Let's keep this thread on topic!
Ulta points refresher (because yes, it is that complicated):
Item #1 - $53.50
Item #3 - $108.50 (and is eligible for a certain item/brand 5x multiplier)
* There is also a 5x all purchase multiplier and you are platinum so you get 1.25x
Total Spent - $162
Base Points Earned - 162
Platinum .25x Earned - 41 (162 * .25 = 40.5, and rounding up)
5x All Purchases Earned - 648 (it ends up being 4x because you don't count the base points)
5x Item/Brand Earned - 434
Total Points Earned - 1285
Links are not allowed. In lieu of links, please read this:
Please add product id numbers and sku numbers so people can find items on ulta.
Just to clarify, there is an item number that Ulta lists on the website, right under the picture of the item.
The product id is the number given to the item in the URL. So Ulta's site follows this formula of having the url and then the very last part of the url is "productId=xlsImpprod" followed by an 8 digit number. If you use that "productId" number you can get to the page of any item on ulta.
It's not a search, but the direct url to the page.
Click on any product, and then view the url in the address bar. It will look like this: ulta's website (not using the actual domain because BT admins don't like that) /prep-prime-fix?productId=xlsImpprod15921204 Replace the 8 digit product id of the item you want to see with the id of the product you're looking for.
My very unofficial Ulta point multiplier to approximate percent discount chart:
(This is a number where I use the multiplier to divide by 2000 to see how many dollars I would have to spend in order to redeem a $125 reward. E.g. 2000 points divided by 1 point multiplier means I have to spend $2000 to get the $125 reward. Adding how much I had to spend ($2000) + the reward ($125), and then using the reward ($125) to divide the total purchase ($2125), I get a discount of approximately 6% based on the total purchase. Note: the total purchase is based on the concept that you are spending just enough to reach the next $125 reward and combines the reward value with how much money you had to spend to get that reward.

This may be stupid, but....
If I place an order and pay by points, does that order count towards my status?
No, only paying with cash/card or a gift card counts.
Makes sense; sort of figured that but thought I would check. Thanks.
I wasn’t really going to buy anything but the Nars palettes were 30% off. I really just wanted the Nars palette and the nail art kit but then it was almost $50 so I figured I should just cash in some points so I upped the order to $125 and then I was just so close to the $150 gwp so I threw the bon bon shower gel in there for the 5x points and the 200 point bonus on $25.
Ulta says I earned 254 points but I think it should be more. Of my $150 order $125 was paid for with points, so the remaining $25 I spent should be eligible for all the standard offers. The shower gel was $23.97 which is 5x because it’s the fragrance of the month. 23.97*5.5=131. 131+200(bonus points) = 331.
I spent $25.46 pre tax out of pocket. 25.46-23.97=1.49. 1.49*1.5=2.
331+2=333, which is how I would calculate the points. Anyone have any idea where the discrepancy may lie?
Anyway, pretty proud of the fact that I got the total up to the bare min necessary for the gwps by only going over by 46 cents! 😂
Do you have an example? I've never seen multipliers that don't stack, and can confirm I got 5x for Bonbon + the 200pt bonus for spending over $25 yesterday.
I'll second the other answer...now that Ulta has killed earning points when redeeming points, the points you used were prorated against the Bon Bon shower gel, reducing your earnings on it. I am way too lazy to do the math myself, but @anabelle's numbers make sense to me, so I'll endorse them 😊
(Dangit Ulta, why you gotta be stingy 😐)
@RGbrown That kind of changes things for me. I know it's only a difference of about 100 points, but IDK, I don't really want the shower gel if it's not coming with all the points.
I could have just as easily purchased the shower gel separately, received my 5x points for that, and added another little $2 item to my cart to hit the $25 threshold for 200 extra points. I'm going to have to think long and hard about what the new offer is
New offer is 254 points for $25.46. 254 - 200 bonus points = 54 points for spending 25.46. $1.49 at normal 1.5x = 2 points so I got 52 points for $23.97 which should've been 5x but ended up being like 2.16x. The principal here just sucks.
Yeah, it's definitely a shift in how we have to look at deals now. In the end, I calculate a difference of roughly 80 points ($5) for the shower gel (23.97 x 5.5 = 131/132, minus the 52 you actually earned on this transaction), so...it's not a terrible loss, but those points add up and it makes a difference. It's frustrating.
Of course, just looking at one item in a detailed view doesn't always give the full picture either. NARS was the first item you were going for, and it all cascaded around that. If you had done the shower gel separately, would you have even bothered with going in for a $150 transaction as well, for NARS and the gwps, with another $25 oop? For the $25 you spent, you still walked away with a very nice haul with a bunch of freebies, well more than $5 worth. Are those extras worth the 80 points to you in the end?
@itscarin I spent exactly 25.46 yesterday, which included the same shower gel and a $1.49 hair mask. I received 333 points for the order, but I didn’t redeem any points. I think that Ulta applies redeemed points across all of the products, which would have included the shower gel. Based on the number of points Ulta says you earned, it appears they applied approximately $19.91 in points toward the shower gel and gave you the 5.5x multiplier on the remaining $4.06. If that’s the case, you would’ve earned approximately 22 points for the shower gel, plus approximately 32 points for the remaining 21.4 spent out of pocket, plus the 200 bonus points.
