@MochapjI had no idea that MAC paint pots were being discontinued or that TF's cream shadows were being phased out. (or some cream shadows) were being discontinued. I wouldn't have considered a MAC formula being adopted by TF, maybe by Smashbox. I've been more aware of some eyeshadow palette design similarities between Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder brands, and Wayne Goss once found a MAC and Smashbox foundation with the same ingredients but sold at different price points.
@TraceyEB I’m not sure when it happened as I don’t follow MAC updates at all but they used to have a very large, colourful range of paint pots. At some point they were rebranded as Pro Wear Paint Pots (I believe that’s the specific name) and currently all they sell are a handful of neutrals; all others were DC.
TBH I’m not surprised TF decided to get in on the action. I know people are outraged because of the price disparity but I think of how positively talked up Paint Pots have been by people on YT etc for years and it starts to make sense why the TF brand would want to get in on that popularity from their customer base as well 🤷🏽♀️
Ugh, that stinks...textured eyelids...that would be me!
Thx @Mochapj . I like the look of Casino more and more. I need to hunt it down 😉
@blackkitty2014Casino was the shade that I had my eye on, too.
@TraceyEB If it is a dupe of Mac paint pot then I will skip. I didn’t like the texture of Mac paint pot then so I dont think I would like it now 😓
@blackkitty2014 I’ve never tried a paint pot so I can’t comment on that but I thought I should share this. I don’t think this formulation is friendly for those of us who are 20+ - unless you only want to apply them with fingers to help melt the colour on/minimize their setting into a texture. I’m 38 and my lids aren’t terribly wrinkly on their own but this product emphasizes every single line 😳
Thanks @ms123456 - unfortunately I haven’t had much success with these, though I’ve tried them now around 5 times.
as shown above, finger application creates the least texture, but it’s also the application that provides the softest colour/impact.
I generally can’t get away without wearing primer and unfortunately that’s no different here. They may be waterproof but are no match for my primerless eyelids. using primer ends up negatively emphasizing texture though so it’s a real no win situation. unfortunately even the combo of primer with finger application doesn’t prevent creasing/melting either, though it does improve colour impact slightly.
I’m still working on finding a combo that works for me but as yet I haven’t found it.
@Mochapj Thanks for the great post! In 10 years time, you'll rock the "over primer" look with pride! 🙂 I have two paint pots, one used as a base (it has a flat look but nicely covers any eyelid redness without feeling dry), and the other a vibrant shade used to boost another cream or shimmer shadow. The latter is very pretty but so emollient that it can look patchy if worn over a primer. The bottom line for me is that I never reach for these shadows and have not sought out more.
@Mochapj Love love your post so much. Thx you for posting. I bought 1 paint pot long long ago and I didn’t like the texture or how it applied. Too bad the color was gorgeous. I remember having it laying around unused until it dried up and I just tossed it.
@BeansCat I am narrowing down to TF quads Body Heat and Suspicion, CT Dreamgasm quad for now. I know they are all so pretty! Is it me or the names are getting weirder by the minute! 🤩
@makeupjunky8Thanks for posting the Tone Up swatches. I think they are both too orange-based for me, even as an illuminator. Might you try it?
@TraceyEB Hi! I have tried both colors on my face. Pink Glow has a pinky-peach base and since it's a sheer product it will work for light & light medium skin tones. When Peach Glow dries down it has a strong orange base so it will work best for medium/medium tan skin tones. There's also a shade called Rose Glow that will work for fair skins but it's sold out everywhere right now 😔
@makeupjunky8Thanks so much for your insight and experience with the Tone Up shades. Do you use them as an illuminator? The only place I saw Rose Glow was on back order at Neimans online. Please let us know how you find it when it's back in stock.
@TraceyEB yes the "tone up" shades are illuminators and the "glow up" shades are foundation.
