Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Hello BIC! Whether having a set of makeup products all picked out in advance makes it easier to get ready in the mornings or if you're looking for a fun way to use the new-to-you and tried-and-true products in your collection, welcome!! 👋 Please feel free to join in as a theme suits your style or piques your interests. We love seeing and being inspired by what beauties everyone is using. 💋

Here we are, last month of 2025, and we have a couple more capsules to squeeze in before the year is over. We've been doing weekly capsules but for this last month, we're going to switch to 2-week periods. That said, if you like the weekly format, there are options this month that you can choose to do, to keep up with a rotating weekly capsule.

How does this work?

To add a little bit of fun and creativity to curating a makeup capsule, there will be a weekly theme or prompt on which that week's group of beauty products will touch upon. There's no need to have every single product for the week fit the theme exactly. All you need is one product. And, truth be told, how that product fits into the weekly theme is subject to interpretation. Yours, primarily. So, please feel free to be creative. This is about finding a set of makeup products that work for you and your lifestyle, whether already in your collection or waiting to be discovered (or, in some instances, re-discovered) by you. 

How Can / Do I Participate?  

There are several ways you can participate - You can post a photo of the products you use or tag and list them, as you like. You can give someone's post a heart and / or ask questions about products in someone's capsule. You can post a different capsule every week or once a month or every once in a while, when a theme grabs your interest or draws your attention. 

When and where are/will the weekly themes posted?

The themes are (or will be) included in the original post - under the section titled "Current Makeup Capsule Theme" or "Upcoming Makeup Capsule Theme". Occasionally, I will post a link to a separate post with the monthly themes.

Switching things up a bit with the cadence for our capsules as we head towards closing out 2025 with the makeup capsule challenge. For the last month of the year, we are going to go with 2-week capsule periods.

Put together a capsule consisting of one or more makeup product(s) that aligns with one or the other (or both) of the themes -

Why weekly? 
Years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you. 

When are the weekly themes posted?
I generally try to post the themes for the next month about two weeks before the start of that next month (so around the 15th of each month, give or take a few days), except that, for this month, weekly themes for weeks 2 thru 5 for January will be posted by or before end of the day on January 2. Weekly themes are updated at the end of the then current week (e.g., Sunday). This year, I will plan to update the weekly themes the Sunday before the start of the next week's theme, around 9pm Pacific / 10pm Mountain / 11pm Central / 12midnight Eastern Time.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

There's need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one item will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use - are they a favorite or a potential favorite? Are they just 'meh'? Or, is it time to declutter the item(s) from your stash?

Is there anything else I should include in my capsule?
It's all up to you what to include in your capsule. Some weeks, my capsule consists of completely different items than the week before. Other weeks, I've swapped out just a few items or have included additional items in one category of products - some of us refer to this as giving us options for the week. 

You may see reference to "fits." That was creatively coined by our fabulous @danielledanielle and refers to the bag or component that will hold the week's makeup and, specifically, does all the makeup for the week's capsule fit into the bag / storage component. You ca also include the makeup brushes and tools you use for application, if you wish.

I feel like a lot of these are solid products that you standby @itsfi , and that's a great thing.  I associate you with a few of them!  I've eyeballed that Gucci mist, and always take it out... I'm like..." We're different skin types and you have ENOUGH 🤣"

Now that I have another deluxe size sample of the Gucci primer from the Gucci digital masterclass, I don't need to ration this one. Ha! I want to see how it holds up in late fall / winter when my skin is more normal-to-dry and to see how it compares with my current (and longstanding) 🐐 Bobbi Brown Mini Vitamin Enriched Face Base Moisturizer & Primer with Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid 0.... for winter primers. Both could very well be part of my collection going forward, with the Gucci being more hydrating and the Bobbi Brown being moisturizing, but we'll see. As I say this, I'm now actually thinking I might be able to hold off on picking up a full size until the spring savings event because I'll have enough between the samples and the DS/mini sizes of the BB primer I have. 

