Summer is officially here, BIC! 😎 And we’ll have some easy breezy weekly capsule makeup prompts over the next few months to match the season. Whether having set of makeup products at the ready each week makes it easier to get ready in the mornings, or if you're looking for a fun way to shop your stash / use what you already have (or what newness that you pick up along the way), welcome! 👋 Please feel free to join in weekly or as a theme suits your style or piques your interests. We love seeing (and being inspired by) what beauties everyone is using. 💋
thread.
Week 35 (August 25 - 31) - The Palettes Makeup Capsule
Why weekly?
Years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. My reviews here will likely not be as detailed, but I will at least try to include a few thoughts about the products at the end of the week or beginning of the next week. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
Having a weekly capsule at the ready at (or near) the beginning of the week has also been helpful with making getting ready in the morning easier and more efficient, and that, has made it more fun too. It's also a great way for me to see how well a product performs with other products and that makes the decision to keep, donate, re-home or toss an item a lot easier. Also want to note that if the makeup for the week's capsule is not something you want to use for the entire week, that's fine, too. I generally use the makeup in the week's capsule 4-6 days during the week, sometimes more, sometimes less.
When are the weekly themes posted?
I generally try to post the themes for the next month about two weeks before the start of that next month (so around the 15th of each month, give or take a few days), except that, for this month, weekly themes for weeks 2 thru 5 for January will be posted by or before end of the day on January 2. Weekly themes are updated at the end of the then current week (e.g., Sunday). This year, I will plan to update the weekly themes the Sunday before the start of the next week's theme, around 9pm Pacific / 10pm Mountain / 11pm Central / 12midnight Eastern Time.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
There's need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one item will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use - are they a favorite or a potential favorite? Are they just 'meh'? Or, is it time to declutter the item(s) from your stash?
Is there anything else I should include in my capsule?
It's all up to you what to include in your capsule. Some weeks, my capsule consists of completely different items than the week before. Other weeks, I've swapped out just a few items or have included additional items in one category of products - some of us refer to this as giving us options for the week.
You may see reference to "fits." That was creatively coined by our fabulous @danielledanielle and refers to the bag or component that will hold the week's makeup and, specifically, does all the makeup for the week's capsule fit into the bag / storage component. You ca also include the makeup brushes and tools you use for application, if you wish.
Week 33... Let's. Get. Splurgy.
I decided on a few quads, because I wanted to do some type of smoky eye each day. I've entered what I'm calling my smokeshow era 🚬✨
PAT McGRATH LABS Venus in Fleurs Luxe Eyeshadow Palette: Voyeuristic Vixen
PMG Rose Risqué
Prada Beauty Dimensions Multi-Effect Refillable Eyeshadow Palette 09 Primula & Prada Beauty Dimensions Multi-Effect Refillable Eyeshadow Palette 04 POETRY
Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette 300 Kasbah Spices
VBB Smoky Eye Brick
I think most of these were picked up with a percentage off, except the VBB one
Fit Check
Fenty x Tilbury AKA Athlete Endorsed capsule
Fenty I believe paired up with NY Liberty 🗽🙌🏽
And CT has a partnership with Formula F1 which at first was like whut? But in hindsight I think CT was a little ahead in the game.
There's also SEPHORA COLLECTION Size Up Volumizing Mascara Blue , and yes, they are with the Valkyries. And the only Wyn products I have is this holiday gloss set.
As for Atelier Cologne... It's in there cause I wanted it🤣
Fit:
I'm surprised it fit. Obvs, it won't close as I use it, but I know it can.
Excellent tie-ins @danielledanielle! Curious to hear your thoughts between the Yves Saint Laurent Lash Clash Extreme Volume Mascara Electric Blue and the SEPHORA COLLECTION Size Up Volumizing Mascara Blue
@itsfi , I don't have the blue lash clash, just reg black! (I know). My blue mascara wardrobe is the SC, Fenty, Shiseido and L'Oreal Voluminous. I like the SC blue one a lot, but it needs more than one coat to show up on my lashes, but I don't use too many coats (I think 2.5-3), otherwise it gets spidery
Week 32 - The Athlete Founded / Owned / Endorsed / Influenced Beauty Brand(s) Makeup Capsule
A new theme to the makeup capsule challenge. With the exception of a handful of lip products, this week's beauties are tried-and-true.
