Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Summer is officially here, BIC! 😎 And we’ll have some easy breezy weekly capsule makeup prompts over the next few months to match the season. Whether having set of makeup products at the ready each week makes it easier to get ready in the mornings, or if you're looking for a fun way to shop your stash / use what you already have (or what newness that you pick up along the way), welcome! 👋 Please feel free to join in weekly or as a theme suits your style or piques your interests. We love seeing (and being inspired by) what beauties everyone is using. 💋

Summer 2025 OP 1.png

Summer 2025 OP 2.png

How does this work?
To add a little bit of fun and creativity to curating a makeup capsule, there will be a weekly theme or prompt on which that week's group of beauty products will touch upon. There's no need to have every single product for the week fit the theme exactly. All you need is one product. And, truth be told, how that product fits into the weekly theme is subject to interpretation. Yours, primarily. So, please feel free to be creative. This is about finding a set of makeup products that work for you and your lifestyle, whether already in your collection or waiting to be discovered (or, in some instances, re-discovered) by you.

How Can / Do I Participate?
There are several ways you can participate - You can post a photo of the products you use or tag and list them, as you like. You can give someone's post a heart and / or ask questions about products in someone's capsule. You can post a different capsule every week or once a month or every once in a while, when a theme grabs your interest or draws your attention.

When and where are/will the weekly themes posted?
The weekly themes are (or will be) included in the original post - under the section titled "Current Makeup Capsule Theme" or "Upcoming Makeup Capsule Theme". Occasionally, I will post a link to a separate post with the monthly themes.

Additional FAQs

Why weekly?
Years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. My reviews here will likely not be as detailed, but I will at least try to include a few thoughts about the products at the end of the week or beginning of the next week. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

Having a weekly capsule at the ready at (or near) the beginning of the week has also been helpful with making getting ready in the morning easier and more efficient, and that, has made it more fun too. It's also a great way for me to see how well a product performs with other products and that makes the decision to keep, donate, re-home or toss an item a lot easier. Also want to note that if the makeup for the week's capsule is not something you want to use for the entire week, that's fine, too. I generally use the makeup in the week's capsule 4-6 days during the week, sometimes more, sometimes less.

When are the weekly themes posted?
I generally try to post the themes for the next month about two weeks before the start of that next month (so around the 15th of each month, give or take a few days), except that, for this month, weekly themes for weeks 2 thru 5 for January will be posted by or before end of the day on January 2. Weekly themes are updated at the end of the then current week (e.g., Sunday). This year, I will plan to update the weekly themes the Sunday before the start of the next week's theme, around 9pm Pacific / 10pm Mountain / 11pm Central / 12midnight Eastern Time.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

There's need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one item will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use - are they a favorite or a potential favorite? Are they just 'meh'? Or, is it time to declutter the item(s) from your stash?

Is there anything else I should include in my capsule?
It's all up to you what to include in your capsule. Some weeks, my capsule consists of completely different items than the week before. Other weeks, I've swapped out just a few items or have included additional items in one category of products - some of us refer to this as giving us options for the week.

You may see reference to "fits." That was creatively coined by our fabulous @danielledanielle and refers to the bag or component that will hold the week's makeup and, specifically, does all the makeup for the week's capsule fit into the bag / storage component. You ca also include the makeup brushes and tools you use for application, if you wish.

🎆Week 27 (June 30 - July 6) - The Indie Brands Makeup Capsule and/or The Canadian Founded/Owned Brands Makeup Capsule

Let's celebrate our indie brands and/or Canadian founded/owned brands this week by putting together a capsule with one or more makeup products from independent and/or Canadian founded/owned makeup brands.

There's no singular definition of an "indie" or "independent" brand, that I know of at least. For purposes of the non-exhaustive list below, I have taken it to mean a makeup brand that is independently owned and operated and not a subsidiary, branch or division or a larger corporate entity or conglomerate.

Below are non-exhaustive lists of brands that fit this week's capsule theme.

😎 Week 28 (July 7 - 13) - The Multi-Taskers / Repurposed Makeup Capsule and/or The "On The Go: Summer Edit" Makeup Capsule
Two options for this week capsules, or you can do two separate capsules or combine this week's themes.

The Multi-Taskers / Repurposed Makeup Capsule - Curate a capsule with one or more products that serve multiple functions or that you've repurposed (e.g., a lipstick that you use for your lips and cheeks, a blush that works as a blush and bronzer, or a eyeshadow that you use as eye liner or bronzer.

The "On The Go: Summer Edit" Makeup Capsule - Put together a capsule made up of one or more makeup products that are convenient, versatile and/or travel friendly. If you have six (or so) products, the Sephora Six - Fast & Furious Edition thread may be of interest to you as well.