Hahaha! I'll decant some of the Gucci mist into a couple of travel size bottles and bring it with me to the next event we might both be attending and you can try it first without committing to a full size. Yeah, for me, it's one of those products that I can find others that do something similar but when I go back to using the Gucci it reminds me very clearly that doing "something similar" is not at all equivalent to performing the same way - my skin and makeup, for better or worse, really like that Gucci mist. 😆

Week 35 - The Palettes Makeup Capsule  

One of my more minimalist makeup capsules, with 9 products. I probably could pare it down to 6 (if I use  sunblock as primer and stick with the palettes only for the lips), but my lips are a smidge chapped and a little  drier than usual so applying the lip balms throughout the day this week will help them heal. 

Complexion:

• Primer: I picked up the Gucci Hydrating Silk Priming Serum 1 as a promo gwp and just recently received another deluxe sample as part of the Gucci digital masterclass. 
• Foundation & Concealer: the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette ("MUFE") is a fabulous multi-tasker - cream base, concealer, blush, bronzer, highlight, contour and lip color in one. There'll likely be some mixing of shades required for a good match but if that's doable for you with one of the two palettes, it really is one to consider - great for travel, on the go, or when you just want a quick and easy makeup routine. 
• Concealer: The MUFE palette should be enough to conceal redness around my nose, but I have a couple of post-acne dark spots that may require something more, like the Armani Beauty Power Fabric + Longwear Matte Concealer.
• Setting Products: LYS Beauty Triple Fix Loose Talc Free Translucent Setting Powder and Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Hydrating & Waterproof Setting Spray 3.3 oz / 100 ml. I had planned on incorporating the  Hourglass Mini Ambient® Lighting Powder Dim Light into every capsule this month but am going to forego it this week. This'll be the first time I try the LYS powder + CT setting spray combo, and I want to see how they work without the finishing powder.

Eyes:

• Primer (Eye): Armani concealer + LYS powder
• Eyeshadow: Gucci Multi-use Palette De Beauté Quatuor, Summerina Brown - I'll be able to use all but the bottom right shade as eyeshadow - my eyes can be easily irritated when it comes to red eyeshadows. This week will be the first time I use this Gucci palette.
• Brows: Kosas Air Brow Tinted Clean Volumizing Eyebrow Gel Taupe 
• Eyeliner: If I feel like eyeliner, the top right shade in the Gucci palette can work.

Cheeks:

• Blush:  MUFE and possibly that bottom right shade in the Gucci palette.
• Highlight: MUFE or he top left shade from the Gucci palette.
• Bronzer & Contour: MUFE

Lips:

A few options for lip color in this capsule - the MUFE palette, the bottom right shade in the Gucci palette, or the two Rhode lip treatments - the lemontini (limited edition) or the vanilla scented/flavored clear balm from her original lip treatments. These can be worn alone or used as toppers over the shades from the MUFE and Gucci palette. 

The "Fits":
Surprisingly, everything fits in this compact Rhode bag. It zips effortlessly if my Tetris skills are on point when placing the products in the bag. While it doesn't look like it (and the measurements don't necessarily suggest it to be the case), the cushiony pouch is deeper than it is wide so easier to stack products on top of one another, than stand them next to each other in a line.

Excited to try out this ensemble of beauties. Just at a glance, it seems that focusing a capsule around a couple of palettes can keep things to a more minimalist feel while still providing options. Let's see how this capsule  performs throughout the week.

Week 36 (September 1 - 7) - The Workhorse(s) Makeup Capsule

With Labor / Labour Day on September 1, let's curate a collection of the workhorses in our makeup collection. Shine a spotlight on one or more products that consistently show up and get the job done! This can be a GOAT, holy grail, ride-or-die product, or something you've found yourself reaching for, a lot. It can also be a past favorite that you want to bring back into the makeup mix.

Week 37 (September 8 - 14) - The "Summer Favorites" Makeup Capsule  

Summer is coming to a close or so says the calendar; some places may see, or continue to see, toasty temps for a little while longer. In anticipation of summer's end, curate a capsule with one or more of your favorite beauty products from the summer.

Week 38 (September 15 - 21) - The LatinX Founded/Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule 

LatinX Heritage Month, runs from September 15 to October 15, and is a time to celebrate Hispanic and LatinX culture and experience in the US. Let's honor the LatinX beauty community by curating a capsule made up of one or more products from a LatinX founded or owned makeup brand. [NOTE: A non-exhaustive list of brands that fall within this criteria can be found in the spoiler below.]

