BIC book club!

Some of us here have expressed an interest in a book club, myself, @mermadelove, @LCResz, @ZombieMetroAnt, @Mcakes. If you'd be interested in joining, reply below. My initial thought was to mail the books around but if it means that some people can't participate, then I'm all for dropping that requirement. I'd love this to be a place where we nominate our favorite book and others can read it and comment. Something fun for the new year!  ETA: the booklist:

Re: BIC book club!

Thx you @greeneyedgirl107 🌹

Re: BIC book club!

Me!🖐🏻Right here!👋🏻 Very interested. Give me the details please. In what order are we going through the list? Are we able to submit a title? This is my summer of Health & Mental Wealth 💕

Re: BIC book club!

@DesiraeMB, love that you are focusing on your health and mental wellness this summer! Welcome! The books listed on the original post were from years back, probably 6+ years ago. You're more than welcome to read any of the books on the list in any order, but there's no need to read any or all of them to participate here. If there's a book you're reading or have finished and you want to share about it (being careful with spoilers), feel free to just jump right on it, whether or not the book is on the list above.

Re: BIC book club!

Ok, so where it’s in bold and written  “Fall of Giants by Ken Follett (9) Start reading now.” that’s old? And no one is reading the same books? I’m trying to understand.

Re: BIC book club!

@DesiraeMB - @itsfi is correct.  I have been involved in the book club from the beginning (2017).  We mostly followed the list, but made changes here and there.  We also stopped before making it to the end of the list.  A few of us started posting books we had or were reading and then others started posting their books as well.  So now the book club is about posting the books you've read, want to read, or asking for recommendations.  We no longer pick a book, read it, then discuss it.

Re: BIC book club!

@DesiraeMB, that is correct. At the time this thread was first started, many worked through the list in the original thread, though not always at the same time as everyone has different schedules and availability of the book varies. Since that time, the thread has been used as a place to share about books BIC members have been reading. As you scroll through some posts on this thread, you'll see that books vary and each person who posts has a different way of talking about the book(s) they've read. "book club" is more of a group of us on BIC who like to read, sharing about the books we've been reading or have finished reading, and less of what would the traditional "book club" set up where there's one book being read by all and then a discussion on that book.

Re: BIC book club!

Interested! I love reading so much and my personal favorites are Glory Be, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and A Walk to Remember!

Re: BIC book club!

I will look these up @KileyRhys . Thx you

Re: BIC book club!

@KileyRhys, those are some good books. We love reading here, too, and are happy to have you join us. Welcome! Have you read the other books in The Summer I Turned Pretty series?

I love the crayon detailing of the cover too @peculiarzmakeup😍

Re: BIC book club!

I know I was so drawn to it (no pun intended 😆)

I felt like the illustration really speaks to the title @itsfi

Re: BIC book club!

Re: BIC book club!

Please join in anytime @dionneandkenni . I got so many good recommendations from these lovelies 😘

Re: BIC book club!

@dionneandkenni, 100% echo @blackkitty2014's response - jump right on in anytime, whether to comment or ask questions about a book someone has mentioned here or to post about a book you've read, or both. It's great to see what others are reading. I've learned about books I've been interested in reading as well as ones I had no idea existed but are on my (ever growing) list of books to read.  📚

The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh
6.2024 The Love of My Life.jpg

Ahhhhh, this one I liked; I really liked. 😍 The commentary from ABC News' Lana Hasan about this book is well stated - "Let's put it this way: if it weren't for work, I would have been able to finish this book in a day."

This novel is held out as a mystery - thriller - suspense - romance - fiction. I was interested in the mystery part and there is something to be solved but it's not like a whodunit type novel. I wouldn't say it's a thriller or a romance though the storyline touches, in part, on what it means to love in a very real and thought-provoking way. This came across my radar because I had picked up the book The Last Thing He Told Me and if you liked that one, you might like this one as well.

The story is well written, with words weaved beautifully together to stir up emotions and move you to think. 💖 I also like that none of the characters are written as perfect - they're flawed, real. I didn't relate very much to the main character, more so with the husband, and it was interesting to read the various events that take place from their respective points of view. 4-1/2 stars. itsfi_0-1717775927844.png

Notable Quotes:
Spoiler
"When we have experienced more loss than is bearable ... we hold on to everything."

"And that second chance was beautiful; more so than I could ever have imagined. My body moved on, my heart loved again.
But there was always a negative space, a shadow on the sand. That is the way with loss: you can't undo it, no matter what you have gained."

"I don't know anything, other than that it's only when something's damaged beyond repair that we realize how beautiful it was."
This is one I would like to see made into a TV series/movie. 📺📽

Re: BIC book club!

My library doesn’t have this at the moment but they have Ghost by the same author. I started with Ghost for now @itsfi 😘
