Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

My local Ulta store informed me that their return policy changed, and they won't be able to accept returns after 60 days (I was just wanting a store credit). I read through the updated returns, and I did not interpret it that way. I'm curious what @RGbrown and @WinglessOne have to say - you're both awesome at understanding return policies! Thanks!
@RGbrown @WinglessOne I asked Ulta, and here's what they said;
A generic non-prestige 20% off coupon just popped up. Code 978833, expires 10/26. I guess, thanks Ulta? 🤷♀️

New mystery GWP with $50 cc spend
This week’s Dash to Beauty
Hi, can someone share the code for YSL libre absolu planting? Thanks!
While we're on the subject of points - Ulta randomly removed 360 points in September. My previous tally was correct so it wasn't an adjustment. CS said they'd fix it. They haven't.
Also I made a store return a week ago and my almost 2,000 points hasn't been refunded. I've tried texting and calling CS and am just told to wait.
Does anyone know how best to get these issues fixed?
Check your emails for unique codes for 10/50 and 20/100 prestige coupons! Valid through the 19th
There is also a $10 off no minimum variation, most likely on accounts you don’t shop with
Having trouble editing my previous post for some reason so I'll just make a new one

Ulta dot com/community/groups
It's only on the site for now, not accessible via app. Super tiny so far, but I expect it'll grow!
@RGbrown I just saw that email and thought “it’s about time!” But also, “hmm, can Ulta really keep their forum (eh, whichever app/software it runs on) from crashing and glitching?” 😂 This oughtta be interesting!
Considering Ulta can't even calculate points lately...you know, the one thing they're known for and have historically been really good about but they've mucked about with it recently and flubbed it up royally, I have little faith in their ability to run new features, including a whole dang chat board 🙄😂
There's really not much to see over there yet either...groups for skincare, makeup, hair, hauls, and Ulta news. No nails, no OT, no Sephora (lolol, who's got the will to start that one and keep it up to date with all their promos? 😂). It's something I'll check out from time to time, and I'll be curious to see how it grows, but I'm barely checking out BIC these days, so goodness knows my drive to participate heavily in another beauty forum is low these days.
@RGbrown I was wondering what the heck happened to my points. I have a recent mystery adjustment on my history log and keep forgetting to ask customer service why they subtracted those points. I mean, I also haven’t spent time trying to do Ulta math on my own to figure it out yet. Too much brain fog for that lately. But if Ulta’s messed up their point calculation, that might explain it. 🤦♀️
About the community: my inner UX designer can’t stop picking out design and usability flaws. It’s a brand new thing for Ulta, I get that. But c’mon guys, you can’t even add a badge (or symbol, or whatever) beside your employees’ usernames for transparency/disclosure’s sake? Sheesh… It’ll be interesting to see how that community evolves, both in usability design and overall feel/atmosphere. I’ll be shocked if a non-Ulta thread ever survives there. 🤣
I don't know exactly when it started or ended, but mid to late September was a hotbed of points errors for Ulta...they were doubling and tripling items for points calculations and giving folks entirely too many. I placed an order of 10 foot masks, 1 Naturium vitamin C, 1 Tree Hut shave oil and 2 Tree Hut lip balms, but got points for 20 foot masks, 3 vitamin C's, 3 shave oils and 6 lip balms 😂😂😂 I also got over $200 counted on my tally towards diamond instead of $48 lolololol On 9/28, they took back my extra points, and at some point a few days later, my diamond tally was corrected as well.
Lots of folks on reddit say that Ulta took too many points away from them...but I've also corrected so many folks on how to calculate points in the first place that I kinda give most of them a little side eye. I certainly don't assume Ulta was perfect with every single account (Ulta is a hot mess for sure), but I also don't think the errors are as widespread as some want to believe they are.