Week 39 (September 22 - 28) - The Runway / Red Carpet Inspired Makeup Capsule 

Doing a little catch up here - New York Fashion Week (NYFW) will have taken place earlier this month as will the Primetime Emmy's. Were there any looks that went down the runway or walked the red carpet that caught your eye? Either this year or in years past? Put together a makeup capsule inspired by a favorite runway or red carpet look. Don't feel like you have to stop at your makeup. NOTE: September's NYFW will give us a preview of what is to come for  spring/summer 2026, and if there's a look you loved, curate away! Week 40 (September 29 - October 5) - The FALL into Color Makeup Capsule

Week 34 - The Gifted / Gift With Purchase Makeup Capsule

All but Hourglass Dim Light & the Makeup by Mario fall within the week's theme. The Hourglass I purchased myself and is part of the pan it! challenge - I told myself (and the pan it! group) that I would include it in every capsule this month in an effort to get more use out of it. The Makeup by Mario was gifted to me in another shade; this shade I purchased on my own after loving the gratis product.

It all fits. This bag was a GWP I believe. One of my favorite makeup bags.

RECAP: Week 33 was a good week for product usage. All but one of the products in last week's capsules are keepers. One of the liquid liners is on the chopping block. I'll continue to incorporate into looks throughout the next couple of months to see whether it stays or goes.

@danielledanielle, thank you; I pushed myself to edit this week's capsule to what it looks like. There was originally more ... well, just more. 🤣 I try to remind myself "capsule" not "collection" lol.

I need to put some fragrance samples in the upcoming fall shop my stash. I've been good  with going through lip liners over the summer. Thank you for the gentle reminder to update that post with my results from the summer, including which liners will see a "good bye".

I struggled, this is very 1st world problem-y, but I forgot things that were GWPs vs sets.  There's probably more items from sets  than I intended but 🤷🏽‍♀️

I did put in gifts, too...At least I can remember that!

Gucci Hydrating Silk Priming Serum 1 I thought this was the open one, it's not, 😂. OOP, I didn't have expectations, but it is a nice barrier primary and it gives dewy without overdoing it.  I love the GWP size because I only need a small amount, wish they'd sell this in a mini

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eyeshadow Palette Exaggereyes it doesn't curl my lashes, by it definitely thickens them

Those are some god gratis & gwp’s @danielledanielle! The Lawless plumping gloss is one of the best formulations out there for plumping without the intense stinging. I’m getting hooked on that Gucci primer too - my wallet is not happy. 😝

Week 33 - The Savvy Savings or Spectacularly Splurge-y Makeup Capsule 

I will be rotating between two capsule this week, depending on my mood and what's on my schedule for a particular day.

Primer:	Gucci Gucci Matte Primer 1 oz / 30 ml	This will be my first time using this primer that is well regarded among some of the BIC beauties.
Foundation:	Cle de Peau The Foundation	Skincare makeup hybrid. Part of my pan it challenge. Blurring. Illuminating. Luxurious.  I still have a little bit of my tan left and will mix in a drop of two of the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Glow Liquid Bronzer to better match my current complexion.
Concealer:	Armani Beauty Power Fabric + Longwear Matte Concealer	There have been only a small handful of concealers that I've finished and repurchased. This is one of those concealers. It's been repurchased more than once.
Setting Products:	Prada Beauty Reset Rebalancing Refillable Setting Powder  Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL	I don't recall having used these two beauties in the same makeup look and am excited to give them a go. I finished a bottle last week and immediately pulled out this one which I had at the ready. 😉 It's a GOAT for a reason.

This gwp Christian Dior pouch is one of my favorite makeup bags. I've never ranked them but this is easily in the top 10 and probably in the top 5 as well. It checks off all the boxes - fit, feel & functionality. 💖

