March has made its way to us, and to celebrate, we’re breaking out the beauty brackets for our second annual Makeup Madness Challenge in the BIC! For the next few weeks, eight popular makeup categories will go head-to-head in a showdown to snag the title of 2022 Community Champion makeup category. It’s up to YOU to vote on the winner … and share some tried-and-true beauty recs along the way (because why not?!). 😉

We kicked off round 1 with a matchup that sparked serious passion last year: lipstick vs. mascara. 🔥 Mascara ended up taking the crown in 2021, but who knows what will happen this year… especially since we’ll be adding new makeup categories to the mix in future rounds. 😏 Stay tuned!

@TeamBIC This is a really hard decision for me. I wear both almost everyday to work and both help me feel more confident. Wearing a mask really brings attention to the eyes and hides the lips. But I am going to have to choose Team Lipstick because I have such a love for it and it truley makes me happy. One of my favourites right now is Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick Secret Salma . For this one since I’m still masking all the time I am going to go with mascara. And my new fav is definitely Wander Beauty Upgraded Lashes Treatment Mascara  it is just that good!!!

It's like you read my mind! 🤣❤️ I like mascaras but 95% of them kill my sensitive eyeballs and/or perform badly. And the few that don't are great but, eh, they're not essential to me, no matter how much eyeshadow I wear that day. I could happily live without mascara. Lipstick is a definite need in all the pretty colors. I've even worn lipstick under KN95s while out and about: doesn't matter if no one else can see it; I know it's there. 

I remember last year's heartbreaking upset (forever salty), but I don't recall if lip balm was a separate category last time...? To me, tinted balms = lipstick. Maybe because I gravitate toward the more pigmented ones, like PAT McGRATH LABS Lip Fetish Sheer Colour Balm Wild Cherry (can't tag the product without a specific shade). Plus, I can always sheer out an opaque lipstick if I just want a hint of color. But if this lipstick category excludes all balms, that still leaves me with hundreds of beloved choices to tag... in addition to PAT McGRATH LABS MatteTrance™ Lipstick , let's give a shoutout to GUERLAIN Rouge G Customizable Satin & Velvet Matte Lipstick (satin) which is so comfy and emollient, it might as well be balm. Also, NARS Audacious Lipstick Charlotte (various shades) is still a fave. Aaaannnd lemme tag one more: Gucci Rouge à Lèvres Mat Matte Lipstick 704 Valentine Verdante is one of my favorite teal lipstick shades, and among the very few that are still available to purchase anywhere. 

*ahem* I vote for lipstick.

I looove love love lipstick, but I will not wear lipstick unless I am also wearing mascara. Mascara goes with everything, include nothing else. If I could only wear one makeup item and that alone - mascara. My favorite, forever and always is CLINIQUE High Impact Volumizing Mascara.

I know it was a major blow to lipstick fans that mascara won last year (but we all agreed masks played in to it), HOWEVER, I am still a mascara girl because I am truly only balms and gloss on the lips. My hands down, tried so many (b/c I am not going to claim having tried them all) favorite is Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara Black
