Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thanks so much @Mellmars1185! And thank you 😁 for the suggestion to use last of the ND shadows to be panned to set my eye look. I'm also going to try it as a primer to see how that comes along. 🤞

P- 7/327  Goal 80
U- 75/516  Goal 386

Better usage this month. Finally got around to wearing my pan eyeshadows at work. Some things did not see any use. I plan to move the lotion and sol de to my bed and apply them together at bedtime. We'll see how that goes.

3- March Only Progress.jpg

These are the only two that saw any progress since Jan...and it wasn't much.

3- March CT.jpg

Finally saw the bottom, it's starting to dry out faster than it had been so I just started digging.

3- March Discreet.jpg

Not much usage but should be getting better, we'll see once it starts to warm up. One of the area's I'm in is pretty hot and muggy. Same goes for the other shadows.

Spoiler
1- Jan Discreet.jpg I should have tried taking from the same angle.

3- Robbery.jpg

Robbery is moving along nicely, despite the no use in Feb.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian  You are making great progress 🤩

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Woah @Samtian @great job. I need to learn from you to label outside the bottle 😘 I have been working on this skin tint tube and it refuses to die 😂🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@blackkitty2014 Haha I understand that! it was @itsfi who showed me the magic of the tape. I love it.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@blackkitty2014, washi tape is so multi-functional - I love it! I had some from a stationary / planner box I used to subscribe to - they're great for that as well as journaling, making cards, decorations, gift wrapping. When I have more time, I like using washi tape for making backdrops/backgrounds. I got the idea for using them to chart my pan progress from bloggers and others on BIC. @Samtian

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Excellent work on that cream eyeshadow @Samtian - those things seem bottomless! That Robbery shade looks like it will see pan any day now. I’m so excited for you!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you, they definitely are. Well worth the money for sure. I hope so! But maybe not too soon, I really love that shade haha.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Great job!! @Samtian

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster Thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 Hey Hey! Here’s an update on my project:

I ended up deciding to focus on
another Natasha Denona item 🤪. Lately I’ve felt a bit meh about my daily makeup and have been trying different things on the rest of my face so it’s been nice having a palette that doesn’t require much thought. I’ve also been able to easily pull in other palettes when I want to change things up.

phonto.jpeg

This champagne shade is lovely, and I’m impressed by how easy it is to build up or sheer out. Not sure if the dip in this palette translates well in the photo but I anticipate hitting pan in the next couple weeks. The aqua shade on the far left is one that has left me a bit disappointed. For some reason none of my application methods have allowed the shade to look as good as it does in the pan. The texture is unlike any of the other shades and kind of reminds me of the putty-like texture from the Colourpop Super Shock shadows. The brown is a little more cool toned than I prefer so I haven’t used it much so far. I may try to incorporate it in my brows going forward. No major thoughts on the other two shades other than I’m glad the tan color works both under my brow and in the crease without looking chalky.

This Huda palette is one of the ones I reach for when I want to spruce things up. The bottom right shade is more burgundy than brown but it mixes perfectly for my brows. The glitter shades are a bit too chunky and come with a lot of fall out, but they’re gorgeous on the lid. I’m not planning to complete this palette but it could happen.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Both palettes are great for everyday. Congratulations to the amazing progress @ElleElleG 🌹 I need to get back on panning my eyeshadows (any of them would do lol 😂 )

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Agreed @blackkitty2014 ! I desperately need to reduce the amount of time I spend on my face in the morning and these palettes have helped. Added bonus that I'm not bored with the color selection (at least for now 😉). Come back to the dark side and pan those palettes 😅

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Will do @ElleElleG . I need to report my end of quarter status. 🥰

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Great choices!! Can't wait to see the progress @ElleElleG

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

😁 thanks @lmaster

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Ahhhh, look at the dips in that ND palette @ElleElleG😍 Pan in the next couple of weeks? Ahhhh yeaaahh!!! That's awesome! Of the ND mini palettes you've used, are there ones you find yourself liking more than others? Or any favorites?

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

😊 thanks, @itsfi ! Hmm, I think I still like the ND No. 3 5-pan palette that I was working on last year: great color range, all shades were useable (including the shades I didn't enjoy quite as much), and travel friendly. Off the top of my head, I don't think I have any of the other minis but I'll need to dig in my collection and follow up 😁

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@ElleElleG Wow great work! Bummer about that teal shade. Can't wait to see the next pan!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thanks @Samtian ! I'm determined to find a way to make that shade work. At the moment I'm leaning towards scraping the top layer, hmmmm 🤔

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I’m still doing ok at using most of my products at least a few times a week. I had to toss the CT light wonder foundation because it expired. I did almost use it all up though, so I’m very happy about that.