🔥 Week 29 (July 14 - 20) - The Sizzling Summer Samples Makeup Capsule
C'mon, I know we have them; some of us have piles of them - samples waiting to be put to use. Now's our chance. Look through your stash for one or more makeup sample to put to use in a sizzling summer samples makeup capsule. Who knows?! You may find a product this week that is a "must have" or a Love At First Sample!!! 🥰.

If you have samples of cheek products, consider putting them in your capsule and use them as part of the Summer Cheek Challenge 2025: A Song & A Slay. If you use up your sample, be sure to check out Foil Challenge .

🌈 Week 30 (July 21 - 27) - The Pop of Color: Summer Edit Makeup Capsule
Ahhh, summer, a season known for fun, bright colors or a bronzed goddess look. Use this week to put together a makeup capsule containing one or more products with a pop of summer color, whether that pop takes on bold, bright hues or bronzed goddess vibes.

💄 Week 31 (July 28 - August 3) - The (Lip)Sticks (aka Lips + Sticks) Makeup Capsule
July 29 is National Lipstick Day, a favorite holiday among the beauties in this community. To celebrate, curate a capsule with one or more stick products and one or more lipsticks. It doesn't have to be a newly purchased lipstick; it could be one of your favorites or a shade you come across while shopping your stash.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi Love this lineup!!! I am surprised that I have no Canadian makeup brands!!! I need to change this!!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Wait, whaaaaat?!! Noooo, really? You have an Ilia product, yes @ather? I know it's current HQ is in California but it's has its origins in Canada - Vancouver, if I'm remembering right.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi Hmmmm Ilia I have a mascara not opened. But it is a fav of mine. I’ve been looking at their tint again too! But hmmm nothing else. I have had brands in the past just not on hand now!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

I feel like, this is my sign to try that Haus Labs concealer. I am like, I like all the things here, so I'll probably like that, too, now that I figured out the shade match for the foundation. But, I don't need another concealer. I think it's a crime how many I have to work through at the moment, I lost count after awhile. I might have a blister pack and I see your upcoming samples challenge week 🤔. @itsfi

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

The Haus concealer is good, if you can find a shade match. It gets a lot of raves for how it performs under the eyes, and it does work well there. I like that the formulation is one that wears well under my eye and for concealing spots, redness and blemishes. I can often make a concealer work for both but I don't have to do too much work for that to happen with the Haus Labs one.

"I lost count after awhile" - yeah, that is all too real @danielledanielle. I'm planning on working through lip liners as a whole this summer (along with mists and tinted sunscreen) as part of Shop Your Stash Challenge: Summer 2025 and lemme just say that while I was well aware that my collection had grown, I had not realized just how much it had grown until I went to take that photo. 🙄 I know they say that "a picture is worth a thousand words" but there's really just one after seeing that shot - oopsy. "Eeek!" could also work. 😬 Looking at the pic again, I see I'm missing about 3 Dior liners, 1 Tom Ford, Charlotte Tilbury, NYX, Makeup by Mario, a couple Fenty, MAC ... Ugh.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Week 25 (June 16 - 22) - The "Welcome, Summer!" Makeup Capsule

I'll have two capsules this week; this one will be the first, for Monday through Thursday.

25A - Hello Summer 1.jpg

Everything for this week's weekday capsule fall under a "like", "love" or "GOAT" category with many newer-to-me products and some very much tried-and-true faves.

Complexion:

  • Primer: Dr. Jart+ Mini Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 15 mL/ .50 fl oz is a 🐐 all the way for me. The cream formulation goes on smoothly, covers redness all while giving me some added moisturization and sun protection. On days when I don't wear much makeup (less than "no makeup" makeup days, I often just wear this with some blush, bronzer and lip balm).

Eyes:

  • Eyeshadow: I'm a huge fan of eyeshadow sticks - they're easy to use and to port around, and many of these types of products I can wear on my oilier lids without the need for a primer. This week, I'll alternate between or use in combination togther, two favorite shades - Thrive Causemetics Infinity Waterproof™ Eyeshadow Stick (Dr. Q) and Victoria Beckham Beauty EyeWear Eyeshadow Stick (Caramel).

  • Brows: Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel - pricey but good. As with so many of Mr. Ford's beauty products.

  • Eyelash Curler: Tower 28 Beauty Lash Curler really works well with my lashes, making my eyes look more alert and awake - never a bad thing, and especially great for when I go sans mascara.

