Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

Hello, BIC! 👋 This is the third year of the Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge. Whether you're looking for a fun way to use the new-to-you and tried-and-true products in your collection or if having a set of makeup products picked out in advance makes it easier to get ready in the mornings, welcome!

Please don't hesitate to jump right on in from the get-go, or feel free to take part during a week when the theme suits your style or piques your interests. We love seeing and being inspired by what beauties everyone is using.

▶️  NOW PLAYINGCURRENT Makeup Capsule Theme: [Updated 2.1.2026]

Week 5 (February 2 - 8 ) - The Black Founded/Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule and/or The "Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Inspired" Makeup Capsule
Curate a capsule with one or more products from any of the following (or any combination of the following):
  • a black founded or owned makeup brand in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Black History Month; and/or
  • an Italian makeup brand in honor of the host country for the 2026 Olympics / Paralympics; and/or
  • a makeup brand representing the spirit of the Olympics / Paralympics, sponsoring the Olympics / Paralympics, or endorsed by an athlete competing in the Olympics / Paralympics; and/or
  • a makeup brand from one or more country/countries represented at the Olympics / Paralympics.

(Optional)  In keeping with last year's capsules, we'll have on occasion, an optional month-long capsule theme for anyone interested. Like last year, February will be the first month with an optional month-long theme. For those interested, either in addition to the weekly themes this month or in lieu of any one or all of the weekly things, incorporate one or both themes from Week 5 into the weekly capsules for February. You can use the same capsule, or curate a new one every week, or add new products (based on a Week 5 theme whether or not that product was included in Week 5) into the then current week's theme.

Spoiler
Below is a non-exhaustive list of brands that have a portfolio primarily focused on makeup falling within the week's theme(s). There will undoubtedly be others and some that I've missed (apologies in advance); this list is again non-exhaustive. If there's a brand in your collection that falls within one or both themes, we'd love to see it / them in your capsule(s). Brands with an asterisk (*) next to its names are available in store or online at Sephora US or Sephora at Kohl's. If the founder or owner of the brand is not readily distinguishable by the brand name, that information is noted in parens next to the brand name.

What is a makeup capsule?

A makeup capsule is a collection of makeup products curated by you with the intent of simplifying your makeup routine without compromising quality or functionality. It typically includes essential products that can be used to create a variety of look. A makeup capsule can reduce clutter, help save time getting ready in the morning or for events, and provide you with a streamlined and versatile makeup wardrobe tailored to work for you, your budget and lifestyle. While makeup capsules generally include a few pieces, the size of your capsule collection is ultimate up to you.

Why a makeup capsule challenge?

Many of us here have a robust collection of makeup and it can be difficult to pare that down to a handful of pieces for capsule. This challenge, with its weekly themes, is meant as a fun way to try your hand at curating a makeup capsule for yourself. Each week you'll have an opportunity to go through your collection, identify one or more product(s) that fits the weekly theme (all you need is one product for this challenge), and put together a makeup look with that and other products.

The challenge is also another way to use your stash, allowing you a chance to discover products you might have missed out on or re-discover past favorites.

@danielledanielle Reading your post reminded me that I smelled the World of Chris Collins Lust Oud Delice Parfum with Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut and Orris 1.7 oz / 50 mL... at one point and meant to pick it up.  I can smell the memory of it and I think it would be perfect for a Valentines gift to myself!

Thanks for the inspo!!

Oooouuuh, that set of Fenty brushes @danielledanielle  😍😍😍 The size of that diamond ring always makes me smile and chuckle 💍😆💗

Six-ish, that works. Your capsule is just 'extra' when it comes to minimalism.

  • I know most folks rave about her eyeliners but for me, it’s her eyeshadow sticks that are the standouts among her eye products. This Caramel shade is probably the best mix of two of my longstanding favorite eyeshadow stick shades, Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Stick Golden Bronze and Thrive Causemetics Infinity Waterproof Eyeshadow Stick Dr. Q. Having just written that, I think I may sift through my bin and destash my collection of whatever backups I have of both those products. 🤔
  • The color of the r.e.m. x Wicked eyeshadow is a beautiful color (and has a pretty shift that doesn't show up in the pic) but my word!!! the fallout of the glitter in this one is too much. I didn't apply the product from the applicator directly onto my lids or with the applicator at all so I can / will  pass this along to someone.
  • GXVE BY GWEN STEFANI Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner Bathwater (gratis) is not one I reach for often but it's nice to have something fun to use every so often. Gel pencils, even waterproof ones, don't typically last long on my oily lids but these GXVE liners hold up pretty well, so much so that I actually purchased one in another shade.

