BIC book club!

Some of us here have expressed an interest in a book club, myself, @mermadelove, @LCResz, @ZombieMetroAnt, @Mcakes. If you'd be interested in joining, reply below. My initial thought was to mail the books around but if it means that some people can't participate, then I'm all for dropping that requirement. I'd love this to be a place where we nominate our favorite book and others can read it and comment. Something fun for the new year!  ETA: the booklist:

Re: BIC book club!

@alexasteph haha, that's me! I read almost exclusively non-fiction, lots of econ, business, and pub policy. I can just picture the book club looking at my list...zzzzzzzzzz...

If you liked Freakanomics, another good read (though it's probably a bit dated by now) is Naked Economics by Wheelan.

Re: BIC book club!

@MissPuff Me too! Haha. I also read books about decision making, the brain, etc. A lot of that ties in to behavioral economics, as well as traditional economics and psychology.  Unless you're interested in those topics, they can be quite boring! I haven't heard of Naked Economics, I'll look it up!

Re: BIC book club!

@alexasteph @MissPuff  Heh, this describes 90% of the books I've spent money on in the last three years! I'm kind of a Richard Thaler fangirl so in a weird way I guess it makes sense that my new hobby is to hang out on BIC constantly 🤓

Re: BIC book club!

Hi @prettyinpa and others. Let me know if you will allow me to participate in a really low-key, slacker type way? I would like to do it but I know this years going to be crazy at times. I’m a huge reader but haven’t picked up much new lately on the kindle and have been re-reading favorites. Anyway, thought I’d ask but don’t want to annoy people if I can’t always join in! Let me know what you think, thanks!

I'll probably follow into this slacker category. I'm goin...

I'll probably follow into this slacker category. I'm going to do my best to keep up. But if I know myself, I'll probably end up falling behind. I promise I'm not slacking, just slow.

Re: BIC book club!

I'm also going to be more of a casual participant @sister13, I have a long list of books I want to read myself too, so I'm going to participate here and there!

Re: BIC book club!

Slackers welcome, I'll send you the link. Please don't feel bad, I'm probably going to be much busier than usual when I can walk without crutches and catch up with all the stuff that's sliding worse than a cow on ice!

Re: BIC book club!

Cool thanks @prettyinpa and @k617!3B9D1828-5E74-4E4C-A3BD-49309B452FDF.gif

Re: BIC book club!

skcfan set up a Google Form for me to edit,  that we all can use, thanks so much for her help!  I'll do any editing I need to and send you all the link tomorrow. Happy New Years Eve Eve!!

Re: BIC book club!

Hi guys, is there room for one more? I finally had enough of a break to read some books and I've missed reading for fun.

Re: BIC book club!

Yep, I'll add you to the list tomorrow AM. @KellW

Re: BIC book club!

I'm more of a LibraryThing than GoodReads user. I understand it's not as popular & free as GoodReads, but I'm rather settled at LT and don't know if I can transfer my library over to GR.

Re: BIC book club!

I heart LibraryThing! I've had an account there since 2005. ❤ 📚

Re: BIC book club!

It looks like Goodreads has access to your email address book to let you know who's on. I'm not comfortable with sharing my address book, I feel that's intrusive, so I vote no.

Re: BIC book club!

What about just a google form? They’re easy to make, and we could inbox everyone the links (so we woundn’t need anyone’s email) for a suggestion form that is free text and then later a voting form with the suggestions from the first form.

They don’t require you to have or log into a google account (unless you click a certain button when creating the form, but it’s not default), and as far as I know no personal information would be shared with the creator of the form (unless you ask for it on the form).

Re: BIC book club!

@skcfan  Great idea!!!

Re: BIC book club!

@skcfan This sounds like a great idea. I am not comfortable sharing my personal info either so I think we try to do it without good reads for BIC .

Re: BIC book club!

If you can share links in PMs this is a great way to do it!

Re: BIC book club!

@fieldsofclover- You can definitely share links in PM's, I've sent friends links to indie brands and sale stuff. I'm strongly leaning towards a Google form, I've asked skcfan if she would help me set one up as I've never done this before.

Re: BIC book club!

I like it. Ideal solution!

This sounds like a great idea, @skcfan!
