Temptalia has swatches for Soleil collection. She also has review for Terra bronzer and lip geelee up if you are interested. 😉
@BeansCat True, but it's also worth looking at her reasoning behind the ratings rather than simply looking at whether it's a high or low score. Temptalia, in particular, scores products based on how they perform compared to how they were advertised or described.
So for example, look at her reviews for the Acqua Metal Shadows which scored C-Ds. The lowest parts of that score were the pigmentation - not because they were poorly pigmented, but because the products were more pigmented than described as they were described as "sheer". That also seems reflected in the lower application scores, as she mentioned it was hard to apply the product so that it was sheer - see the Venus Rising review: "It was actually easier to just apply it at its natural pigmentation level rather than trying to sheer it out." (Temptalia blog, April 10, 2019)
Although, in fairness, in the comment section she also mentioned part of the poor scores were attributed to the creasing during the dry down (although once dry, they didn't crease for her), and being harder to work with (it sounds like that was due to the dry down), and she did mention flaking in her reviews.
Likewise with the lip sheers. Although there certainly doesn't seem to be any redeeming the lip gelees...
Bloomingdales has the glitter coated extreme lipsticks up for preorder, for anyone who is interested. They're called 'lip sparks'. Based on the numbering convention it appears there will likely be at least 9 shades. They look very similar to PMG Blitztrance, Ciate Glitterstorm and the Chantecaille ones that came out with their spring release.
@Mochapj This looks exciting! Thanks! I am currently using Chantecaille Lip Cristal Tourmaline and Carnelian. I cannot feel any glitter on lips. Hope these will be good too.
WOW! 😀 I ONLY wear high-end luxury bands and I am not ashamed of it. 😀 I like Michele Wang because we have similar tones/style and I like her “tasteful” way of doing makeup. YouTube and instagrams are full of “clown-looking” makeup tutorials that I like to watch but not for me. I really do not care that Estée Lauder is reusing the formula. It happens. Michele Wang is a successful professional who likes to review makeup for her followers with similar tastes. I think only a few Youtubers are regularly reviewing luxury beauty. We appreciate it!!!!!
@BeansCat Just saw this thread and I’m living for it. Lol.
Totally agree with you. It is just makeup. Plus we can’t all agree with every review or reviewer. I often disagree with temptalia and she’s a true beauty review pro.
@BeansCat Agreed, it's really just makeup and many people from various backgrounds have different ways of appreciating it. Some have the collector's mentality (found everywhere, not just in beauty) to buy every new release and post about it asap. But the bashing on other aspects like health conditions or the love of fine dining begins to sound like psychological projection.
I think Michele Wang is also a hypochondriac & doesn't recommend the tom ford expressionproof shadows because she herself believes she can't wear them because in her head they will cause milia on her oh so sensitive eyelids! Maybe the ingredients do match that of Mac shadows but if she could wear them without her hypochondriac phobias being present and her believing she would get milia on her eyes she would not be dissing the T.F. ExpressionProof shadows. I don't particularly care for Ms. Wang I find her annoying and a no talent when it comes to applying makeup. To many other really true lovers of makeup and not just the high end like Mel Thompson just to mention one to waste my time with a fraud untalented ms. wang.
I wouldn't call someone a hypochondriac because they know what bothers their skin. I can't use anything with essential oil in it and that does NOT make me a hypochondriac. I like to know when a company pulls a fast one. I don't want to pay a TF price tag for a MAC product. Same thing happened when MAC and Smashbox used the exact same formula for foundation only Smashbox had a higher price tag. Also GA luminous silk shares a formula with L'oreal true match lumi. I choose to buy the GA. The main thing is information. The more you have the more you can make the correct decision for you. I'm a huge TF beauty fan but I'm not stupid enough to pay $110 for a synthetic bronzer brush that used to be natural hair or pay a TF price for basically a MAC paint pot.
@Ria0215 I don’t typically watch MW because we have very different styles but I did watch her video after I’d already purchased my Emotionproof shadows yesterday.
Honestly, I was kind of baffled by her outrage. It seemed like an outsized reaction and fairly naive to think that a conglomerate like Estée Lauder wouldn’t share formulations amongst their brands. Also, it’s my understanding that MAC discontinued the majority of their Paint Pots before these even came out, so it seems to me there is no correlation between most of the Paint Pots and the Emotionproof shades anyway.
that said, having tried them a few times I’m not crazy about the formula. I’m still trying to make it work but thus far I found it to emphasize texture in a way I don’t enjoy.
i do find it slightly disingenuous that MW is happy to post a video and make money off of it but still returning the product she’s used and is bashing. I can’t put a finger on it, but it rubs me the wrong way.
Companies know and plan at least a year out. So Estee Lauder did know they were moving a product from one of their brands to another. Why wouldn't they move it to a higher priced brand. More $ for them. This happens all the time and is not a surprise.
But I like to know what is going on so I can decide for myself. I don't give blind loyalty to any brand.
@MochapjMW had a similar outrage with the TF Extreme shadows that seemed disproportionate to the issue. I was put off that there was no inquiry with her TF SA or an EL rep as part of understanding why the formula looks so similar to a product half the price before making a video flaming the new product. I used to watch MW for the Sonia G brush releases, but I find her brush comparisons so lacking that I've turned to others for those reviews.
@TraceyEB I agree. I recall her reaction to the Extremes as well. I own the extreme range and there are definitely a few shades that totally suck (for shame, TF) but the worst quality ones weren’t any of the ones she had!
i think of it as the difference between someone like MW (who I consider a hobbyist) vs a MUA who would know that glitters aren’t best applied with a brush, or metallics are at their best with specific tools 🤷🏽♀️
I feel she has gotten so caught up in the race to be the first to post things that any critical thinking has gone out the window.
It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a YouTuber review a product and say they would be returning it. Good on Michele for disclosing she would be sending the shadows back.
