@tajin It’s false. In an old (1960s, if I recall correctly) clinical study, niacinamide was combined with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) under very high heat; this created niacin, an ingredient that can irritate the heck outta skin. I don’t remember the exact temperature, but I know it was much higher than typical room temp and hot humid summer temp; much hotter than the 90-120ºF my city gets in July. You’d need to do your skincare routine while sitting in an active kiln or sticking your head in a heated oven to replicate that niacin creation. And thank goodness none of us ever do that. 😅 Niacinamide plays nice with pretty much any skincare ingredient, including vitamin C. But some people’s skin can’t tolerate niacinamide strength beyond 5% or 10% in skincare products. Also, some folks’ skin won’t tolerate ascorbic acid at any strength, but might tolerate a different form of vitamin C. If you’re not sure your skin falls into either of those camps, patch test a vitamin C and niacinamide product before using them on your entire face—and maybe start off with a 5% niacinamide product. And don’t be lured by high strength vitamin C serums right off the bat: 10-15% ascorbic acid is plenty effective for many people. There are also oil soluble forms of vitamin C that may penetrate skin better than ascorbic acid. (There’s some debate on whether ascorbic acid actually gets deep enough into skin to boost collagen.)