Category: | Product: | Comment(s): |
COMPLEXION | ||
Primer: | Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion Mineral SPF 60+ Sunscreen | Using skincare for my primer and SPF seems like a good choice. Muni "Lily" He is a professional golfer and an ambassador/partner for one of Shiseido's sunscreens. |
Base / Foundation: | Cle de Peau The Foundation CLE CCC Cream (Broad Spectrum SPF50 PA+++) | I'm not wearing a lot of foundation these days; mainly going with lighter coverage and just concentrating product on my cheeks and around my nose to even skin, and concealer to hide or reduce the appearance of these pesky pimples. UD lives up to its claims - self-setting and waterproof. Cameron Brink, a player in the WNBA is an ambassador for the brand. CdP is part of the pan it! Challenge this year. I go through cycles of reaching for this. Trying it out in the "summer" here and I'm reminded once again why this is such an exceptional product (and for the price, it needs to be exceptional!) Ahhhh, CLE CCC Cream is one of my faves. It really flies under the radar. I've had this in my stash for 4-5 years and have it in a couple different shades. The best of a BB and CC cream. It never fails me. They've expanded their shade range as they've grown into larger markets (and I'd love to see them add a few more shades on both ends and some olive undertones). |
Concealer: | HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-puffing Concealer with Fermented Arnica | Bringing out the big guns to deal with the unwelcomed unsightlies. 😣 I was doing so well but the periodic breakouts on my chin have come back this and last month. Ugh. Gonna have to try to manage it better next month. In the meantime, it's a layer of Violette fr. Invisible Bandage (not pictured) and then the concealer. |
Setting Powder: | SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Powder Foundation | This is one that has been in my stash since I learned of its existence lo these many years ago. Lololol I've worn it as a powder foundation as well as to softly set my liquids and creams. Sephora is a founding partner in the Golden State Valkyries. |
Setting Spray: | ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray | It's supposed to be warm(er) here this week so this'll keep my face in place on those days. It's less drying on me in the summer months but I still sandwich it between whatever hydrating spray I'm using in my skincare routine at the time. Simone Biles is said to use this setting spray to keep her game day face in place. |
Finishing Powder: | Hourglass Mini Ambient® Lighting Powder Dim Light | Another product from this year's pan it! challenge and one that needs to be shown some attention. This'll be a part of every capsule this month. At least that's the plan. |
EYES: | ||
Brows: | Glossier Boy Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel-Pomade | It's quick & easy; keeps my brows looking groomed. I'm a fan. Adam Rippon of the US Figure Skating Team is a fan, too. |
Waterline: | Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light 1 (discontinued) | Still searching for a comparable replacement. |
Mascara: |
DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara Black
(not pictured) | I'm going to assume that many an athlete wears waterproof mascara (if they were mascara, that is), including synchronized swimmers. Hmmm ... I may need to research which mascaras they use because if something holds up for those athletes, it's gotta be good, right?! |
CHEEKS: | ||
Bronzer: | Mario uses his blurring bronzer in the YT videowhere she does Suni Lee's makeup. I don't have that one but his Enhancer product works well for me. If I'm remembering right, Suni Lee uses the original Glow Recipe serum. | |
Blush: | WYN Beauty MVP: Most Verstile Pigment Multifunction Lip & Cheek Color (Soar) | There's a lot of pigment in this liquid lip/cheek combo but it blends out easily. |
LIPS: | ||
Lip Liners: | NYX Slim Lip Pencil 857 Nude Beige (Simone Biles) Rhode Lip Contour Spin Rom&nd Lip Mate Pencil 05 Taupey Shade | My options are overkill, I know, even with having whittled it down to this handful. Most are lip liners, which I'm including at least a couple in my capsules this month as lipliners are part of my summer shop my stash this summer. Athletes that have used, or who have formal partnerships with the brand, are listed in parens with the product name. |
Lipstick: | WYN Beauty Word of Mouth Max Comfort Matte Lipstick (Brave) | It's described as a mauve brown. The color looks more brown thn the swatch but on my lips it leans a lot more warm. |
Lip Gloss: | Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Cherry Amor (limited edition)
Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer Grape Splash (limited edition) | I have few well loved beauties from Fenty, none more so than the gloss bombs. Cherry Amor was part of a limited edition set and Grape Splash (which I keep wanting to call Grape Soda) was kindly gifted to me by a friend. Simone Biles is said to wear these from time to time. |
Lip Balm: | Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment - Salted Caramel | Love a lip balm with SPF in it, and since it's an athlete centric prompt this week, I assumed a lip balm with SPF would be appropos.
