Does foundation stain the optical blurring brush bristles?
Ive used it a few times now and when I went to wash it, a lot of the residual foundation came out, but the center of the brush is still severely stained with my foundation. Whenever I wash my Sephora airbrush foundation brush, all the residual foundation comes off and my brush looks perfectly clean and brand new.
Do do the UD optical blurring brushes just stain easier? Any advice on how to make it look new from washing?
Thanks!
Residual "staining" = residual product.
What are you using to clean your brushes? I have 2-3 year old brushes and none of them have permanent staining, and I've used foundations with oils mixed in them. Even my lipsticks don't stain my lip brush if I wash them properly.
I don't use any fancy brush cleaner. For synthetics I mix dish soap + olive oil, and swirl them around. No brush shampoo (even the better beautyblender cleanser) has ever gotten my brushes completely clean without shampooing 2-3 times minimum.
I'm sure if you really get some cleanser in there again and rinse and keep squeezing the water out while running under a tap, it won't run completely clear indicating there's still foundation left on your brush.
To add.. I do use a daily brush cleaner after every use (the spray on wipe off type). Do you use the brush multiple times before any sort of cleaning?
You guys are prob gonna hate me lol.
I do use my brush a few times before cleaning, but the weird thing is my Sephora foundation brush doesn't have any discoloration problems.
I washed my UD brush the exact same way as my Sephora brush. Same foundation. Same length of time not cleaning it lol.
When I washed my UD brush, I brushed it against a bar soap until the water ran clear for a minute. But just in the very center part of the blurring brush still had the color of my foundation @k617
What foundation are you using? I have noticed that UD products stain my brushes and sponges. Everything from the foundation to the eye shadow.
@Mechart, im using tartes 12 hour Amazonian clay foundation. I haven't used/treated/cleaned my optical blurring brush any differently than my Sephora foundation brush.
Mine doesn't stain and I use UD foundation. Sometimes it has a small amount of discoloration left after I clean it daily using a bar cleaner so once a week I use an oil cleanser to remove the stains followed by my regular bar cleanser.
It might just be the brushes then, I have the naked face and shadow brushes and all my colours stained the bristles (I used non UD for my makeup yesterday and same problem). But I did notice that my UD naked foundation and all my UD shadows stained my UD and non-UD brushes too.
angelKiss24 posted about this in the deals too good to pass up thread, but the UD site has the Electric, Vice Ltd XX and Vice 4 palettes on sale.
I'm kind of bummed because I just spent my $10 kickback on the discounted Gwen palette, but I have been eyeing the Electric one for so long! If only I had known.
Also, does anyone know why Sephora doesn't have the Naked Smoky palette online anymore? Are they replacing it with the new matte Ultimate basics?
I've spoken to some SAs and they said they don't think smoky is being discontinued. It could be a push to clear out some stock to make space for the new basics palette?
That makes sense to clear out. I guess I just would have expected it to say oos instead of just be gone? The mysterious ways of Sephora.
the packaging is gorgeous and I definitely seem some shades I love, especially the rust, muddy brown, and the rosy brown but woo $55 seems a lot for this for some reason!
...huh. I guess I will have to go swatch this one before I buy it. These are all darker than I would have thought, looking at the pans. I got excited initially because it looked like this would have a lot of mid-tone shades, which is what I need/use most of. If it's really this dark, I may have to pass.
It might be the swatches. Sometimes they swatch multiple times and it comes out really dark. The promo pic definitely makes it look way lighter. I'm sure with a light hand, it could work. Hopefully more swatches come out to compare
These look very dark- I thought they would be lighter. Hmmm I already have both Basics so I have light enough shades...I will think about it. Not entirely excited either...
I think these swatches are usually highly swaped and they don't necessary represents real swatches. Thats why I like to see these in person.
It is super surprising how dark those swatches look. I definitely wouldn't have expected them to be that way.
Same here, @JazaChai ! I loved the idea of so many light shades in one palette as with bold lips that I do most of the time, I like minimal eyes. And, these looked perfect in those first photos. Now... they look too dark...
I know right? IN the pan at least 5 shades look too light for me, but in this photo above maybe only 2 are...
A closer look