4 - Musician Founded E-1.jpg

Of these complexion products, the standouts were:

  • about-face The Performer Foundation - lightweight, natural finish, wears comfortably. Good shade range and offers some great selections for olive undertones. Need to exercise extra care when pulling the oversized doe foot applicator from the smaller sized (or possibly regular sized) opening.
  • Victoria Beckham by Augustinus Bader The Concealer Pen - my undereyes benefit from skincare and makeup done right in this concealer pen
  • HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-puffing Concealer with Fermented Arnica is a Top Shelf concealer for me; the skincare makeup combo of this formulation works well for my  blemishes and redness
  • The other items are alright - I’m just not that into priming moisturizers and the golden tint on this VBB one is both too warm and too yellow-orange gold for my skin to wear on its own. I mix a pump or two with lighter foundation shades to get a better shade match. There are just other setting sprays that perform better for me than the RB one. I’ll finish this bottle but will not repurchase. JLo’s serum isn’t bad but it’s not a must have from her line for my skin. Her sheet mask, on the other hand, if you can get it at a good sale, is worth considering for those with drier skin.

January Declutter - 4

1.2026 Empties 6 - Declutters.jpg

  • While I do have a tendency to hoard certain makeup products, I like to think I take a sensible approach to getting rid of items that are near the end of their shelf life or that are just a smidge past it - I stay pretty true to expiry dates and PAO guideliness for SPF and actives, and products containing them, and mascara, for the most part. Most everything else takes into consideration a combination of factors - generally accepted shelf life and  stated expiration date and PAO, if any, all subject to sight, smell and performance tests. These two L'Oreal color mascaras I've kept for a little longer than the 6 month PAO timeline, in large part because they didn't smell back and continued to perform well and I was pretty meticulous with always using a disposable mascara wand with these - I have a lot of disposable mascara wands I want to use up so they come in handy with keeping products as hygienic as possible. BUT it is definitely time to bid adieu to these beauties. 🗑 They're good products. If I were to buy another color mascara, I'd probably just get them in the YSL or Sephora Collection version as my experience with those formulations is that their tinted mascaras show up on my very dark lashes (and last without smudging or flaking).
  • These two liquid liners did not work for me and are an example of just because one product in a brand is a holy grail or Top Shelf product for you doesn't mean other products from the same brand will be as well. Both these liquid liners come from Asian beauty brands that make mascaras that are tops in my book and among many beauty aficionados - Clio (Korean) and Heroine Make by Kissme (Japan). I love pandas, have since I was a kid; they can be cute. I personally though don't look cute with panda eyes and make every effort to avoid that look. Both these liners give those panda eyes look too easily and too quickly. 🗑

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@itsfi , oh noooo the kissme 🐼 you?  😞 Onto the next one, for science 🔭🙌🏽

I like all the musically inclined pairings.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@danielledanielle, yeah, that took me by surprise. I have another liquid liner of theirs and am hoping it will perform better. Yes, the things we do for science. 😝

WEEK 4: The "Musical Artist Founded / Owned Beauty Brand" Makeup Capsule

I didn't expect to have so many music artist founded/owned products. But it turns out I'm somewhat devoted to three ladies and their products in particular: Rhianna's Fenty Beauty, Selena Gomez's Rare Beauty and Lada Gaga's Haus Labs.

I rounded up what I have and here's the pile (products and some opinions in the spoiler below - apologies as this picture photographed pretty dark and does not do justice to the shades - if you'd like a swatch of anything let me know and I'm happy to oblige):

SECOND ROW LEFT TO RIGHT: RARE BEAUTY:

THIRD ROW LEFT TO RIGHT: HAUS LABS:

I'm really OK with a pop of leopard and these all fit nicely in a pouch I have with room to spare:

IMG_2285.jpeg

Key take aways for me looking through these products? Always check out the Fenty Website before assuming a product is gone if it's not on Sephora. Slow down on jumping on cream blush formulations from Rare Beauty and check out more of their powder products. But, continue to rely on all three lines for great shade selections!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@PDXXXX, lovely band 😉 of beauties. I'm slowly making my way through my powder blushers and don't need another, buuuuut, since you have the Haus Labs and Rare Beauty Worth in your collection, I know they're different textures, but do you have a preference between the two in terms of formula or color payoff? I have and like Worth, pondering whether to add one of the new shades or a HL powder blush to my list.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

Ooh..tough call @itsfi! They're both great matte blush products w/the main difference being the HL is more sheer/buildable as opposed to the immediate punch you get with the RB. If you have any of the Gucci blushes I would say the HL is more comparable to that. I think for me it would come down to shade preference? Luckily both lines have nice shades so I would say you can't go wrong.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

Week 4 -  The "Musical Artist Founded / Owned Beauty Brand" Makeup Capsule

4 - Musician Founded A.jpg

I didn't think I had as many makeup products that fell within this theme as I do, but clearly there's been a few musicians entering the beauty biz in the past few few years. My makeup capsule this week could make up an all girl band.

