I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

THE FIT (excuse the awkward pose, I was trying to get the ring in the picture and this is the only one that wasn't blurry):

This look is essentially an homage to the versatility and timelessness of St. John's clothing and me trying on a St. John Jacket I got in the mail today that was marked down over $1,3000 below what it retailed for (still an investment piece for me and a splurge). For those not familiar with St. John,  as one history of fashion houses quoted a retailer, "For ladies who lunch, a St. John knit is almost like a uniform, a status symbol," which neatly described the company's typical retail customer and conveyed the essence of the clothes' success: generations of women made the inclusion of a St. John knit in their wardrobe a must." The line was started in the early 60's by former model Marie St. John who liked to knit and began making custom items for friends before her husband joined her in going into larger production. Classic elements of St. John's include primary colors, nods to Chanel, and their tweed slub jackets and knitwear. They're easy to dress down as I did here or dress up pairing the lines matching shift dresses and skirts. I paired mine with L'agence Margot jeans (great for petites) and Vince square-toe wedge booties. 

THE FAB:

As you can see the color of the jacket has much more bronze and gold up close than when photographed. I chose a large ring I got I don't know where for about $20. And think it and Nemat's White Musk - which I found in a thrift store/boutique and is one of the best white musks I've smelled never mind for only $11 - suits the high/low look I prefer and versatility of St. John's jackets. Women who wear St. John's spend money but only on pieces they can wear for decades. On the one hand, they're a status symbol. On the other, they're for women who would find it tacky to wear an obvious Chanel piece however similar in style the brands may be.

LIPS: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Gloss Luminizer Fenty Glow 

NEW FAVORITE: MUA nude eye pencil - defines and cleans up brows, can be used as a lipliner to correct or highlight - love it.

Oooh, I love the run through @PDXXXX .  This coat is everything!  It looks like a houndstooth from far away, and then so intricate close up.

Also, makeup 👍🏽👍🏽 I feel like all of those are "new" classics

Thank you so much @itsfi ! For some reason I get an extra kick out of these purchases when I find them with a deep cut on sale or Poshed or thrifted so this one was a major score. This one is so long on me and warm it's more like a coat than jacket. I'm looking forward to figuring out how to style it as the years go on as it's a bit quirky.

Oh, I absolutely agree @PDXXXX - there's just something so magnificient about finding such a special piece like your St. John's coat at a significant fraction of the standard price. It's not just the money saved (which don't get me wrong, the savings feels amazing!) but there's just this sense of thrill and fabulous feels all around that you found / scored such a marvelous deal! "Major score" is right!! I'm super excited for you to find different looks to incorporate this beauty into. That in itself will be so much fun for you!

I know, I need to go post Day 9 y 10 of the Gratis but I fell asleep exhausted from work. This was to motivate me to be positive at work  feeling semi OK. I may be stressed but I sure looked cute. 😊

The Fit:

This look inspired me when I was cold and received my Sephora order this week. The sweatshirt @TeamBIC gifted us was perfect for Friday casual. But thanks to climate change a sweatshirt is not enough anymore in So Cal .

To make the fit Cute Casual and accessorize my flat hair. Perfectly small that it doesn't fall off my Fine hair. 👍🏽. Plus, I color blindedly thought the sweater was Navy, lol.

The Face:

I was always scared of Matte things on my face (except lipstick) and this has been my new loved Spf, it blurs my Pores like a foundation.  Supergoop! Mineral Mattescreen SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen 1.5 oz / 45 mL 

A hint of color with OLEHENRIKSEN Pout Preserve Hydrating Peptide Lip Treatment Lingonberry Jam Glimmer  and Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Treatz Hydrating + Strengthening Lip Oil Cherry / Farmacy Honey Butter Beeswax Lip Balm as a treatment base. Of course, there's my staple SC green shimmer stick and VBB future lash.

Catching up a bit. This was from earlier in the month, before I pulled out all my heavier coats. 

The Fit:

• faux wrap top - the details on this is what make it stand out - the pleating at the top and the buttons on the side

• black mid-rise, straight leg pants - these have some stretch to them which was important because I told the kid I was going to eat more chips-and-salsa than her when we met up for dinner, so I had to have the extra stretch. 😅 

• tan/light brown faux suede moto-style jacket - this is the statement piece of the look. It's soft and comfy. 

• black pumps - Michael Michael Kors Alina pump, along with Cole Haan x Nike pumps are my go-to basic, "no muss, no fuss" heels that create a nice clean line for me. The Michale Michael Kors pair has a slimmer heel. 

• green faux croc shoulder bag - a little pop of color

• hoop earrings - (I just wore these to dinner because they are a little weighty and my ears would not have been happy by the end of the day) - these are outside of my comfort zone in that they're bigger and flashier than I tend to wear but having something to add a little extra oomph didn't hurt. I was actually testing these out to see how they would wear for another occasion. I found these randomly on clearance and was so surprised by it - the original plan was that it would make a good gift for someone. As it turns out, that someone was me. 🤣 That happens far too often. 🙊

The Function(s):

coffee with a friend ☕ +  errands (post office / Sephora BOPIS & Target run) ☑️  +  dinner with my brother and his family 🍽 

The Fab:

⭐  the jacket - it's so soft. 😍 The style is not something I lean into very often (or at least it wasn't until I found this one). I like that I can use it to dress up everyday basics - be it a white tee and jeans, or an otherwise basic black ensemble. It's an easy way to elevate the classics and goes with simple as well as more edgy accessories, depending on my mood and where I'm heading off to do. I've also styled it with a black sheath dress and boots.