Suni Lee has touted lip balms from Olehenriksen and Rhode among her favorites. I have the specific shades that's been seen using on her social media but went with these particular ones this week. |
TOOLS: | ||
Beauty Sponge: | WYN Beauty | Part of the limited edition introductory set |
Brushes: | Otis Batterbee travel (variety of brushes) | I lke that the brush head and hairs on these are the same as the full size; it's just the handles are shorter. |
Eyelash Curler: | Tower 28 Beauty MakeWaves Lash Curler | I have quite the selection of lash curlers, all of which I use or have used at one point or another; this one is my current favorite. |
@danielledanielle, this turned out to be a larger capsule than I originally envisioned. 😬 Not uncommon. It was all the lip options. 💄
The (Lip)Sticks (aka Lips + Sticks) Makeup Capsule - I am a little late to this week's challenge. I had fun pulling this one together. So many sticks.
MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick Sand - we shall see how this goes with the
DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick 2,5 N Neutral
Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Blush Healthy Glow Stick in Peachy Glow (can't tag for some reason)
Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Warm Wishes Effortless Cream Bronzer Stick Happy Sol
Girlactik Shadow Stick (I think the shade is called skin?)
Ami Colé Brow Pencil in soft brown (Received at Sephoria 2024)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil Whiskey
Oooouh, what a beautiful capsule @Mellmars1185! Streamlined, function and with some fabulous products to give a lovely warmth and glow! I'll be interested in how the Dior + Merit combo work for you. Have you used the Merit before? Curious to know your thoughts on it as a foundation, and as a concealer.
@itsfi Thank you very much! I havr tried the Merit before...but I used it as a foundation. I don't remember loving it or hating it. I have had it for a few years so I am curious on how it will preform. Since I used it last, I have been more mindful of my skin prep prior to applying makeup. I am thinking that using it with my finger tips will warm up the product and I can pat it in. This will be a fun experiment. I remember you have used the Merit. Do you have any tips on how to use it as a concealer?
I can't believe I forgot to include a lipstick 🤭
@Mellmars1185, I have to do the same when I use the Merit stick - make sure my skin is very well moisturized. It leans on the drier side, which isn't uncommon for foundation sticks. As for using it as a concealer, I also find it's helpful to have a hydrating mist handy. Depending on the area I'm trying to cover, I'll either mist the area after dotting on the concealer, or the brush before blending. I've mainly been rotating Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL , Rhode Glazing Mist or d'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum which I reach for more in the winter months. If I'm breaking out, depending on what stage my acne is in, I'll either apply Violette fr. Invisible Bandaid over an active zit or open wound, or reach for La Roche Posay Serozinc as my hydrating spray if the pimple is still under the surface.
About the lipstick, lol, it happens. Quite a bit. Which lipstick(s) have your been using this week?
@itsfi Thanks for the tips! I used the merit with the Milani setting spray. It did help blend out the concealer. I set with the ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini Ultimate Blurring Setting Powder Universal Translucent . Thie week on the lips I used Chanel Intense Caramel (the long ladting liquid lipstick) and Lisa Eldridge in Simone.
@itsfi Here is my Lips and Sticks capsule! It’s more sticks than lips!
Thanks for reminding me to mix my bronzer with my foundation! It worked perfectly!!
MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick Sand
Ami Colé Light-Catching Highlighter Balm Glaze
MERIT Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer Siene

MILK MAKEUP Cooling Water Jelly Tint Lip + Cheek Blush Stain Phreeze
Wander Beauty Upgraded Lashes™ Thickening Mascara because my eyelashes are blonde and if I don’t wear mascara I look like I have no lashes!
@itsfi I have been using the Rhode on my cheeks and the Milk on my lips! I’ve been having. Stain moment. And I can put a little peptide lip treatment on top! I find the stain seems to last a little longer for my day! Or it least it lasts past my morning coffee!! But I totally should try layering.