Cheeks:

Cheeks will be a courtesy of the MUFE Essentials Palette. This is so close to being one and done palette for me. Will experiment a bit with underpainting with the #MAKEUP BY MARIO Softsculpt® Multi-Use Bronzing & Shaping Serum with Hyaluronic Acid - I have the bronzing serums from Armani; they came out before the Makeup by Mario and I like them a lot, but need to use up these samples.

Lips

Once again, it'll be the MUFE palette for me.

Fragrance:

Going with Touchland Peachy Lychee Power Essence Body & Hair Fragrance Mist Peachy Lychee and a few of my frontrunners from the Sephora Favorites Fruits & Flowers Travel Spray Perfume Discovery Set w/ Redeemable Voucher :

The "Fits":

The bag for the week has a retro summer vibe - it's fun and quite roomy. It was from a Sephora Favorites set, if I'm remembering right.

25A - Hello Summer 2a.jpg

25A - Hello Summer 2b.jpg

RECAP - Week 24 Makeup Capsule

Everything worked out well, for the most part, though I didn't get around to trying out the fragrances in the Boy Smell discovery set. I've been working my way through the Sephora Favorites Fruits & Flower Discovery Set, using them as both fragrances and room sprays. The Ere Perez Lychee Creme Corrector is the only product on the fence and that is only because I'm not sure where it would fit in my collection. I'd rather have it go to someone who could use and love it so I may end up giving it away if I don't reach for it again this summer.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

I feel the summer and tropical vibes off of this edit @itsfi , this is also a good on the go edit, too.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Except for the Tom Ford brow gel, Tower 28 lash curler and the PML setting spray (the first two of which were replaced with Glossier and Shiseido items), this group of beauties was what I used for most of the nights I did wear makeup. I'm trying to come up with my ideal 'on the go' set of makeup products and these are all front runners. Though with the new eyeshadow products coming out from Danessa Myricks and Makeup by Mario, the Thrive Causemetics and Victoria Beckham Beauty ones may have some competition, especially that dual ended DM. @danielledanielle

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Week 24 - The "Sleeping Beauties" and/or "Shop My Stash" Makeup Capsule

It's a twofer this week since I shopped my stash for a few (okay, several) sleeping beauties. Here's what made the cut for this week's makeup capsule. Getting in another twofer with products from both the weekly and optional monthly themes. 🙌🙌

24 - Sleeping Beauties + Shop My Stash 1.jpg

In my head it didn't feel like this much but as I look at it all laid out ... 🤔 I'm not sure this can count as minimaximalist@danielledanielle as much as I like that term. This may be on the maximalist for me.

Complexion:

  • Foundation: Rhode Glazing Milk + DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick # - Saw a reel of Hailey Bieber using her Glazing Milk to lighten the finish and feel of the Dior stick. I love the Dior stick as is, but making it more of a skin tint while getting in a glow and hydrating my skin is never a bad thing. I've tried it a few times; I need to work on figuring out the right ratio for my skin but initial thoughts are this coupling makes a dynamic duo. Tagging @ather because she knows the glazing milk isn't one of my favorite Rhode products - I mean, it's a nice product don't get me wrong, I just haven't been as enamored with it as the majority of folks, or as I have with some of the other beauties in her lineup.

  • Concealer: Will use the Dior Foundation Stick for this as well (without the Rhode Glazig Milk)

  • Setting Products: Dior Forever Perfect Fix Face Mist - Makeup Setting Spray - Long Wear & Instant Hydration (trying to use this up, and I am so close) and, if I do use it up this week, then MAC Fix+ Setting Spray

Eyes:

  • Eye Primer: Ere Perez Lychee Creme Corrector - I'm repurposing this as an eyeshadow primer but this one may not be sticking around my collection.

  • Eyeshadow - Victoria Beckham Beauty Eyeshadow Stick (Caramel) stays without primer and it's one of the few eyeshadow sticks that I'm comfortable wearing without a primer.

  • Brows - Tom Ford Eyebrow Laminator - it's open, it's expensive, it should be put to use ... it will be put to use. It's actually a really good brow gel and I enjoy using it. The price though. I'm the first to admit that I have some leanings towards luxury makeup products but whoo-whee, this one's a splurge, for sure, and I want to get my money's worth.

  • Eyelash Curler: Tower 28 eyelash curler (not shown)

Cheeks

Lips: are about options this week. Well, that's the case for most weeks.