Product Details: I'll upload a separate post with more detailed notes/thoughts on the products later this week. Playing a little catch up with posts and with working my way through everything in this capsule.

Complexion:

  • Primer: I thought I'd be without a primer this week and then stumbled on this deluxe sample of JLo Beauty That JLo Glow Serum so we'll use that for a primer. I was actually looking to see if I had one of her sheet masks left to use as pre-makeup skin prep - I wouldn't necessarily run out to buy it when compared to other sheet masks on the market, but of everything in her skincare line, that was the item I repurchased when it was at Sephora, and on sale ... and when I used sheet mask more often than I do now. If the serum doesn't pan out as a primer, I have another bottle of the Victoria Beckham by Augustins Bader Priming Moisturizer (Original) that can fit the bill.

  • Foundation: about-face THE PERFORMER Skin Focused Foundation - I've been impressed by several of the products from about-face (by Halsey). Learned about the foundation from @missjeanie a few years back. Coverage is more than i typically wear on a day-to-day basis but it sheers out easily; her shade range and undertone selection is good. The doe foot applicator on this one is oversized and the opening through which it has to pass could be sized better given its size - removing it can be a challenge and get messy so go slowly. I'll mix a pump of the Victoria Beckham by Augustinus Bader Priming Moisturizer (Golden) with the foundation to add a little more warmth and color (and to help me use up the last bit of the VB product).

Eyes

  • Primer: about-face Shadow Fix Eye Shadow Primer is my second favorite eyeshadow primer after the OG, NARS Pro-Prime

  • Brow: this will be my first time using the Victoria Beckham Beauty FeatherFix browl gel

NOTE: Today will be my first day wearing eye makeup (other than brows) in maybe a week - I moved on from my cold fairly quickly in terms of the congestion but I burst a blood vessel or vein in my eye as a result of blowing my nose too hard and have just been waiting for all that to resolve itself. That said I'll be taking my sweet time easing into it and just doing an eyeshadow or liner a day - so that there's less need to rub my eyes more to remove the makeup at the end of the night.

Cheeks:

Lips:

Fragrances: I've been wearing together or on their own Fenty Beauty by Rihanna The Mista Hair + Body Fragrance Mist 3 oz/90 mL or Fenty Skin Vanilla Flowers Body Mist

The "Fits": I kept getting messages about the gwp pouch from VBB but before even "window shopping" her site, I rummaged through my things just to check and ... sure enough, I had one of them already, from an earlier promo gwp. This velvet green pouch holds a lot, muuuuuch more than the bag that is typically included with her products.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@itsfi That is a fun collection challenge!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

Thank you @Samtian; it's one of the themes I look forward to every year. A few of the brands are ones that I would definitely say are not just good makeup brands by a musician but good makeup brands period.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

WEEK 3, ROUND 2: SIX PRODUCTS FROM ONE MAKEUP LINE (A/C)

So I decided to combine this week's "C" (showing all of our products in one brand) and "A" (less than 6 products) for a second round at week 3 to help me get a better idea of how much Dior I'm hanging onto and then get it down to my "top 6 Dior products."

As you can see, I have a little Dior problem particularly when it comes to their lip and highlight offerings:

IMG_2172.jpeg

Spoiler

PRODUCTS:

Foundations: Diro Hydranude Foundation 1N (currently still available on Dior website), DIOR Dior Forever Skin Glow Hydrating Foundation in .05N and O, DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 0N and DIOR Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-Use Foundation Stick in ON,

Eyes: DIOR Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara 090 Black , Dior Stylo/Eyeleniner in Matte Chocolate, Dior Mono Coleur in Tulle (available on Dior website), Dior Diorshow 5 Coulers in Grand Bal (available on Dior Website), Dior 5 Couleurs Brown Cashmere (discontinued/limited edition),

Bronzers & Highlighters: DIOR Forever Nude Jumbo Bronzer 10 , Dior Blush Color and Glow in 100 Contour Glow, DIOR Forever Glow Luminizer Highlighter 02 and 01 Nude Halo.

