March has made its way to us, and to celebrate, we’re breaking out the beauty brackets for our second annual Makeup Madness Challenge in the BIC! For the next few weeks, eight popular makeup categories will go head-to-head in a showdown to snag the title of 2022 Community Champion makeup category. It’s up to YOU to vote on the winner … and share some tried-and-true beauty recs along the way (because why not?!). 😉
We kicked off round 1 with a matchup that sparked serious passion last year: lipstick vs. mascara. 🔥 Mascara ended up taking the crown in 2021, but who knows what will happen this year… especially since we’ll be adding new makeup categories to the mix in future rounds. 😏 Stay tuned!
TO VOTE, hit the reply button below and tag a product you love that represents the category you’re voting for. For example, the lovely lipstick lover @WinglessOne might reply with “Lipstick! PAT McGRATH LABS MatteTrance™ Lipstick” 🥰💄
Let the games begin! Each new round of voting starts Fridays, and ends the following Thursday at 2pm PT:
Click the “Reply” button below and vote for your favorite product (lipstick or foundation!), use the “#” sign to tag a specific one you love, then check back for the results and the next round of voting!
UPDATE 4/22/21: Thank you to everyone who participated in Makeup Madness 2022! This year's champion is 💄lipstick💋 - no pouting for our fellow lip lovers! Here were Community members' top-tagged lipsticks from your votes throughout the challenge:
We're also showing love to the most-tagged products in all the Makeup Madness categories this year - check them out here:
Primer all the way!
I'm with @Samtian on this one. Anyone who knows me, knows I've asked Benefit Cosmetics to put that Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Lite Water-Based Pore Primer 0.75 oz/ 22 mL in a barrel and sell it to me! It's like having a filter IRL.
I'm going with primer because setting powder alone is not going to make my eye makeup stay put in the middle of a Texas summer! My go-to is the classic Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Anti-Aging Standard Size - 0.33 oz/ 10 mL
@txcatx Woohoo primer! I agree that a strong base is important
Go team primer!
@TeamBIC is not making these Makeup Madness brackets easy. 😆
I have combination skin - oily to very oily on my lower T-zone and dry on my cheeks. This time of the year, I also lean dry on my forehead. My face is a perfectly complicated canvas for both primer and setting powder to work their magic, so this was a hard choice. I did a couple of wear tests this past week @GeorginaBT, and based on those results and that my sunscreen can usually do a fairly decent job as a primer for me, I'm going with SETTING POWDER this round.
Setting powders that I'm currently reaching for these days are:
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder
Hourglass Mini Veil™ Translucent Setting Powder - Talc Free Mini Size Translucent - .07 oz
Not pictured: LYS Beauty Triple Fix Setting Powder Resilience - I have the translucent (Resilience) shade but there are 5 other shades in the range
Oooh, veryyy good point about double-tasking with sunscreen as primer @itsfi. Everyone recommends this Charlotte Tilbury setting powder - I need to give it a try! Glad you like it. 😊
Definitely give the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder a try @GeorginaBT! I love it paired with the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Waterproof Setting Spray 3.3 oz / 100 ml! ♥️ The combo keeps my face in place. 😆
Setting Powder! Primer may blur pores but I like what powder does to prevent foundation smearing on my cell phone 😁. Add a little SPF and setting powder is doing double duty. This helps blur my pores. I waited 6 months to try it as it was constantly OOS. I'm glad I finally have it.
@Buootiful Great choice! This is a multitasking product! 👏👏👏
While I am loving the Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas: Featherweight Protective Primer 1.0 oz / 30 mL my vote has to go to SETTING POWDER and the tried and true Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder - Honey Honey
have to go with setting powder— this is one of my favorites!
Hourglass Veil™ Translucent Setting Powder - Talc Free Translucent
Primer lovers let's vote!!
This is a tough one. I think I'll go with powder though and I'll stick with an OG favorite--- bareMinerals Mini Mineral Veil Original
Setting powder. I don't wear foundation, so I find primer pretty useless. But I do use concealer on my under-eyes and any blemishes/redness on my face, so I like to set the concealer afterwards.
Had to think about this one for a minute. I vote primer. It's a necessity for me. I sometimes wear concealer sheered out, but I always start with a primer. On no makeup days, I'll sometimes wear a mattifying primer solo. CoverFx makes my favorite one, The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer 1 oz/ 30 mL is also another goodie.
I do think setting powder is awesome though, but I've always been a powder + setting spray gal. If this was between setting spray/primer/setting primer, I don't think I could pick 🤯
@TeamBIC .... Did someone verify week 1's results???? lol
I'm gonna have to go Setting Powder for this one. MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Matte Setting Powder has been a re-purchase several times. I mayyyyybe stocked up when I saw that the previous version was being discontinued. I think I've now used all the pressed versions and only have loose left. Was the first time I saw actual real blurring power.
EDIT: Oops - double post!
@missjeanie Week 1 was so close!! I still can't decide which category is getting my vote this week... 😅
Ohhhhh @GeorginaBT Will we get to see how close the votes were at the end?
@missjeanie. Lipstick won the first round. Was that your choice?
