Let's keep this thread on topic!

Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):

Spoiler

Item #1 - $53.50

Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)

* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x

Total Spent - $162

Base Points Earned - 162

Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)

5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)

5x Item/Brand Earned - 434

Total Points Earned - 1285

Spoiler

Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.

Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.

The product id is the number given to the item in the URL.  So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number.  If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.

It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.

Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar.  It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204  Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.

My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:

(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward.  E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward.  Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase.  Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.

Re: Ulta GWPs

If I already get 2x points for having the credit card, Iโ€™m not sure what my incentive to go diamond would be.๐Ÿค”

Re: Ulta GWPs

@nikki

You should get 2.5 with Diamond and the card

(1 base point, 1 credit card point, .5 Diamond bonus)

Re: Ulta GWPs

I'm still curious to see what the buy-in will be. I'm mostly ok with the additional perks, but still would have preferred a free shipping (no minimum) option.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Iโ€™m hoping this free shipping doesnโ€™t cost me. We already get free shipping during the days of Beauty Sale.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Nice!

I just hope they don't alter the points redemption values (not that I've seen any indication that they are...I've just never seen a retailer make a program better without also taking something away lol)

I'll guess $900-1000 buy-in...double Platinum to earn double the Platinum bonus, maybe a bit more.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Ooo okay it'll be interesting to see how much Ulta thinks an extra .25 points above platinum and $25 minumum free shipping is worth.

I'm wondering how much the buy in is gonna be. It has to...

I'm wondering how much the buy in is gonna be. It has to be $900-1000 range.

RE: Ulta GWPs

itโ€™s their Jumbo Sale Event!!! Iโ€™m stacking up on my RedKen shampoo and conditioner!! Any of you dolls getting anything??

Re: Ulta GWPs

Need help on ULTA formula. Is it better to stack points during the 5x and used the points when they have discounts like 20%? I just found out that when you redeemed points you'll super less points for transactions.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@denn2626 interesting question that Iโ€™ve started to ask myself. To answer that question I think you need to ask โ€œwhat is 5x worth?โ€

assuming you had a 5x multiplier and are not platinum, 5x would yield a 2000 point redemption of $125 after spending $400. That means you only pay $400 for $525 worth of product. That is a 23.8% discount of the total retail value, without factoring in any coupons.

Say you took took advantage of 5x during a 20% coupon period. It still takes you $400 to get the 2000 point perk of $125, but now youโ€™re getting $500 worth of product because you had the 20% coupon.  In this scenario you spent $400 for $625 worth of product, which is a 36% discount on your total purchase.

If you have a 20% coupon and you get 5x, and choose to spend your points with a second 20% coupon during a 5x period it gets a little more complicated. 20% off means you can spend $156.25 which equals $125 after the 20% off coupon. The multiplier type will effect how many points you earn. If the multiplier is for overall purchase I do not believe you will receive points. However, if the multiplier is for a category or brand you will receive bonus points but not base points. Say you spent $156.25 on jumbo sized hair liters. You would get 4x (and not 5x because the base points donโ€™t count) of $156.25. That is 625 points for making a purchase that didnโ€™t come out of your pocket. I look at that as having a value of 625/2000*125 or $39.02.

Tl;dr - point multipliers are valuable and save you money on the back end but you need to come to your own conclusion about whether you prefer having a discount upfront or getting cash back later.

Re: Ulta GWPs

@itscarinis totally right. I will point out that no matter what you want to redeem your points in 2000 point increments to get the full value of your points. When you look at the benefits earn and redeem chart you see that 1000=50.00 but 2000=125.00 .

So Ulta gives you an extra 25.00 if you redeem every 2000 points.  I also believe that in a single transaction you can redeem 4000 points max for a 250.00.

Now when you redeem your points they do not subtract those points from the purchase you're making with them.  They merely subtract them from your beauty bank and your purchase points are separate from that.

When you get a discounted or hot buy product they will subtract from the base points just the dollar amount + 25% of base for platinum members. EX: Tarte Voluptuous Mascara originally 23.00 now 10.00.  Base points originally were 29 (platinum)  but minus the discount of 13.00x1.25=16.25. With the 5x multiplier it's based off the discount price of 10.00x4=40

29-16=13+40=53 points this particular product during this promo.

At this point with the new tease about their updating the rewards program I'm holding off on spending my points until the reveal and enjoying the accumulating them by purchasing hot buys and holiday sale items.  Happy Shopping.

Re: Ulta GWPs

Ulta is having their liter sale again. Plus I got a bonus offer for 5x points on all prestige liters on top of the 5x for Platinum purchase. So for my order of for basically $53 I'm getting 457 points, and that's not counting what I would get with my Ulta cc. Time to clean house!

Cross posting from Beauty News... Many people are guessing a โ€œDiamondโ€ rewards level.

Re: Ulta GWPs

I can't believe they've managed to keep all the details mum. I want to know what it's going to be! In particular, I'm really hoping this year's spending (either for all platinum members or for people who spent whatever the new tier level will be) will count towards the new tier. I spent waaaaaaay too much at Ulta this year.

Re: Ulta GWPs

You and me both, @missdarcy! I mostly want to know how it will affect current perks and if anything new will be added or taken away from the tiers already in existence. I guess we'll all find out in another couple of days!

Re: Ulta GWPs

Oh man, I completely forgot to order the holo bag GWP yesterday and now it's OOS Smiley Sad

Can someone post pictures when they receive and tell me it looks hideous IRL?  ::wimpers::

Re: Ulta GWPs

@ZombieMetroAnt@Lazybeautybeast

It's hideous!

๐Ÿ˜˜IMG_20171229_150700029.jpg

Ok, it's not hideous really.

It's got a bit much of the gold reflect for my taste, but it's cute.

However, it's pretty cheap. It's more of a stiff stamped plastic (and thin plastic at that) than the thicker softer vinyl that most of their bags are made out of. With any sort of use, I could see this falling apart pretty quickly...not so much from excessive wear breaking it down overall, but I could see one or two bad episodes of "gotta cram this down in my purse" bending and cracking the sides pretty quickly.

All in all, I'd say cute but likely not practical for daily use. Basic storage displayed in a corner somewhere loaded with spare mascaras or extra smashbox primers ( ๐Ÿ˜‚ ) would be about all I'd do.

Re: Ulta GWPs

๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ข  but it looks soooo pretty @RGbrown!  Thank you so much for the picture.  Just as I suspected, I'm feeling a bit of regret.