  • Rhode Lip Contour (Spin) + MERIT Shade Slick Hydrating Tinted Lip Oil Taupe has been a combo I've been enjoying for a few weeks after shopping my stash mid-May. I wasn't a huge fan of the Rhode as a lip contour but this spin shde (a deeper smoky plum) has been a nice liner for my lips (when applied lightly and blended) and paired with a warmer leaning brown like Merit Taupe

Tools:

  • Tom Ford lip pencil sharpener: I have a couple of these (from his lip liner) and they're hefty. I typically use the Sephora Collection 5 in 1 sharpener (discontinued) but this TF was in a bag I was shopping through and well, that liner (that includes this sharpener) is a splurge so I'm going to get the most out of the sharpener.

  • Otis Batterbee travel brushes - these are pretty good. I purchased these last year (?) but have only used them a couple of times when I've gone out of town, so we're working on getting more use from them.

Fragrance:

  • Boy Smells Fragrance Discovery Set # with their new fragrances. I still have their original discovery set (I did test the scents in that set and picked up a full size). Will be interesting to see how these new ones compare.

There's just the smallest amount left of the Dior setting spray. Aiming to use it up this month but we shall see.
24 - Sleeping Beauties + Shop My Stash 3.jpg

I'm not typically a fan of double ended brushes but this pairing from Otis Batterbee isn't bad at all. The brush side is soft but not too soft; and the sponge is a good size and shape for getting around the corners of my nose, under the eyes, etc.
24 - Sleeping Beauties + Shop My Stash 5.jpg

The "fit" is made possible thanks to the very fun, very roomy 👏 Drunk Elephant makeup bag (from SEPHORiA 2024: Atlanta) - this is such a great bag, both in terms of its functionality and aesthetics. I mean, look at it! The neon orange gives off those spring/summer vibes.

24 - Sleeping Beauties + Shop My Stash 2a.jpg

Look at that - even the brushes fit. I can get the perfume samples to fit as well but prefer to keep them in the box for now.Look at that - even the brushes fit. I can get the perfume samples to fit as well but prefer to keep them in the box for now.

RECAPWeek 22 (The Musical Artist Makeup Capsule) & Week 23 (The Love Is Love Makeup Capsule)

Declutters (?) from weeks 22 & 23Declutters (?) from weeks 22 & 23

Spoiler
🌼 Really only 1 declutter from the previous 2 weeks. The Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Ever So Fresh Eau de Parfum Travel Spray .33 oz / 10 mL # does not agree with me at all - for some reason, this starts and stays almost musk-like on me and I unfortunately do not seem to get the vibrant juicy, tropical fruity-floral notes I was expecting. A case of something just not working out for me.

The formula and consistency of the r.e.m. Beauty Starlet Matte Liquid Eyeshadow (NVM) is very nice - goes on smoothly, no caking or pilling. The issue is with the color - it's too light for my lids. I didn't apply the color directly from the wand so if I can find someone who would be a better match for the shade, it'll be gifted.

🎸 The mascara isn't my favorite but the guitar shape packaging is fantastic. 😍 Will be keeping this as decor.

🍭 The Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Always an Optimist 4-in-1 Mist 1.18 fl oz / 35 mL is fine, but it's not a favorite or one I think to reach for other than to use what I have. That being the case, my plan is keep this around through the end of the year and decide then (or possibly earlier) whether to keep it or gift it to someone. I'm inclined to do the latter but want to give it another go through the summer and fall seasons.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi Oooo a new way to use the glazing milk!! Hmm so you use it before you put the Dior stick on? Or after the foundation stick? I wonder if it would work as well with my merit foundation stick? Is it so good you would purchase it to use it this way!

I have been using my glazing milk every night. I use my eye cream than the glazing milk and then the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Deep Hydration Serum but in the old version. And then the RBC. And I have been walking up with glass skin every day! It’s been so good!!! But adding the glazing milk to my makeup routine could be great too!

Although I am travelling home at the end of the month and it’s very humid there. I may need to change up my routine. Any suggestions?

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@ather, if you use the glazing milk in your skincare routine, I'd continue doing that. Go through skincare routine per usual and when it comes time to doing makeup, then on the back of my hand, I add a little bit of the Rhode Glazing Milk and a few swipes of the DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick # (or any foundation stick, including the MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick ), mix those 2 together and then apply a thin layer of the mix to the face 👍 I've applied this Hailey Bieber hack with my fingers, a beauty sponge, and a foundation brush. For me personally, I prefer applying with my fingers or a foundation blush.

