of it as the difference between someone like MW (who I consider a hobbyist) vs a MUA who would know that glitters aren’t best applied with a brush, or metallics are at their best with specific tools 🤷🏽♀️
I feel she has gotten so caught up in the race to be the first to post things that any critical thinking has gone out the window.
It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a YouTuber review a product and say they would be returning it. Good on Michele for disclosing she would be sending the shadows back.
Where is your critical thinking she first discredited Tom Ford's product for no good reason; only her personal reason she is a hypochondriac who thinks the formula gave her milia of the eye. So she makes money off the video discredits Tom Ford and then she will return them to purchase something new to use in another video and make more money. It hurts us the consumer and it is using you the viewer. Open your eyes and your mind to what is really being done. She is like a bad infomercial but only worst.
Excuse me? If I had a reaction to a Mac product and found out a Tom Ford product I just bought was a near dupe to it, I absolutely would be concerned and likely return it. I would not want to risk another reaction. There are plenty of people who have reactions to particular ingredients, whether you believe it or not.
Michele herself says she is not a makeup artist. She loves luxury makeup and skincare, and she shares her thoughts about it on her YT channel. She has a pretty good recall memory too, since she hadn't used her Mac pots in a long time. Her reasoning is valid to her. She shared her swatches so if you disagree with her review you at least saw a live swatch. Go ahead and make your own decision if you wish to purchase.
As for my thoughts on this, Tom Ford himself is someone who is devoted to luxury. The man takes several baths a day and tosses out his underwear after six months. He lives in luxury thanks to his customer base (and of course his talent). Everything he sells is at a luxury price point. He can do that for luxury, then he can manage to finesse a formula to his brands own specifications instead of merely copying a formula and marking it up solely because it bears his logo. Just my opinion.
If anyone wants to buy the products and rave about them, that's their right. Same goes for someone who thinks they are subpar. It's just makeup.
I happen to agree with Ria0215. I don't like Michele Wang either and also find her to be a no talent beauty youtuber just in it for the money & I also find her to be a hypochondriac. As far as Tom Ford being a luxury brand and that means he should decide on the formulation of what ingredients go into his products & he should not use the same ingredients that are in the Mac eye Pots is ridiculous! A lot of makeup products from different brands use the same ingredients if not the exact same ingredients in the same formulation that is Nothing New! Tom Ford doesn't decide on the ingredients in his products he has people who do that for his company; the same people who make the products for other makeup brands.
I purchased all of the Emotionproof shadows and they are gorgeous and I like the formulation I could care less if Mac had the formulation first and if Tom Ford is using the exact or similar formulation and is charging more for it! If I don't want to pay more for the Tom Ford product then I won't purchase it. Most of the Mac eye pots are discontinued except for the Matte shades. Michele Wang is all about the higher the price tag the higher it is the more she has to have it. The reason and only reason she bad mouthed the T.F. EmotionProof shadows is she was disappointed that after all her rush to be the first to video the product and all the money she spent on them that she could not use them because she is allergic to the formulation! So she used the opportunity to try and come off like the hero and say how Tom Ford is overcharging for the same ingredients that were in the Mac pots. Michele Wang could care less that the EmotionProof shadows cost more and that they have the same ingredients as the Mac eye pots it was really bothering her that she could not use the product because she was allergic to the ingredients. She should of just showed the swatches and said for anyone who loved the Mac Pots these EmotionProof shadows have the same formulation and they are pretty shades but they don't work for me because I get Milia from the ingredients instead she tried to come across like the shadows are no good and tom ford is ripping us off. Give me a break Ms. Wang could care less about how expensive a product cost the more expensive it is the more she loves it. Get a drugstore lotion but put it in a Sisley Paris bottle and put a high price tag on it & Ms. Wang would swear the bottle of lotion from Sisley Paris turned her skin into silk!
@Ria0215 I really don't know why you keep calling her a hypochondriac. As someone with rosacea and very sensitive skin I can assure you people can really get skin reactions - be it milia/clogged pores, breakouts, burning/stinging, redness or something else -- from almost any topical product you can think of. I have no reason to doubt that if she says she got milia from a particular product she did. It would be like you telling me a foundation with cyclopentasiloxane doesn't burn my skin when I know it does. I'm not a hypochondriac and it doesn't mean the product is bad, or that you shouldn't use it, just that I can't use it.
Stop taking anything I say personally as if it were directed toward you. I do think she is a hypochondriac and it isn't because of her statement of getting milia from Mac eyeshadow pots it is because of past video's when I use to actually watch her and realized through watching her that I did not care for her video's or her.
She would claim she had several different things wrong with her skin; one being an eczema break out somewhere on her face and bring the camera in close and there is NO eczema none to be found! She also said how she does the Keto diet because it helps with her " all in her head" eczema and other conditions that I believe to be all in her head. I find her to be a total fraud, high end snob even down to what restaurants she dines at; as she say's she likes " Fine Dining" Really?
It is my opinion that she is a total hypochondriac so stop making it about you I don't know you and you are not a youtuber making money off of viewers who have the right to comment. If you like her good for you; but it won't ever stop me from voicing what I think about her or any other youtuber.
@Ria0215 You're doing an awful lot of assuming about me. I'm not taking anything you say personally or making anything about me. That was an analogy. Secondly, I happen to be neutral on Michele Wang.