Lips:
- Dior Addict Longwear in 100 x 2

- DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 018 Intense Spice and 204

- DIOR Dior Addict Lip Tint in 251, 321, 581, 541, 491 and 771 (some of these are the discontinued shades before the reformulation)

- DIOR Lip Glow Butter Hydrating Gloss Balm 103 Toffee and DIOR Lip Glow Butter Hydrating Gloss Balm 104 Black Cherry

I was happy to find that I could fit all of these in this somewhat compact case from Eacho (I found this on Amazon and am kind of loving it. It comes in a plethora of colors and folds from a rectangular cube down flat:

IMG_2179.jpegIMG_2178.jpeg

Now for "The Six." This was difficult as what I really love is how the lip colors layer, so theoretically while I've chosen one combo it's not better so much as a testament to how well the stains and glosses layer. If I *really* had to chose I'd go with something black cherry - I feel like that color never fails whatever the formulation.

Spoiler
THE PRODUCTS:
-DIOR Diorshow Waterproof Mascara Catwalk Black (I haven't used this for a long time and this was a nice reminder why it's a classic),
- Dior Five Couleurs Eye Shadow in Grand Bal (this one is unique to me because but for the black/brown shadow in the center these are all very sheer satin/sparkly shades and get you a nice silver, gold and peach/nude shimmer in one palette),
-Dior Rouge Blush and Glow in 100 Contour Glow,
-Dior Forever Skin Perfect 24H Multi-use Foundation Stick in ON (my new favorite by far of their foundations, it also works well as a concealer,
- DIOR Dior Addict Lip Tint in 541 Natural Sienna (this shade is not available on Sephora but it is gooooorgeous), and
- DIOR Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss 018 Intense Spice .

These fit nicely in this pouch I've had for awhile that feels very Dior to me:

IMG_2200.jpeg

This one took some time but it was worth it for me. I've already thrown out two foundations that were the wrong shade from this collection. And it's really helped me hone in on the products within the Dior lineup that are actually worth the Dior cash.

I'll be posting my "Dior 6" look in What are you wearing in 2026?? today. And please, by all means if I can swatch any of these products for you let me know!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@PDXXXX, this is a lovely collection of Dior beauties. That tan makeup case holds a lot. I have it (or something very similar to it) in a couple of colors / prints and have occasionally considered picking up another one. A couple of folks here have them too - "somewhat compact" is a good way to describe the size. 😅 Ooouh, the Dior lip tints look so nice lined up here - do you have all the shades?

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

I really do like the design of that organizer & can see why I'm not the only one @itsfi ! I saw that it comes in a larger size as well and was, like, do I need that?! They're up to 13 shades of the Dior lip stain now, it's crazy! A couple of mine are from before the reformulation. Luckily at this point the only other color I'm tempted by is Natural Tea (I think the Natural Sienna I have is my fave). Cutting down to 6 selections was a fun exercise and made me realize I can definitely be more savvy with my Dior buys - that stick foundation though (I know we've talked about it ) has been such a nice surprise...my wallet is just very lucky they haven't released any of the serum foundations they used to do!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

"do I need that?!"

(without hesitation): yes, yes you do, @PDXXXX😂 I was actually thinking I wanted one in a smaller size too. It would be nice to have these in various sizes, kinda like those vanity train cases of years past that are making a comeback (or that are / have been trending).

Oh, are they up to 13 now?! I tend to overlook the lip tints on the Dior site and at the non-Sephora counters for some reason, no idea why. The Sephora stores by me only stock a few of the shades, like 5, maybe. Oh, I am recalling Natural Tea, but will have to make a note to check if I have it. Natural Sienna sounds like it would be such a pretty color. You tried both the older and reformulated versions? Do you have a preference or do you find them to be comparable?

I would support Dior bringing back their serum foundation ... at some point, because I'm all for giving wallets a break, too. 😅 I've been very pleased with all the stick products Dior has released - the foundation, the contour stick, and I tested the new bronzer one and it glides on so smoothly!!! They did a blush stick in the lipstick packaging last year so I wonder if a highlighter stick will be coming soon? 🤔

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026

@itsfi I feel like the new lip tint formulation is less drying but does take a little more time to set. Other than that the biggest change was it used to have a doe foot applicator and now does not (irked me at first but I've gotten used to it).

Oh my gosh; a Dior cream highlighter stick sounds amaaazing! I vote yes! I'm going to try to forget you gave such a good review on the other sticks though for now, lol.