Base / Foundation:	L'Oreal True Match Lumi Glotion 903 Medium mixed with one of the following: L'Oreal True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum (2-3 Light Pale) Mizon Snail Repair Intensive BB Cream SPF50+ PA+++ #23	Seeing one of @caitbird 's previous hauls and looks with the Lumi Glotion product motivated me to pull mine from my stash. I've been using it and the lighter 902 Light shade every so often. The Medium hue does a nice job of adding some depth and warmth to my base products, all while adding a lovely glow. It will also help to sheer out the other two products a little.  If I need a concealer, I'll repurpose the BB cream.
Setting Products:	SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation  TirTir Mask Fit Make Up Cool Fixer (gratis)	SC = GOAT. I've lost track of how many compacts I've gone through. There was a period of time when the powder and concealer were my only base products.  I've done a patch test of the TirTir but have been saving it for the warmer seasons. It varies by the day whether it's actually warm in the city, but I'm going to start incorporating it into my routine every so often, beginning this week.
EYES
Primer (Eye):	I'll repurpose the Mizon BB cream + SC powder
Eyeshadow:	I'll either forego eyeshadow or I'll repurpose the bottom right shade in the palette	I'm looking to use this capsule to test out the liners and it may just be easier to see how they perform without wearing eyeshadow.
Eye Liner:	Clio Waterproof Pen Liquid Eye Liner 001 Black Heroine Make by Kissme Waterproof Eyeliner with Ultra-Fine 0.1mm Tip	It's been 5-6 years since my favorite Dollywink liquid liner was discontinued. I've found some very good ones, ones I'll keep in my collection, but I still try out other liquid liners, including ones from Korean (Clio) and Japanese (Kissme) brands. This week will be the first time for both.
Brows:	L'Oreal Faux Brow Hair-Like Brow Filling Pen (Dark Brunette)	I learned about this product at Ulta Beauty World. One of the items that has impressed me. I'm a brow gel gal so that is saying something.
Mascara:	Physician's Formula Waterproof Butter Lash Splash Mascara (Blackest Black)	This'll be my first time trying out this mascara. If it doesn't work out, I'll go with the tried-and-true Clio Kill Lash Superproof Mascara.
CHEEKS
Blush, Bronzer & Highlighter	Sephora Collection Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Palette (gratis) (discontinued)	This is the darker of the two colorways that launched in 2022 (?)
LIPS
Lip Liner:	SEPHORA COLLECTION Colorful 8HR Longwear Transferproof Lip Liner 11 Cinnamon Brown  NYX Slim Lip Liner Pencil SLP 857 (Nude Beige)
Lip Balm:	Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm, Red Dahlia	My favorite drugstore lip balm is the original Dr. Pepper Bonne Bell Lip Smacker that has been discontinued over a decade ago, or at least discontinued in the US.
Lip Gloss:	Reina Rebelde Lip Brilliance (Virgencita)	A shimmery, slightly warm leaning deep rosy-nude gloss. One of my favorites in this color family.

This compact makeup bag from Sonia Kashuk holds a lot more than you think. Not a complaint, but an observation and feedback. 

RECAP: Week 32

Fewer declutters this year which is a good thing in my mind. It's the result, hopefully, of doing some major decluttering last year and keeping my beauty spend on the low side. A few things I'm passing based on last week's capsule include these beauties:

- Refy Warm Taupe - This leans warm, very warm, and I really should have known that. I mean, the shade name is "Warm Taupe" after all. It's too warm for me, leaning more or a pale rusty terracotta hue than taupe. I've cut off a portion of the tip, reshaped and sanitized it. If I can't find it  new home, it will be included in my next donation drop off. 

Oh, these next two I came upon  while going through my things to put together a savvy savings capsule for this week. 

I do really like the original version of the Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer, including the scent. The one pictured is a limited edition, Physician's Formula Waterproof Matte Monoi Bronzer. While the fragrance in this one isn't bad per se, it is so strong. Too strong. So strong that my teeth started hurting. I asked a friend to take it away for me asap because the scent is to much.

snif hot cakes Perfume smells like maple syrup pancakes, which isn't a bad thing at all, but scent was too sweet for my liking. I considered keeping it and seeing how it layers with some vanilla scents but decided to donate it. I'm fortunate to have a host of fragrances that I need to make my way through (and to, for that matter). This one will get more attention with someone else.

That's a good reframe @danielledanielle; thank you. Had you asked me earlier this month which prompt I was going to use as inspiration, I would have said the splurge-y one. Been doing some drawer reorg and well, I found some things to play with. 😅 I put together both bags but was very indecisive about which route to take for this week's capsule. Choosing both has worked out really well this week.

Yes, Sonia Kashuk - I remember she was at Beautylish for a time. She had a concealer palette I really liked; the Makeup by Mario one reminds me of it. Love her beauty sponges and brushes, and of course, her bags!!
