CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 40 - (September 30 - October 6) - The "Pop of Colour": Fall Edit Makeup Capsule and/or The Musician Founded or Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - Hey BIC! Fall is in full swing. Show us some pop of fall color, be it lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, etc. Shouting out @missjeanie for the great theme suggestion and @cianni who I think mentioned earlier in the year some fall-worthy red lippies in her collection.
With the American Music Awards airing on October 6, thought it might be a fun way to jazz up the prompts with a capsule consisting of one or more products from beauty brands founded or owned by musicians. See spoiler for non-exhaustive list.
Below are some musician founded or owned makeup brands. This is a non-exhaustive list. Brands with an asterisk (*) next to it are available at Sephora (in store or online, or both). If the founder/owner is not easily identifiable by the brand name, his/her/their name appears in the parens.

*Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
*GXVE by Gwen Stefani
*Haus Labs by Lady Gaga

What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
@itsfi...I know, I was waiting for the right brush to destroy it with 🤣🥲. It's so pretty. Trying to talk myself out of Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Creamy Bronzing Powder 110 sun embrace which is closer to my natural shade.
Wow, that’s very telling @danielledanielle! What brush(es) did you end up using with the Armani bronzer? Ummm, asking for a friend, of course. 😉
Oooouh, so pretty @danielledanielle. And I picked up that Sonia G set too! 😊 Gonna have to find and wash them soon so I can put them to use!
Week 33 - The Day-to-Night (or Date Night): Summer Edition Makeup Capsule and/or The "Outside My Comfort Zone" Makeup Capsule
I combined both of this week's theme for my makeup look, and in keeping with doubling up on things, I'm going to do my Week 33 preview and review here. All are keepers though some will require more work and use for me to become more familiar and comfortable with them.
My summer day-to-night look was based on these beauties, all ones that we've seen many times on this thread. A light hand for day of the bronzer and I touched up with concealer and foundation for an evening or date night look and added some or all of the items pictured below.
Most of these fall in the out of my comfort zone camp, though I'm slowly getting more comfortable with a couple of these beauties. These were included in a night / date night look this week.
Red lips are definitely outside my comfort zone ...
@itsfi Awww I love how attentive you are that you remembered the Fenty Gloss Bomb Heat is a fav of mine 😘 and I’m so glad you’re enjoying it too!! Nowadays, I mostly go for this type of red lip oil / plumper / tint because I find it makes me look more fresh, alive, and dare I say, youthful 🙈😜
I might do a little swatch comparison with some of my thoughts on the diff ones I have!
It’s interesting that you mention the Makeup by Mario brightening pencil for your lower lash line. I haven’t lined my lower waterline in ages, but I might go back to it after reading your post (thank you!). It might be a good combination with the new eye patches I bought yesterday so I won’t have to rely on under-eye concealer so much.
@itsfi I'm going to need to really check that cheeks thread out. Great capsules!
💯 recommend it @Samtian! 👍🏼👍🏼 @danielledanielle has tailored the challenge with the season but the techniques and methods would be great year-round. I’ve bookmarked the thread so I can easily refer back to it. Cheek Challenge Summer 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure
@danielledanielle Do you post pictures, like showing what they look like?
Somewhat @Samtian . I try to include references, like sites, and if I have a way of doing it, photos
@itsfi This looks like such a great capsule to turn from day to night! I am predicting that the Haus concealer may turn into G.O.A.T status for you?! That is too bad the MUBM liner is discontinued. Sometimes that happens with the best products. Have you tried SEPHORA COLLECTION 12 Hour Contour Pencil Eyeliner 54 Coconut ? I am not sure how the formula compares. I have it and it glides on very creamy and is long lasting. How are you liking the Rare highlighter ? Mixing it with the blush makes for a great combo (thanks to @danielledanielle !) Ohh I also got the mini Fenty Heat Gloss. I think that promo may have enabled a purchase!
Thank you @Mellmars1185! I have a feeling the Haus concealer is definitely going to end up being a favorite product, if not a GOAT. The issue I have is that I think there may be multiple products in that category. I'm sure I can find a way to distinguish them so that they can all be GOATs. Much like I have multiple foundations / base products in that camp - Tower 28 for tinted foundation / tinted moisturizer category, Armani LSF for medium coverage, natural to radiant finish, etc.
