The Fit, The Fab and The Face: Outfit and Inspo Thread

I realized we don't have an OOTD, outfit of the day thread, which isn't needed but can still be a lot of fun.  It's dress up for me, but make it adult.

This was part spurred by my natural hair journey, Tress Trek - A Transition Journal from Relaxer to Natural and NYFW and Zendaya.  99% Zendaya.

The Fit- this can be your attire, or what has arisen from the Capsule Challenge, your makeup bag.  Hair and fragrance "fits" count, too

The Fit: Corset is Aqua, Pants RTR purchase and the shirt is a way back 

The Fab; NYE! 🪩  I wanted to be shiny

The Face: One of pmg's holiday 5 pans with Dior Sequin 999

The Fit: MM Cape, BR shirt dress, DVF pants and Aerosoles loafers

The Fab: Again NYE 🥂...I used the dress's belt cloth as a tie

The Face: Lashes are called Stiletto from Cade Cosmetics.  They are very curly, but tapered, so it's pretty intense without overwhelming.  The shadow is the PMG 5 pan (Spectular Seduction) with Dior's Miss Dior 5 pan.  I love how the shimmer people just blended in

This duo of outfits took some time for me to put together. Some of it was me being very selective with what pieces I wanted and taking my time to find themm and, some, much, of it, was the weather - it's been colder than usual for this time of the year on this coast and I've been bundled up in thicker sweaters and puffy jackets a lot more, with basic black pants and a blouse. But with a few sunny and warmer days sprinkled here and there this and last week, I grabbed the outfits I had waiting on standby. Sorry for the delay @danielledanielle.

The INSPO:

Debbie Ocean

The mastermind behind Ocean's 8, Debbie Ocean has used her time in prison to meticulously plan The Met Gala heist.

The Fit:

• Long, black, single-breasted trench
• Olive green mock neck satin midi dress (altered, see below) - I had a vision for a dress in this shade. Months passed, then this piece popped up, and with some alterations by the good people at Nordstrom, my vision for the dress came to be. 
• Light tan ankle strap heels
• Bow clutch, Cuyana
• Drop earrings
• Leaf bracelet
• Aviator sunnies

The Fab:

• The dress - I had it altered to remove the sleeve - it looks very fashion forward but I didn't feel comfortable pulling it off, and it wasn't what I originally had in mind, and in this instance, I wanted to keep to that design. Removed the sleeve and turned it into a belt of sorts. Also, you can't see from this image but the original design has a cutout on one side. I had that covered up, which gave the top and waist a more fitted look and the sleeve as belt tied (heehee!) the new fit together.
• The clutch - I also really like the clutch. Have worn it with a few outfits, dressy and more casual.
• The jewelry - Were they cobbled together by Mindy Kaling's Amita or did Sandra Bullock's Debbie Ocean loft them in the con artist scamming scent at the fancy department store after she's released from prison? Dunno, on the advice of her legal counsel, Debbie pleads the Fifth.

The Face:

• More of a neutrals, mocha mousse inspired look a la this week's @Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025 
• In a nod to Riri, it's Fenty Icon Semi-Matte Lipstick (discontinued) Pose Queen. I have a full size refill of this shade but am working my way through this sample packet. I won't be able to use it up this year but hope to see it on the Foil Challenge sometime next year - there's a lot in these blister packets so it won't be anytime soon, maybe before spring if I'm lucky. 

Lou Miller

Every mastermind needs a partner in crime and for Debbie Ocean, that's Lou Miller. Lou's style in the film is largely made up of exceptionally tailored suits (is that at the hands of Helena Bonham Carter's Rose Well?), lots of leather and velvet fabrics in a variety of shades, jackets that standout all by themselves and loads of jewelry.

The Fit:

• Dropped waist, A-line, leopard-print dress - it looks like a mini in the photo; on me, it lands about an inch above my knee. 
• Fluffy, faux (feathers? or is it fur?), burgundy jacket
• Fishnet stockings
• Square-toe, stacked heel, black knee-high boots
• Small bracelet hobo bag, Chloe
• Lots of jewelry (did a little reorganizing and decluttering a couple of months ago, and came upon some old costume ring pieces that I didn't know I had)
• Aviator sunglasses

The Fab:

• The jacket: Okay, true story - I saw a jacket similar to this in Target one night and it's what got my wheels in my brain turning on how to put together an outfit inspired by Cate Blanchett's Lou Miller. It's a great looking jacket but it's one of those items that I'd have in my closet as an "outside my box" piece of clothing. I didn't purchase the jacket that evening and it was gone when I did finaly decide to go back for it. 😣 I did, however, find something similar at a local store that was, sadly, closing up shop, so I was able to pick it up during their liquidation sale. It was the last one, the one on the mannequin so I got it for a steal. 
• The hobo bag: I typically wear this by holding the loop in one hand like I might a top handle bag, but I love that the handle is designed like a bracelet and is worn on the wrist, like a bracelet. Very fitting for a character who is often decked, D-E-C-K-E-D decked!! in jewelry.