Take a look at any orders you placed in Sept and see if the quantities on your points tally are higher than what you actually ordered...if so, that's likely the source of the adjustment. I'd give pretty decent odds that your adjustment is actually right, but if you want or need help double checking before contacting Ulta, I'd be happy to go over it for you (and that goes for anyone here as well!). Considering CS has no clue how to calculate points half the time, contacting them without an idea of what may be missing sounds like a not fun thing to do. On the flip side, I've seen some folks baffle CS with complete BS and come out with way more points than they were actually owed because CS doesn't know any better 🙄
I've poked around the Ulta community a little, and there doesn't seem to a main feed. You have to add groups to your profile, and then you get your own little personal feed...but the posts don't seem to show up chronologically. It makes me wonder about the viability of any type of long running mega-thread...would an old thread even bubble back up to the top with a new post like it does here at BIC, or would priority be given to newer threads (a la Reddit sorted by "hot"), making the site more of a clearinghouse for one-off questions instead of true community conversations? I don't see an option to change the view either; at least reddit gives options (I always sort by new because I want to see everything posted in the subreddits I follow).
I was wondering about mods too...are they going to have clearly identified Ulta folks on the board, or just the generic ultabeauty account? Will be curious to see how that shapes up.
@RGbrown Yeah, I figured Ulta subtracted some of my points because they messed up (gave me too many) at some point. I used to always check to see how many points each of my orders actually get, but this year’s been unkind to my health and I’ve lacked the mental energy to do that. So I just assumed Ulta was trying to correct a points overage, especially since the deduction’s under 100. I’m not about to pick through my points ledger to figure out where they originally messed up though. 😅 Not this month, anyway. Seriously, too much brain fog for that; I have to reserve any mental clarity for other things nowadays. Eh, maybe I’ll try figuring it out later this year when I’ll hopefully be doing/feeling better.
I have a running list of usability issues with Ulta’s community. (No matter how low my brain battery is, my UX design programming can’t be stopped. Not even if I want it to. 😂) You mentioned a few of the things I also noticed. There are definitely Ulta employees in the mix, which you won’t know unless you look at their user profiles—and that’s only if they state their employee status in their profiles. (One of them who’s posting a lot is an “eComm Strategy” Ulta employee. She doesn’t disclose that in any of her posts where she recommends products and whatnot. And no one would know that about her unless they happened to check her profile page. 🙄) And nope, the feed can’t be sorted in any way (date, A-Z, whatever) and I can’t figure out how the heck it’s organized, if at all. It’s as obnoxiously random as BIC’s bookmarked threads feed (which still hasn’t been fixed). I commented on someone’s thread/question over there, just to see how things work. There’s no way to see all comments I’ve made, and I doubt I’d get notified of a reply since my comment doesn’t show up in my feed under Profile; apparently that’s only going to show threads I make, I guess. I could go on and on.
BIC runs on Lithium—or I guess I should say Khoros, since Lithium and another company merged a few years ago. Once upon a time, I was an admin for a different large Lithium forum and it was quite a robust app, plus it was very frontend user friendly. I’ve often assumed most of BIC’s bugs from 2019 onward were due to a Lithium-to-Khoros software transfer, and I keep calling it “Lithium” because I’m old and stuck in my ways dang it. 🙃 Anyway, Ulta’s definitely not using Khoros. Not sure what they are using, but if their community grows, they’ll probably need to switch to a better app/software/platform. I mean, unless they wanna keep their “community” at tip board/quick question status.
@RGbrown Thank you for the Ulta “BIC” forum breakdown! I’ll wait until you sign off on its usability for meaningful community conversations, before spending too much time poking around. 😂 Yes, you are that esteemed around here. 🧡
Side note, my points appear to be okay. A small negative adjustment of points previously erroneously credited for a re-shipment of a new-not-new item, totally cool with that. I did have to wait a bit (and follow up a bit) on them awarding appropriate points for my bigger 10x day purchase (smaller ones tracked fine), but no other mysteries.
Side side note, did anybody bite on that $180 Diamond bag? Anybody planning to? If so, how did you justify a cart that large without a 20% off coupon? 🤔