Lol, I'm telling you, it's the promo gwp's that are most likely to enable a purchase! I've been fairly good on my no-buys and low-buys, and have even been pretty good about not spending when I don't even have a no/low buy going on but my goodness, a promo gwp of a product I've been eying shows up or even of a product I know I like (and want a travel size version of), next thing I know I'm trying to figure out what to get to meet the minimum spend requirement to get the promo gwp. 😂🤣😂
Ahhh, thank you for the rec for a substitute for the eyeliner - I added it to my wishlist so I can remember it. I have been trying to find something that will work as a substitute for the Makeup by Mario, and so far, the ones I've tried haven't been, in the words of Goldilocks, 'just right' - I've tried ones from Sweed Beauty and Dior - the Dior one might grow on me yet; the undertone on the Sweed version is just too pink for me though. The Sephora Collection one looks like it might work - creamy but not too creamy and the shade looks like a good fit.
So much product in this Rare Beauty highlighter!!! I'm liking it - I don't have many highlighters in general (or that's what I'm recalling) but it ranks pretty high. Do you have a go-to liquid highlighter?
@itsfi Ahh I understand about the GOAT 🐐 category vs Favorites. There is so much out there too!
I was inspired after our conversation about GWPs so I created I DID IT FOR THE GWP! 🛍 ! Lol I am sure many of us can relate to this! I think I should go back to my purchase history to find a few examples.
I am glad you are enjoying the Rare liquid highlighter. Yes there is so much in the bottle! I have two and I wonder if I will be able to finish them. I have a gold shade and a more bronzy shade. These are the only ones I have tried so I can't really compare it to other yet. I was more of a powder highlighter gal. But I am open to learning and trying new things. Tbh, I have the Saie Glowy Super Gel Lightweight Dewy Multipurpose Illuminator and I have not given it enough love. Would you say this counts as a liquid highlighter?
@Mellmars1185, I would say the Saie Illuminator most certainly counts as a liquid highlighter. In the early days of this challenge, it was my go to liquid highlighter. I still like it a lot, but I've been digging more into my stash (and also picking up some of the new releases - oop! 😲). I need to add it to the list to use for a future Sleeping Beauties capsule. These days, I probably put the Saie Illuminator into the gel highlighter category, but that's only so that it won't look like I have so many liquid highlighters. 😂
"I was more of a powder highlighter gal. But I am open to learning and trying new things." SAME, mellmars, same. I've gotten more into cheek products this year with this challenge and with some enabling encouragement along the way from other BIC beauties and threads like Cheek Challenge Summer 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure and seeing the lovely looks folks here, like yourself, create and post to Makeup Challenge of the Week 2021/2022/2023/2024 and What are you wearing today Pt2
@itsfi I am curious to know what new releases of liquid highlighter(s) you picked up! Maybe 2024 is a big year for cheek product new releases? I have picked up many this year too. Off topic but the new Hourglass Liquid Blushes have caught my eye.
@Mellmars1185, oooouh, the new Hourglass blushes! I smile every time I see the new Hourglass blushes on display - they're all so cute lined up together. They look like they would make the perfect set - hmmm ... maybe a set of mini's for the holidays??? 😍
Oh yes, I feel like cheeks and tinted lip balms have been having some major moments this year. I'm very behind on getting to the products I picked up earlier in the year; hoping to find some more time soon. The good news is that I have been good, okay, fairly good, about not picking up too many more things in the meantime. 😅 I picked up a few more liquid highlighters this year, or, they're probably more new-to-me than new as in trending new - a couple of the Dior ones, a Rare Beauty mini (even that has a lot of product in it), Pai, Vieve.
@itsfi Oh yes they would make a nice holiday set. Plus if they do I am sure many of us would love to try it. So it is like a win win situation lol.
I think I am in the same category as you in shopping....maybe fair I would say. I tried but it is so hard for me to resist certain sales or new releases. One might think from the outside that I am doing well for my no/low buy. But the truth is I am just not posting them on the haul threads 🫠
Hahahaha @Mellmars1185! I am LOVING the “but the truth is I am just not posting them on the hauls thread.” 😂🤣😂 If I didn’t have a pile of unopened boxes in one corner of the living room, I’d think my subconscious was doing the same thing. I’m so behind on unboxing. But, to be fair, I’m also not buying as often or as much as I did before. Not that I don’t get distracted by all the pretty releases, but I’m less inclined to buy the next releases as soon as it comes out just to have it. Is there a product category or brand that you find harder to resist?
@itsfi Hehe I am behind on unboxing too. Maybe that is another reason to slow down on the spending. I watch a YouTuber that enables me to make lots of purchases. Lip oils/lipsticks, lipliner, new Foundations/concealers are hard for me to resist. I don't lean towards a particular brand. I like buying things that others recommend. I like everything lol
Oh, it sounds like the YT’er is doing his/her job very well then @Mellmars1185. I’m hoping to get all my unboxings done in the next couple of weeks but that’s a pretty aggressive schedule. We shall see. Much of it is not beauty related; not sure if it’ll make the process go more quickly though.
