2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hello lovely masking mavens! Please continue posting on the Q4 Thread which can be found here:

Many thanks to the wonderful @Aaliaa for beginning this thread and excited you are here.

To Post:

Each week features a different theme, as well as a letter of the alphabet for coming up with new masking ideas. Feel free to post as frequently or infrequently as you would like, with or without following the challenge; they are guidelines and just something we do for fun. We love hearing about every masking experience, and suggestions are always welcomed!

Please include the brand and name of the mask you are trying out, as well as a photo if possible. Any other details are greatly appreciated, including scent, if it's an exfoliating mask (include acid info if known), your overall experience, and whether or not you would repurchase. Don't forget to include a grade (thanks to @ShortErica for the idea) to help others along the way.

Most importantly, have fun and merry masking!

Mask Hacks -
Here are a few to get started thanks to our lovely BIC-ers, a big thank you for these fabulous ideas!

Trim off long chin and add to forehead for sheet masks

Squeeze tube lip balms (like Bite) into pans and place in magnetic palette

Layer lip sleeping mask (such as Laneige) over regular balm

Derma plane prior to a peel-off mask to ease the pain of removal

Warm water helps remove clay masks quicker than cold

Lay sheet masks flat prior to use so the serum is more evenly distributed

Remove clay/difficult masks in the shower to keep towel clean and removal easy

Use an HA serum prior to trying a mask with alcohol high on the ingredients list

Use a Makeup Eraser to remove wash-off masks

With a detox mask, apply a thicker layer where pores are

Use a resurfacing exfoliating spray (such as Kate Somerville’s Liquid ExfoliKate) before a detox mask to better clear out your pores

Re-use a large sample jar for a blank sheet mask pellet and fill it with essence/toner

Use a nail clippers to trip a mask if scissors are not on hand

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Another serving of placenta!

283B95CA-14D3-47DC-A264-4A68C3FE27C6.jpegSephora, Mediheal, AP, SH & Tatcha

Started off the night with a double cleanse and 45-second scrub of the AP Enzyme Peel. I am reading Charlotte Cho’s “The Little Book of Skincare: Korean Beauty Secrets for Healthy, Glowing Skin” and she describes the work that enzymes do like this:

The AMOREPACIFIC - Treatment Enzyme Peel is so gentle, and my skin has completely recovered from the SR Retinol that I felt comfortable in using it tonight. It’s an A+ for me.

After the AP I applied a thin layer of the Sara Happ Clay Mask and went for my sole gross mask of the week. I ordered this mask specifically for this week’s challenge, and now that it’s over I can reflect.

Every time I looked at the Mediheal Placenta Revital Essential Mask EX (not sure what the EX stands for for, but anything with placenta should be considered EX in my mind) I read it “Placenta Revival” which made me giggle. So the thing is, it was a great mask; I chose the Mediheal brand as I have loved their masks in the past, and this was no exception. It was a very thin cotton completely drenched in placenta greatness. It had the scent of some cosmetic item I used ages ago that was very pleasant. But I couldn’t keep it on for more than 15 minutes because it just really, really grossed me out. Skin looked great, plumped, dewy, and of course the last check mark, hardly any tackiness at all. It’s an A but I’d never repurchase because ewww. It’s placenta. From where?!?! This thought haunted me during those 15 minutes. I rinsed my face off even though it wasn’t tacky, and removed the SH clay mask. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to remove this. It just occurred to me while typing a cotton pad with micellar water would be best. I then applied a drop of my Josie Maran Argan Oil as @Loretta55 suggested, followed by the Tatcha Kissu. I am going to try his out under a few different lip sleeping masks but I like the extra hydration!

Finally, after a layer of La La, I applied the SEPHORA COLLECTION - Sleeping Mask - Coconut Water a gift from @keana1  and the first I’ve tried of Sephora’s sleeping masks. It has a very pleasant coconut scent, smooth gel texture, and left zero tackiness. An A for the compact packaging and all-around nice little sleeping mask! Thanks keana1Smiley Happy

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  I'm with you on the eww factor.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I guess there’s plenty of people who don’t feel the way we do @emaisgr8, but I’m happy on this side of the ‘eewwwww’ fence!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe Well, I am glad you gave it a try – it sounds like it turned out great! Mediheal was a great brand to go with – I've liked everything I've tried of theirs! 👍🙌

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I guess if you’re gonna go with gross, go with someone you know @Shosh85 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

bahaha @eshoe  that was a hilarious review - but agree kind of icky - like placenta from where?? thanks for reviewing - do not think i'll be adding that to my collection

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I wish it didn’t make my skin look and feel so nice @Kim888, but the anxiety is definitely not worth it!!! I’ll take roses or kale or even algae next please😄

that's does sounds scary @eshoe I'm thinking the same thi...

that's does sounds scary @eshoe I'm thinking the same thing... where is this coming from 🤔 perfect for gross week!!

Re: that's does sounds scary @eshoe I'm thinking the same thi...

Yeah I’m so grossed out, consoling myself with the idea of little baby soybeans @lmaster 😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Love the AP peel @eshoe! ♥️ I’m almost done with the DS I started in December. 😊 You’re a good sport for trying out the placenta sheet mask.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I wouldn’t be a good team player if I didn’t, @itsfi 😊 But no more gross weeks this year😂

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Hahaha @eshoe! 😂 The “gross” masks I’ve used so far have all turned out wonderfully. I have a couple more but maybe I should just stop while I’m ahead. 😆

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

It’s really true, @itsfi. Why does it have to be that way😆?!? Next year gross week is going before glam week, to get the icky stuff over with first.

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe from what I was reading this week (do not take this as gospel), most of the placenta in skincare is either cow or pig.  Not sure if that makes it less or more gross?  There is apparently also placenta from soy plants.  So we can pretend that yours was from a soy bean if it makes you feel better about it lol?

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

I read the same thing about placenta and cows, pigs but I’ve never heard of soybean placenta @missjeanie ? How can beans have a placenta? Do mushrooms have placenta? Have you ever seen a soybean with a belly button? 🤪😂😂🤣🤣 Speaking of beens, I have a craving for black jelly beans! 😋😋😋

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

lol too funny... I'm just picturing little mushrooms running around with their belly buttons out like a troll doll!  @keana1 that was a good laugh this morning!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@missjeanie  Wait a minute, I just had to jump in here, happy, little soy beans have a placenta??!! From having happy, little baby soy beans??!! @eshoe 🤔😏

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

lol I had picked up a mask that had placenta in the name and when I was googling the ingredients... because I was curious who's placenta it was... I found that it actually contained Phytoplacenta extract, which is made from soybeans, or rye, or roses... but mostly soy I think.  Something about the amino acids?  I should delve further into it sometime this week.  It was actually pretty interesting. @yankeefaithful @eshoe

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

Ok I have a glimmer of hope @missjeanie EB2A793C-61DC-4126-807B-4856125361C3.jpegsoybeans are listed as an ingredient. That may be enough research for me I don’t want to know if it’s any different, ha!

Re: 2019 Mask of the Week Challenge!

@eshoe  lol... I'm sure the soybean extract is what they meant on your mask! lol