The Face:

• Same capsule as the one I used for the Debbie Ocean inspired outfit, but I went lighter, softer on the eyeshadow with just a wash of color and used the darker shadow from Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette 100 Stora Dolls for eyeliner.
• Again, in keeping it in the Ocean's 8 family, went Rihanna's Fenty Icon Semi-Matte Lipstick (discontinued) but this time in Scholar Sista. More details on the lip look on the 100 Days of Lipstick Challenge thread.

@itsfi  this is so fun! Love that you took inspiration from these movie characters - I have not seen this movie, but it sounds fun! How cool that you were able to get the Nordstrom dress altered to be exactly what you wanted, I love that.

Thank you @caitbird; it's been a while since that movie came out, an offshoot of the Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve movies. I'm glad I waited for the dress style and color I had in mind; it doesn't always pan out. Timing worked out well too since a smaller concept Nordstrom came into the city close to me and they have onsite alterations. I've only availed myself of that benefit a few times before so it was fun to be able to do so here.

Lately, I've been wearing less makeup most days; mainly because I was focusing on caring for my skin but also in large part because I've been trying to squeeze in as much sleep time as I can - that eye serum from my advent calendar and my concealer are doing some good things but nothing is better for addressing those pesky dark circles under the eyes than some good, quality sleep. I still curate a weekly capsule a la the Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025 but more so I have a full face (or my idea of a full face) at the ready, but I'd say that I only use all of the items I set aside about 2-3 out of the 7 days in a week. If you're up for popping over to the thread, please do - always love seeing what people are using for their daily looks, even if it's a minimal capsule of sunblock and lip balm! I've had more of a minimalist approach most of the time these days with a day here and there where I'll do a bit more to play with some of the things in my stash / capsule. Otherwise, it's been just a foundation of some sort on certain parts of my cheeks, concealer over blemishes, under the eyes and to conceal the redness around my nose this time of the year, and some combination of lip products. I'll usually curl my lashes but may not necessary use mascara. It's been so chilly and windy I don't feel like I need blush - walk outside and my cheeks will get a natural flush of pink to them. We have a couple more weeks of capsules for this year and then 2026 themes will come into play - I'll include a sneak peek next week of a few capsule themes for 2026.

@itsfi , there's such a well thought out plan when you do these.  I also think there's that fun in curations... Which is the whole point of this, just to give peeks/insights into dress up that just make it "fit" rather than emulate/follow anything too specific.

Ok, I really liked this outfit.  My self collage is totally normal. 

The Fit: RTR Boss pants and Obando x RTR we're purchased as well as the sunnies Ave Wrangler jacket.  The pointy shoes are Marc Jacobs, which I have a love/hate relationship.  (They are very narrow and the bottoms had to be replaced after 1-2 wears 🙄, but dang it they look so cool...)The scarf, an old Sephora GWP, but I got it off of Poshmark 

The Fab: I love a scarf draped a few ways, and since my suit was neutral and my lip cool, I figured this discordance would work.  I'm very business, but glam? I'm bizglam? Corporate Coquette!!!

The face: Used the gray from Makeup by Mario Eyeshadows, which helped the muted mauves pop in a different way.  Stuck on some falsies and spent waaaaaaay too much time on the lip combo, which I'll eventually post in Lips on Lock 🔐: List Your Lip Combos 💄👄

The Fab: a bird of paradise.  Hear me out.  I took myself out on a date, and really wanted to wear this dress because it's pretty sheer and soon it'll be too 🥶.  The dress itself is bird like, so I decided to lean into it in a way

The Face: Lightwork VII for a colorful smoky halo

The Fit: Tan BR pants and button up. RTR for the Maison Margiela Cape... This was an immediate purchase.  Like, do I need a cape?!? [YES]
The Fab: 70s/autumn tones with an overall Dandy feel.  Plus I just stole the colorway off the stock photo.
