CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 38 - (September 16 - 22) - The LatinX Founded / Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - LatinX Heritage Month is celebrated annually in the US from September 15 to October 15. As one way to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the beauty industry, let's put together a capsule that includes one or more products from a LatinX owned or founded beauty brand. See spoiler below for a non-exhaustive list.
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.
Multiple themes this week. You know the drill with the first prompt - curate a capsule with one or more beauty products that you want to compare against each other in a battle to see which reigns supreme; or that is a throw back to a different era (80's makeup, anyone? 90s? 2000s?, etc. ). OR, throw back to a past makeup capsule theme in a Do Over / Take 2. OR, put some products on the chopping block to see if they're keepers in your stash or if it's time to throw them out.

FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. ๐คฃ It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
Week 22 - Love is Love. (I think I finally got one right, yusss)
I included Danessa and Natasha because I really feel like using MyDream palette, and Danessa's screams color, which is perfect for this month

You have so many great items in your capsule @danielledanielle, I could make future shopping list just by being inspired from everything I read through the capsules and posts everyone is sharing. ๐ ๐๏ธ
I can see this being a fun to use selection, ND's My Dream specifically is so beautiful to wear. ๐ Do you own her mini dream?
@CynthieLu . Thanks ๐ฅฐ
Natasha Denona My Dream Eyeshadow Palette IMO is one of her best palettes. I know Natasha Denona Glam Eyeshadow Palette and Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Eyeshadow Palette are heavies/favorites as far as everyday wear, but My Dream can do that and then some ๐๐ฝ
On the flipside, I don't own mini dream or mini starlette. It's not something I think that would work on me.. It's pretty muted, so I would have to use other shadows to get it to show up on my skin tone. I love ND, as you know, but there's a few palettes I've passed on for similar reasons.
I think your feelings on Starlette I've heard mirrored other places as well. Colors that don't work for everyone and don't pop out stand out as special. I was curious about mini Dream to see if anyone thought it was worth it, especially if you have the full-size already. I appreciate you weighing in on it ๐ @danielledanielle
So many goodies in your capsule @danielledanielle! Love that NARS eyeshadow primer ๐ - I am curious about the one Melt will be releasing (or maybe it's already come out?) but I have 3 eyeshadow primers open and have no business picking up another one for a while.
Ahhh, the ND powder foundation. That's on my list, but I probably won't get close to picking it up until the fall sale event.
The ND powder foundation is pretty good @itsfi . The annoying thing about it is finding it in store. And kickback with a brush is a little much, but it's got that melty into skin feel.
Yes at the melt primers! I wish Nars would bring back theirs NARS Pro-Primeโข Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Dark , so I could keep one open at a time, too ๐คฃ I have two primers open; I like a skin tone one for liner days only. (Ok, technically three if we countPAT McGRATH LABS IntensifEYES Artistry Wand .)
Maybe we donโt count the PML artistry wand as a primer @danielledanielle? ๐
oh, I do like that ND Dream bag; I havenโt tried seeing how much I can squeeze in there but it holds a good amount of product for me.
Forgive my laziness. I finally get it together and join the lovely @itsfi challenge. These will be all the products I will use for the upcoming week starting today. I need to work on panning most of these. I have these for awhile except the HG powder which is brand new product. Gotta spoil myself a little by throwing one new thing. All are well loved, trusted product to create a simple look that lasts the whole day (except the lipstick will need to be reapplied every couple hrs or so) ๐
The look
PS Tom Ford and Marc Jacob are qualified for the theme right @itsfi ๐
@blackkitty2014 Beautiful look!! I think I'm going to need to take a page out of your book and do a solid week of project pan products in my capsule. I really do love your TF palette, did they release one this year? I don't recall seeing summer products, but maybe I'm selectively forgetting for the sake of my wallet!
Thx you @missjeanie . TF started this kind of palette about 10 yrs back and couple years ago they release another 4. I love the first 2 the most. This one is one of the first 2 so itโs old. But I will definitely miss it once itโs gone.
WELCOME @blackkitty2014 ! Gorgeous!
