2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

updated 12/31/19* The 2020 Thread is here 2020 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Hey all!  Welcome to Year 5 of the No/Low Buy thread 😲

Since 2019 is LITERALLY around the corner so I figured it was time to get this thread started.  The 2018 thread can be located here: https://community.sephora.com/t5/Beauty-Confidential/2018-THE-NO-BUY-LOW-BUY-BUDGET-BUY-ACCOUNTABILI...

For reference here's the purpose of this thread (from lnum):

This thread is a support system for all of us who are trying to maintain a budget and keep our beauty spending limited. Post here when you have a weak moment, post here to hold yourself accountable, post here when you just need someone to talk to, post here when you have advice for all of us, and post here when you make mistakes but also make gains! Many of us post here to keep track of our monthly purchases. Anything you need to say, we are all here for each other. There's no judgement here.

Feel free to share your goals, items that tempt you, missteps (we don't believe in failures), and any successes.  Above all else, encourage and support one another.

Welcome to Year 3!

My motto for this thread is that I strongly believe, even on a budget, you can have the things you want that make you happy without feeling like you're limiting yourself.

I am so excited to spend another year with you all. If it wasn't for the first two years of this thread, I would never have been able to cut down my beauty spending. My goal for this year is to maintain low spending on beauty, and cut down my clothing purchases. I will be funneling that money into traveling, which is what I have done in the past and it's a great goal that truly motivates me.

I'm still so proud of everyone for making it through 2015 and 2016, limiting ourselves in the beauty product area in order to improve our lives in other areas. We all did great and here's to another year of learning and saving!

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thank you @Nickelliebear1 Sunday was a low day but today feels better. Not normal, but I'll take an improvement as a positive.

RE: Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Oh @sprocketta I’m so sorry. Big big hugs. You and I have chatted privately about some of this so I totally understand what happened with you and I’ve been there myself. Try not to be too hard on yourself. Lots of love. Keh

Re: RE: Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thank you my dear @KehDee It really helps knowing there are other folks out there who understand.  I appreciate immensely the support.

Re: RE: Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thanks @KehDee you know what's it like. I don't feel as down about it now. Today was a better day and hopefully tomorrow will be as well.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

I'm so sorry you are dealing with the snowball effect of that decision.  Of all the times for you to get a parking ticket!  I feel for you. @sprocketta

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Sorry to hear about your troubles @sprocketta. I think we all do regrettable things - I certainly have (parking and traffic tickets twice in my life!).  Hope it’s not terribly painful - for me, just need to pare down my discretionary spending even more - and cut yourself some slack.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thanks @newcarlee I'm feeling a bit better about it today and hoping for continued improvement.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

I'm so sorry about this experience @sprocketta. I am confident you will be able to buy it next month. We are here to help.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thanks @ShortErica I also need to make a couple skincare purchases. I don't feel guilty about those for the most part. I've expanded my skincare routine and I'm really enjoying it.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

That's awesome @sprocketta. Finding a good routine and treating your skin well is so important. 🙂

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

@ShortErica I keep telling myself I should do more masks and a friend gave me a bunch, but it's just not my thing. I feel like you guys have so much fun on the masking thread that I wish I wasn't missing it. Maybe I should lurk over there a bit more. Not like I have anything to add to the discussion.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

I've gone a bit crazy over there and if it's not your thing, I won't push you. I simply would say to try to treat your skin once a month as a starting goal whether that be using a mask or maybe a serum that has been on the back burner @sprocketta. Just a little pampering to give you some "me" time. And definitely lurk. Many in the group (not me) are very knowledgeable on ingredients. I learn random non-mask and non-skincare things on the thread too.

RE: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

I haven’t bought anything in a couple of weeks, which is huge for me lately!

Re: RE: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Great job @KehDee!

RE: Re: RE: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Thanks girl!

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

It’s the first day of August. I went to my bank and got a plan to get out of debt. So glad I did that because it gave me the strength to resist the best sale of the year at Ulta. I don’t need anything but 50% off clearance plus a 5 off 10 would normally sends me running to the store.

RE: Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

This is great!! Best of luck with your new plan!

Thats awesome!! Its probably been a hard end for everyone...

Thats awesome!! Its probably been a hard end for everyone this July with National Julystick day deals going on💄. I been trying to closet clean with a minimalist mindset. Might I suggest kijiji or poshmark to earn some extra cash?

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Good luck with your plan, @howconnie.  Getting out of debt will feel fantastic.

Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

My July no buy was unsuccessful, and I ended up spending a lot of money for my income. Well I’ll keep trying until I’m successful.

RE: Re: 2019 - THE NO-BUY, LOW-BUY, BUDGET-BUY ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT THREAD

Don’t beat yourself up. Every day is a new day to start over 💕