There's an article on Byrdie that includes a review using the LYS Beauty Triple Fix Blurring and Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation Stick - if you do a search for "Hailey Bieber's Glowy Foundation Hack Gave Me Glazed Skin in Seconds" it should pull up a link to the article.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi Ooooo I’ll check this out! And try it! I bet it will make my skin look so dewy!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@ather, yaaaay for travel! I tend to go for lighter products all around (cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens, etc.) when traveling to humid places, but I still do include a more rich moisturizer because my skin will get dry from airplane travel (and if I'm in heavily air conditioned rooms). I also tend to have less products in my routine when I travel to humid climates. If I'm going on longer trip to a humid location, I have a harder time packing "lightly" because I have this thought in the back of my head "what if I need ..." 🤣 I may need to work on getting over that. OR, maybe I need to take more vacations to tropical settings so I can learn what my travel essentials are - now that sounds like a fun homework assignment. I will see if I can narrow it down for a future trip and will post to Travel Essentials - what are your must-haves when traveling? and tag you. Right now, the "must haves" are:

  • oil based cleanser (one that is lighter in consistency)
  • water based cleanser
  • face mist - going to give Tower 28 Beauty Mini SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray with Hypochlorous Acid 1 oz/ 30 mL (gratis) a go on the next trip to humidity 😉
  • serum
  • moisturizer - gel based or oil-free ones are often recommended, but I typically just go for a lightweight moisturizer. For me personally, gel-based ones haven't worked out so well on their own and I end up needing to mix in an oil (yes, even in humdity) because my skin gets really dry from air travel (and if it's business travel, then also heavily air-conditioned conference rooms)
  • SPF - right now, the sunscreen travel team (for humidity) includes:

Summer Fridays ShadeDrops Mineral Milk Sunscreen SPF 30 1.7 oz / 50 mL - thanks so much for recommending this way back when. I like that it's lightweight, easy to spread and absorb, no whitecast and is effective in all climates and conditions. 🐐

LIGHTSAVER Tinted - Activated Mineral Face Sunscreen Broad Spectrum - SPF 33 1.69 oz / 50 ml - this worked well on the last humidity vacay spot. I'm experiencing more redness so this alone won't cover it but it'll reduce its appearance. I'll use concealer or Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation if I feel the need to do so.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Daily Mineral Sunscreen Cream SPF 30 1.7 oz. / 50 ml for body - I picked up some backups when they went on sale and there was a points promo

COOLA Scalp & Hair Sunscreen & Color Protection Mist with SPF 30 is a 🐐 as well either in addition to a hat or on days when I'm not wearing a hat.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi This is a great list! I’m going for 7 days. Not a tropical place but humid! SPF will be a must! Hmm I may try and pack on the lighter side! But I think you’re right. Pack 2 moisturizers one thicker for travel! I thought about bringing some masks. And maybe a couple for my mom to test out too! Me and little man will share a suitcase! I’ll check out the travel thread. I have my hotel overnight bag down to a science. But maybe I’ll get my suitcase out and start to pack and see what I need!! I like to see things.

The "Fits":

The white puffy bag I picked up at a local boutique during a Small Business Saturday sale a year or so ago. The pin I found at a local store as well, though I can't recall when exactly. Had the idea to pair them together the other night. Not everything fit but most did.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@itsfi great capsule collection plus the puffy white bag is sweet

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

@CorgiMommy, thank you. It’s been 23 weeks of great capsules from folks on this thread. Helpful to work through products too. The DIY pouch for the week has worked out well.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

I miss Kevyn Aucoin at Sephora 🥲 @itsfi , And that white puffy bag is so cute 🥰 with the added pin.

This is a solid edit, so I'm curious as to what you left out 🤔

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2025

Same @danielledanielle; same. I like many of the new items that the brand has released since his passing but he had some amazing products too before.

Oh, that puffy bag gets treated with kid gloves; I have a way of getting makeup all over things that are white - bags, clothes, etc. - almost instantaneously after I pull them out to use/wear. It's like a special talent I didn't ask for. 😂

Awww, thank you. My original plan was to do an all Tom Ford makeup capsule, inspired by your Beauty Ice Breakers and the phenomenal job @blackkitty2014 does with panning / using up her TF products. That's one of the things I have in mind for a future "one brand" capsule theme - loved @Mellmars1185's suggestion last year for that one and will be bringing it back before the summer is over. I think I can also do an all MAC capsule, maybe.

Other things I left out included -

  • Kevyn Aucoin contour powder and mascara,
  • some more Makeup by Mario products (I'm somewhat close to being able to do a full face with his line),
  • Patrick Ta blush that is more of a bronzer shade on me,
  • Mara Beauty tinted lip balm,
  • Artist Couture eyeshadow palette,
  • Jason Wu lip gloss, and
  • OleHenriksen sunscreen as primer (it's been a staple for me for a few years in the summer - sun protection, vitamin C and brightening/radiance in one product).

I'm using all Wayne Goss brushes (not mentioned in my original post - ack!) this week but thought about using some MAC and Kevin Aucoin brushes as well.