MJ definitely, I included a fineliner in mine and I want to include the luminizers...BUT I CAN'T FIND THEM ATM ๐ถ, I will live vicariously through your picks
Ahhhh @blackkitty2014, stunning!!! You, your makeup look, your capsule choices!! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Gorgeous! Oh my goodness, your hair!!! ๐ It looks so healthy - beautifully long and lush! Sure, sure, this is the makeup capsule challenge, but what's your hair care routine?
P.S. Absolutely! TF and MJ are spot on for this week's prompt. (but, frankly, love seeing capsules so I feel like I'd be up for the extra challenge of finding a way to weave the week's theme into a capsule, ha!). Always so inspiring to see your use of your beauties - that Tom Ford palette and oh, that Marc Jacobs bronzer โฃ๏ธ He had some amazing products. Not that I need more products but do you think he'll ever do another makeup line?
P.P.S. Your photo is reminding me that I have that Chanel Le Blanc ... somewhere. At least it's the Le Blanc I think I have... ๐ค
The discontinued of Marc Jacob beauty is puzzled me. His beauty line was very well received. But it could be that whatever line that earns the least profit got pulled. I hope one day MJ brings his beauty line back. Iโm 99.99% cent sure you have the same Chanel Le Blanc. It was a while back. I feel bad just used it couple times eventhough it is a great product. So I decide to bring it in my Pan It Challenge. Will see if I can pan the whole thing by end of years using it as primer @itsfi ๐ The week after will be tough for me. Iโm sure I can dig out something that can used for both lips and cheek ๐ PS Iโm cheap. I donโt use fancy products for hair just regular Pantene from Costco ๐๐คฃ but I wash my hair almost everyday eventhough ppl say itโs bad to do so. Speaking of hair, I need to pan those fancy hair products from Sephora gratis too.
If the Chanel is from a while back, I'm pretty sure I have it too @blackkitty2014! ๐ I've been a little more ... strategic (?), practical maybe, when it comes to the Chanel releases over the last 12-18 months. It helps that there's been quite a few cheek products which are usually easier for me to pass on and since I keep reminding myself that I'm still working on ND Biba 4.5 years later, it makes it a smidge easier to pass on the eyeshadow quads. Foundations and lips though, especially from Chanel, are more tempting for me.
If you carry the Chanel Le Blanc into next week's capsule, you've hit the repurposed (and possibly multi-tasker) mark - skincare / illuminating product as makeup primer. DONE! All you need is one product in your capsule to fit the theme. If you want to do more, go for it. But just the one is fine. Cream blush for lips and cheeks. Bronzer for bronzer and eyeshadow. Concealer for foundation.
Ahhhh, I used to wash my hair everyday ... and with Pantene too! Using those gratis beauties can be a slippery slope - that's how I started down the fancy hair care path ๐ My hair has no complaints or regrets. My wallet though? Entirely different story. ha!
Oh good call @itsfi . I will carry that Le Blanc over and will think of something else for next week too ๐
@itsfi, dare I say devastatingly delightful declutter! That's a lot and you have the wherewithal to actually take a pic before you say goodbye.
*squee @danielledanielle - "devastatingly delightful declutter!" My word nerd self is gleefully giddy at that! ๐
lol, the pic is for accountability. So I have a visual reminder of what I passed on and what I will hopefully not pick up again without good reason (e.g., reformulation that has been noted as addressing whatever the reason was that I decluttered it).
@itsfi I was at the edge of my seat waiting for the main event and it kept me hanging till the end. In true main event fashion! I am so surprised that U Beauty won the battle. But not the ๐ I mean it is hard to beat Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation 30 PCH itโs a true ๐.
one thing I was surprised by was that Nudestix didnโt preform well. I feel like they might have been one of the first brands that started the multi stick. So I am disappointed it didnโt preform well.
And yay for the sparkles winning. I think a clear with sparkles is always the best option. It just adds that extra bit!! Yay for this showdown of makeup!! It was even better than the March Madness makeup!!
@ather, I won't say it will never happen, but it would take a lot, and I mean, A LOT!!! for Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation to lose its ๐ GOAT status. The K18 dry shampoo did it to the amika Perk Up dry shampoo and that actually had me stunned, so I won't say never, but it's unlikely SunnyDays will be bested as my go to skin tint. โค๏ธ
A few notes about the skin tint battle, which I probaby should have included in the original post:
