Let's keep this thread on topic!

Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):

Spoiler

Item #1 - $53.50

Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)

* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x

Total Spent - $162

Base Points Earned - 162

Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)

5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)

5x Item/Brand Earned - 434

Total Points Earned - 1285

Spoiler

Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.

Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.

The product id is the number given to the item in the URL.  So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number.  If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.

It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.

Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar.  It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204  Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.

My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:

(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward.  E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward.  Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase.  Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.

Re: Ulta GWPs

My "husband" always refuses to enter Walmart, so I mostly do my Walmart shopping online. They have free two-day shipping with a $35 purchase, and I usually pick up a cheap beauty product with household essentials. It was a great way to collect drugstore pieces without spending too much. Ulta has(d) that $50 shipping minimum and only sells beauty products.

I figured people were probably refreshing with me to see what's going on and decided to come chat while we wait.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@notcreative

I stopped shopping at WM, gosh, I can't even remember how long now...7-8 years ago? Maybe even more. I can't say I've never set foot in one since then, but it has to be an emergency/no where else is open/someone will die if I don't go scenario lol. Household stuff I'm still either well stocked on (I used to be a heavy drugstore couponer and stocked years worth of most of my basics) or else I find an alternate source. I haven't couponed to any big degree in 3-4 years now, but I'm starting to dabble in CVS a tiny bit here and there mostly because I still have several gc's from my couponing days that I can use instead of putting more cash OOP.

Re: Ulta GWPs

My "husband" has not been inside one for many years either, so I understand how you feel. He loathes Walmart. I am fine with Walmart, but I do prefer Target for in-person shopping. My boys and I went to Target yesterday and were surprised to see after Christmas stuff still available. My Vegas folk would have emptied that out by then. We're not in Kansas anymore. For online shopping, Walmart is faster with shipping and cheaper. That said, I still probably placed more Target orders this year.

Other than groceries, I do the vast majority of my shopping online. I rarely even shop in person at Ulta or Sephora. If I am in the neighborhood, I sometimes enter to swatch things. Find what I like. Look into deals and purchase online with cash back. My local Target sells a lot things for a lot more than they go for online, so it does not make sense to pick them up in person.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@notcreative thanks for the birthday wishes! My account currently states that I'm $450 away from Platinum in 2019, but nothing about Diamond (would have been really nice if they take some of our spending in 2017 over, but I think I'm wishing thinking here). I'm going to wait until later in the morning and then place an order. The $3.50 coupon will work with the Flower Beauty brand just FYI :).

It says my status, Platinum. I keep hitting refresh in the My rewards screen to see if it updates to diamond. Yes, Flower is drugstore, so it will work if you are spending over $15. In that case, it would be cheaper to go through Ulta.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Yup same set up as mine. Hopefully diamond level will load soon, or more detailed information at least.

Not cool, Ulta, not cool

Re: Ulta GWPs

Not sure why I find this amusing @RGbrown

Re: Ulta GWPs

I know, this is so disappointing! I thought maybe they'd put it up at 12 CST instead of EST since that's usually when they update their website, but still nothing 😞

Re: Ulta GWPs

I agree! What was the countdown for?

Re: Ulta GWPs

@Imightneedthis

Info on the revamped rewards program!

Re: Ulta GWPs

I know....but they didn’t deliver any  news so ...why do the countdown. Hype On their part ( sigh)

Re: Ulta GWPs

I assume glitch/programming error on their part, not false hype. That's not usually Ulta's style. 🙂

Re: Ulta GWPs

A new multiplier!

Nice stack if you were lucky enough to get the 5x/anything last week (not me 😥) since that one is good through the 1stScreenshot_20171231-004434.png

There are a few new brand-specific gwp's as well, including one for UDThere are a few new brand-specific gwp's as well, including one for UD

RE: Re: Ulta GWPs

@RGbrown I was just coming to post about this gwp. When you stack it with the 5x for platinum and 5x on ud it’s a tempting offer. Spend $216 to clear 2000 points. I did a mock up basket with $220 and it would be 2035 points. You would be getting $341 worth of product for $216 (assuming you spent $216 and not $220). 125/341 = 36.7% discount. It’s actually better than a 20% coupon but you do have to wait to collect it.

Re: RE: Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarin

And I dunno about you, but I typically try to wait and spend points with a 20%, stretching those points even further. $157 goes down $125.60 after 20% off, making the grand total $216.60 spent for $373 of product, making the overall discount 42.09%

9.25x is always a good deal 😄

Re: Ulta GWPs

I'm not impressed @ClassicallyFab  If this is true I think Ulta is overreaching a bit unfortunately.  Hopefully they don't take things away from the Platinum-level.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ElleElleG

I agree a bit too...in and of itself, an extra .25 and fs at $25 isn't much of an incentive to spend $1000...but really truly we can't tell much until we see what the whole revamp is about. If there are other new levels, I'd almost guess "platinum" is gonna be renamed and benefits may change to make Diamond appear a bit more prestigious than the others.

I've said this before in other places around BIC, so it may be a repeat read (sorry if so!), but the free shipping Sephora offers is likely quite expensive and I would imagine that's why the rest of their rewards program is rather lackluster. I much prefer Ulta's points/gwp's/rewards as a whole, even if it means I have to cough up a bit more to get that FS. So I'm cool with still having to spend $25 even when (yes when, not if 😅 ) I hit Diamond.

And frankly, I've had Sephora slap my hand for "abusing free shipping" with orders that were "too small" (I was stalking Formula X polish earlier this year and placed tons of small orders as they went in and out of stock frequently and quickly), so I'd just as soon have a retailer tell me there's a minimum up front instead of deciding to place arbitrary limits on an "unlimited" service after the fact.

We should have full deets in 23ish hours, assuming they release the page right at midnight central. I'm perhaps overly nervous for what will in reality be a minor change in my life (it's just a rewards program after all...not life or death 😄) but I really just wanna know how this shakes out. 🤞

Re: Ulta GWPs

Well when you put it that way, @RGbrown, you're right. With Sephora I often find myself spending at least $25 despite free shipping because I figure I might as well snag a promo.

That said it's not a good motivator for (my shopping at) Ulta. As a very conscious shopper (not a jab at anyone just my shopping habits) $1000+ at Ulta is unrealistic to me at this stage. Now if they continue to grow and expand their higher end options that could change.  Ultimately time will tell.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ElleElleG

Ulta is definitely looking to become *the* superstore...more and more new brands practically every day. I hope they keep it up and really give their competitor a run for the high-end dollar! 😄
