Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.
| Multiplier | 1 | 1.25 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.25 | 2.5 | 3 | 3.25 | 3.5 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 5 | 7.25 | 7.5 | 8 | 8.25 | 8.5 | 9 | 9.25 | 9.5 | 10 | 10.25 | 10.5 |

I'm guessing you got the MAC 5x too @Luvstravel Wow, great items and like the Benefit bag, the MAC bag looks way better in your pic than the pic on the Ulta site. I really wish Ulta would let us pick our multipliers, I would have gone a bit bonkers ordering if I had that one.
That Benefit bag is nice! 😍
Was just about to post my bags as well! My silver one had 21 items and my hot pink one had 24. I haven't compared to the lists of what I was supposed to receive, but maybe I'll do that later and update. I knew there wasn't terribly much I was interested in anyways, and I've already forgotten which items I wanted, so I'm not terribly concerned about it 😋
Differences in the spoiler. Not surprisingly, one bag is particularly lopsided on the subs
BEAUTY BESTIES (hot pink bag) differences:
-Eliz Arden Retinol Capsules: got plain Ceramide capsules instead
-TCFS Rules of Mastic IX Cream: received Egg Mellow Cream instead
-Alterna Caviar CC Cream was supposed to be a packet, but got a deluxe instead
-Boscia Black Hydration Gel: got Make Up Break Up Cleansing Oil instead
Extra: got John Varvatos EDT sample
Perfectly content with this one. The subs make sense and are equal (or even better)
PARTY CREW (silver bag) differences:
-Devacurl Ultra Defining Gel: got DevaFresh instead
-Clinique Supercharged Concentrate: got 96 Hr Eye Filler instead
-Weleda Skin Food Ultra Rich: got body butter instead
-IT Confidence in a Cream: got Gel-Lotion instead
-Buxom Wanderlust Blush: got lip polish pod sampler instead
I'm fine with the above subs. Now on to the disappointing part...
-No BTS mascara
-No ABH lip gloss
-No Seed Phytonutrients Scalp Mask
-No Vichy Mineral 89
Received but not listed (aka subs for the 4 missing items):
-L'Oreal Colorista hair makeup sample
-La Roche Posay Toleriane moisturizer
Vichy was supposed to be just a packet, but the other 3 missing items are larger (Seed is a packet format, but fairly generous at 0.5oz, and I don't think they do mini bottles anyways? They seem to be very eco-conscious). Two packet samples to cover 4 missing items is...well, sadly, it's very Ulta-like 😕

It looks like the Thanksgiving Hot Buys are up at: ultaDOTcom/featured/thanksgiving_hotbuys
Ooohhh Kiko Milano is on sale. I've been eyeing their mascara for a while now. I wish Mad Hippie was going to be on sale also. I've fallen in love with their Vitamin C serum - it's fantastic for anyone looking for a good Vitamin C that's fairly inexpensive and has dry/sensitive skin.
Can't wait to see what the discounts will be! I saw a few things I might decide to grab if the price is right 😛 It's a fairly small selection at 382 items (considering Friendsgiving was over 3k items), but I think it's a pretty nice mix, and not all the same-old-same-old stuff that seems to populate many events (except maybe the Hask lol)
@itscarin @RGbrown @ohheyitscindyk and all other beautiful Ulta veterans... On Cyber Monday $10 off $50 promo, does that include prestige or drugstore only?
And in general, is there usually more bang for the buck to shop non-flyer items on Black Friday or on Cyber Monday? Not factoring in the Ulta GWP with $60 purchase, as it doesn’t interest me at the moment.
Thank you!
@civ2ru The coupon code was for non-prestige items. Non-prestige includes some prestige hair tools, like T3 or Drybar tools, but it won't work on Drybar products.
In terms of getting the most mileage out of your money, I think there's no difference between the two days -- they both had offers for certain products, but there was no overall offers like coupons or multipliers.
I think it just depends on what you're looking for. If there's a palette, for example, that you want, and it goes on sale Black Friday, just buy it then because I don't think there's any guarantee that it will still be on sale or available come Monday, or that there will be any advantage for you waiting until Monday to purchase it.
If you are looking to rack up points, I'd wait until the first Thursday of December for a targeted "pick you day" points multiplier. They will let you pick your day to get 5/4/3x points. Last year it started 12/6 and it went through 12/24. There was also a day where they had 7/5/3x points. You could combine your 5x with the 7x and get 11.5x total (if you're diamond).
I'm still trying to figure out what the best strategy for me is. I'm sitting on 4k points right now. Since we can't earn points on points anymore, I believe it only makes sense to use points when there's a 20% off coupon, or when there's a $175 buy in bag I really want.
Unrelated, but if you're looking for any dryer stuff, bloomingdales has several dryer items 50% off -- including products and tools. 50% off is a better deal than what you're going to get at ulta, unless you got super lucky and got a 10x multiplier to earn points, and then a 20% off coupon for the drybar item.
@itscarin I was just thinking about our conversation regarding Black Friday the other day... Boy, Ulta sure threw the old rule book right out the window this year, didn’t they? (Plus those sweet website glitches). Sephora should be very afraid.
@itscarin Thank you for that detailed answer! I think I’ll just buy the ad flyer stuff I’m actually interested in and hold off on the non-sale stuff until there is more incentive come December.
And you’re right, it does seem that your hard-earned points would go farthest when you have a 20% coupon. And a great GWP, preferably at the same time (I love how you can get BOTH at Ulta!). Otherwise, you’d probably be trying to rack up more points instead.
On another unrelated (or maybe related) note, a great way to save money at Ulta that I haven’t heard anyone mention lately... Shopkicks! Redeeming those for Ulta gift cards earns cash back AND points AND spend status on all purchases. Do you Shopkick? I imagine so, as deal savvy as you are...
Anyway, thanks again!
