March has made its way to us, and to celebrate, we’re breaking out the beauty brackets for our second annual Makeup Madness Challenge in the BIC! For the next few weeks, eight popular makeup categories will go head-to-head in a showdown to snag the title of 2022 Community Champion makeup category. It’s up to YOU to vote on the winner … and share some tried-and-true beauty recs along the way (because why not?!). 😉

We kicked off round 1 with a matchup that sparked serious passion last year: lipstick vs. mascara. 🔥 Mascara ended up taking the crown in 2021, but who knows what will happen this year… especially since we’ll be adding new makeup categories to the mix in future rounds. 😏 Stay tuned!

Thank you @Titian06! Fashion Fair Lace is very pretty! 💖 I liked the description on the site for the shade - dusty rose, but swatch on the product page made me nervous - it had that mauve-grey look about it that does not agree with me at all. 😆 I went to swatch it at a nearby Sephora and it is much in keeping with the dusty rose description. Phew. 😮‍💨 

The lipstick has some good pigment to it; that’s 1-1/2 swipes of color.

Thanks for the extra info, @itsfi !  I was originally excited for the lipstick, but the online swatches turned me off.  Yours is the first swatch I've seen and in the color I was most interested in.  This works out great! 💋

Joan Crawford’s or Kate Winslet’s Mildred Pierce?

The Most Grand Dame of Severity, Joan Crawford.  Joan created her face in a unique manner..the extreme brow & lip were brilliant. However, it was not so Fab looking in 1960's movies* she appeared in. @itsfi 

* 'Svengoolie' shows some of those screen gems.

@MvLL The Joan Crawford movie was so much more enjoyable than the Kate Winslet limited series!  Did you watch Feud: Bette and Joan?  I was SO obsessed with it!!!  Vanity Fair had some great articles about it and the actual events.  Have you ever read the book, "Mommie Dearest?"

Sarandon as Bette Davis? hmm.  J.Lange as Joan Crawford makes sense...somewhat resembles Faye Dunaway. (Faye was superb in 1981's Mommie Dearest). I haven't read the book though. Moviestar and Fashion Designer biographies are oft real page-turners!

@MvLL wouldn't it have been priceless if they had Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford again?!  I don't think Ryan Murray would have wanted that, tho.  From what I read, he thought Mommie Dearest was an unfair representation of Joan Crawford.

I agree that Susan Saradon as Bette Davis gave me pause initially.   I enjoyed the series so much that I wasn't too bothered by it.  Who do you think might have been better?  No one springs to mind offhand. But I'm pretty stretched thin right now.

@greeneyedgirl107 Well, it's ideal if the viewer doesn't recognize the actor, as their Portrayal eclipses their 'celebrity aura', and/or m.u.& hair absolutely transforms said actor. Glad to read that you found the series riveting. I can't think of other (living) actors who have Bette Davis eyes.

@TeamBIC  I have to vote for Mascara. I LOVE lipstick, but without mascara, I look crazy 😜. Favorite of all time is Urban Decay Mini Perversion Volumizing Mascara Mini Size Black - 0.13 oz / 3.8 g  I naturally have long lashes (thank you dad 💕) so I need volume and this mascara does the trick.
