Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):

Spoiler

Item #1 - $53.50

Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)

* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x

Total Spent - $162

Base Points Earned - 162

Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)

5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)

5x Item/Brand Earned - 434

Total Points Earned - 1285

Spoiler

Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.

Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.

The product id is the number given to the item in the URL.  So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number.  If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.

It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.

Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar.  It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204  Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.

My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:

(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward.  E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward.  Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase.  Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.

Re: Ulta GWPs

anyone know why the OUAI perfumes and perfumed body kits don't actually count as 'fragrance' (so don't get the 5x pts. on fragrance and doesnt qualify toward blanket), even though the items are clearly in the 'fragrance' section???  I contacted them numerous times, to no avail. 😔

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86

Ulta seems to have 748 different places in their system to categorize items, and they frequently seem to be off in one way or another. Tarte had a fragrance for a while that never worked as "fragrance" for offers even though it showed up under the fragrance category. UD skincare rarely worked for skincare offers even though it was classed as skincare. I'm currently side eyeing some Ulta "makeup tools" that don't work for the Ulta tools b2g1, even though they are under the tools category. Their categorization is, unfortunately, a hot mess for some items.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown  ah, right. lol.  I've had issues before w/some offers, like the body shop perfumes (which I guess they don't even have any more) not counting as perfume...so I figured 'prestige' fragrance certainly would, and I don't recall having issues w/the "X pts. on ALL fragrance" before.  but I figured other ppl must have purchased the same items or noticed the issue, so maybe w/enough complaints they'll fix it.  maybe @Loretta55  is right and the 'new brand' thing is the issue. 🤔

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86

OUAI came to Ulta Jan 1 this year, so I'm not really sure I'd call it "new" anymore lol. But it does seem to be more of an issue with brands that are overwhelmingly one category but come out with something in a different category, like skincare from a makeup brand or fragrance from a haircare brand, etc. It does make me wonder if Ulta gives a brand an overall "most used category", and that somehow overrides specific products counting for other categories sometimes, even if those specific products appear to be classed correctly.

I also know that items can work for at least two different categories at once; for example, Bareminerals Complexion Rescue generally counts for both Makeup AND Skincare gwps, so it appears this is something Ulta CAN fix...I'm just not sure their CS communicates issues to IT properly (if at all...I don't know what sort of ability CS has to actually direct and escalate issues like this, and if they do move issues up to IT, IT doesn't seem to fix them).

I came across a perfume with the wrong product in the picture, a variation Ulta doesn't even carry (and I'm gonna ponder hardcore until I remember which one!). I noticed in the Questions section that a customer had asked about it a YEAR ago. Whoever answered acknowledged the issue and said they'd pass it along. The pic is still wrong a year later, so IT seems to be either completely out of the loop, or completely incompetent...

(ETA: it's Lancome La Vie Est Belle rollerball! The picture is for the La Vie Est Belle En Rose rollerball, but Ulta only carries that variation in large bottles, not the travel size 🙄)

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown  hmm, well that should be enough time to get it right then!! lol.  it was just mentioned that that could be why, and I figured that seemed like the only reasonable explanation lol.

that's true, and I've seen some items that seem like 'perfume', but are under 'body' or something...since these are under perfume AND some of them count towards the blanket, you'd think they'd qualify for the 5x pts. as well.

yes, it's disappointing that they can't seem to fix the issue, or don't care enough to.  you'd think simply being alerted of the issue would make them want to address it, but instead they just give some b.s. explanation and then ignore you lol. 🙄

I don't know why they have to make things so difficult.  like when I went in store yesterday, which I only did bc they had tons of blankets when I was there just a couple of days before, plus some prada perfumes that were 50% off, which werent available online...well when I went to checkout, I gave them the 20% off cpn, and the guy (must have been new) looks at the other lady and says 'is this gonna work?' I then had to stand there explaining why it should work and how it did work online when I tried it, but I came in store bc of items that werent avilable online.  they kept trying to explain why the items were 'excluded', til' finally she says to the guy "oh, did you scan it?" *scans coupon and voila, magic!!* lol.  I don't know why it's so difficult to just SCAN THE COUPON when youre given one lol,rather than trying to explain why it shouldnt work lol.  It's like they have to make everything more difficult, but it seems the only reason they WOULDNT just scan the coupon is cuz they wanna rip ppl off and make them think the coupon doesn't apply. 😡

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86

Ouch, yeah, unfortunately some employees think their job involves deciding whether or not they think a coupon should apply, when their job description is really just "operate the register". Ulta doesn't pay them to mind overall company finances or save the company from giving away too much of a discount, but some act like they're saving their store from imminent financial ruin by trying to come up with excuses why it won't work before even bothering to try it. I usually play it off a bit flippantly with a sweet "can you at least try to scan it? Sometimes it works!"...and it usually does lol.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown  right!! It happened when I first started shopping there, so I'd just leave, go try the coupon online and it worked!!  thats when I just started shopping online lol. 😁  and I only went in there cuz of the blankets (which had apparently sold out the day before) and the prada perfume that wasn't available online....if it wasn't for that I would have just walked out.  I even said "yeah, it helps to scan it" lol, but not sure they heard me under my mask...haha. 😶

they have no problem scanning my gift cards though...lol. 😅

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86 It looks like 6 Ouai products are categorized as fragrance, are they not counting as fragrance?

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ohheyitscindyk no!!  well, the full sized perfumes DO count toward the blanket, but not 5x pts.  and the fragranced body kits don't count toward either.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86 How frustrating!

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ohheyitscindyk totally!! 😩

Re: Ulta GWPs

My thought is that Ouai is known for their hair products @treestar86. Perhaps that could be the reason.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55  true, but the perfumed items are under 'fragrance', so it seems they should qualify.  not sure why no one at ulta can answer that lol.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@treestar86 , Ouai is a new to Ulta brand and they probably are still trying to figure out how to classify it. I do agree with you that they should honor the 5X points.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55  yes, it's weird...also bc I noticed that the perfume DOES count toward the blanket, but not 5x pts...so if it counts toward blanket then its obviously 'fragrance', so why no 5x pts.?? lol.  strange...

but I was more interested in the kits since theyre on sale, but...they dont apply to either.  le sigh. 😔

Re: Ulta GWPs

I do agree that it is weird @treestar86. If you do decide to purchase the fragrance set maybe you could get a point adjustment in the future.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55  yes, I got one yesterday.  its such a pain trying to get the points afterwards, they kept insisting I did get them, but that was for another item and the 250 extra pts. yesterday.  they FINALLY gave me them, but I moreso just wanted them to correct the issue so I can buy more of them, lol.

Re: Ulta GWPs

I understand @treestar86. I wish that I could wear fragrances again. My husband became allergic to most fragrances. I just feel shopped out.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Loretta55  that's a bummer!!  I love perfumes but don't really wear them much since they can give me a headache...I've been trying to buy 'cleaner' ones since they arent as offensive, but theyre usually so much more expensive. 😩

I understand being 'shopped out' lol.  I havent been shopping much due to funds, which is why I jump on any good bonus pt. or gwp offer (and they tend to be on perfume, so I guess thats why I have so many lol)

Re: Ulta GWPs

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all! 🎅🏻🎄

Does anyone have a best guess as to whether Ulta will repeat their 2019 offer of 450 bonus points with order? I have a cart waiting to go and need a little sweetener.
