Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

2026 has arrived and so has YEAR NINE (9) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

20262026

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Spoiler
Spoiler
These are all much easier to mark and see progress.
-BB Hairdressers Oil Fragrance-- I normally prefer to just wear whichever fragrance I choose that day, but I'm going to treat this as any other body spray.  I've used it a handful of times and will try to do so more often so that I can see I'm on track to finish the bottle by years end.  I know that since it's out and in my line of sight there's a better chance of this.
-JVN Air Dry Cream.  This is okay... I think I prefer the BB cream to make my ahir just a bit softer, as it's less finicky to use as well.  I have to be careful with the JVN not to apply too much.  That said, I made great progress this month and hope to finish it off in February.
-Thayers Milky Toner.  I swear this suds up when I apply it.
-Tower 28 Tinted SPF.  I thought I'd have this done in January as a gimmie product but I took the month to finish off a different base product.  I have already noticed that I need to bend the tube to get product out so I'm guessing it won't be long before I cut into the tube.  This also expired in December of 2025 so it's no longer used as an SPF, but just a tinted base.

Spoiler
-P&L Eye Cream.  I did use this a few times, but I'm just horrible for remembering to use an eye cream.
-Skylar mini fragrance.  This is about half the size of a travel size fragrance.  I should be able to get through it, but I just wasn't feeling motivated on this.
-The SC lip stain/scrub is fine.  It doesn't really stain at all.  I've been using it once or twice a week.  Will keep on keeping on.

Spoiler
-Farmacy Lip Mask.  I like this formula well enough, I've gone through a few different flavours before.  I've used this every night before bed and can see some progress but I'm going to try using it from one spot to better be able to see that progress.
-Farmacy Honey Face Mask.  I've been using this once a week.  I actually really enjoy the warming sensation, but dang this pot is going to take a long time to finish.
-Becca Blush.  I've used this everyday in January that I wore makeup and I'm quite surprised at how much I enjoy this shade!  I'll be happy to use this and use it up.  Hard to see progress in the pot though.
-Ulta Shadow Trio.  I do actually see a wee dip in the matte mauve shade.  I dont see this being finished in a year, but heres to trying!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Seeing some progress in some areas, and slow to no in others. Which I expected. I started with a serum that is turning into an hg and don't want to finish the sample haha! But the first time this year I went to use the UD Framed I got pan!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Woohoo, congratulations on the pan, @Samtian !! What's the serum?

January Progress Report
Pan It 2026.jpg
Monthly Summary:
Not too bad of a start to the pan it! challenge. I caught a bug mid-month and hit "pause" for a few days, with eye makeup experiencing a longer hold. Saw some movement on a couple products that I wasn't really expecting so that's a nice motivator going into next month.

January All Stars
  • Surprised by the Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Icy Sherbet Primer - I'm actually enjoying it, which may make it more challenging to narrow down my collection of face primers to all but a small handful by year's end.
  • I'm very pleased with the traction on the CdP The Foundation. The numbers on the scale doesn't look like much movement but a little goes a looooong way with that product so a change in 2g is actually more than it sounds.
  • I've been going through the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner 606 Wherever Walnut more quickly than I expected. A few reasons for that - (1) I really like the color and formula - I know, I know, I really late coming on board the MUFE lip liner train. (2) After learning from @haleyvvvv and @danielledanielle  (thank you, ladies!) about sharpening lip liner with every (or almost every) use, I've been trying to remember to do so, but also keeping and using the shavings, and that, in turn, has meant more movement for this lip liner.

February's Focus
I've only provided updates for 7 out of the 10 makeup items in my pan challenge this month. The other 3, namely, the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Bronzing Drops, the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette Palette 1: Light to Me... and the Prada Prada Monochrome Soft Matte Blur Lipstick B106 CARAMEL saw little to no use in January. Le sigh. 😞 I'll look to change that, particularly with the latter two items. The bronzing drops are probably something I'll start reaching for with more frequency in the spring, but I'll try to make an effort to use it on the weekends to warm up a couple of foundation in my collection that are a slightly lighter than my current shade match. Next month's progress report will probably just focus on those three items and any of the other products that see noticeable or noteworthy progress.

Cle de Peau The Foundation
The scale needed a lot of calibrating but after fussing with it for a while, I decided to just deal with recalibrating the scale another day and reconciling the figures, if needed, in my head. Like I mentioned in the earlier comment, the number on the scale make it look like a little movement, but those 2 units actually count for a lot more product than one would think, especially given that I don't really use that much product per use. I did reach for this foundation with more than usual this month so future months will likely see less movement on the scale. Note: It took me a year to finally put this scale to use but I'm so glad I did, especially for something like this, where you can't see how much product is being used from the outside of the jar and it's difficult to gauge where to mark the component just by eyeballing how much product is in the containerl. Huge thanks to @Samtian for the idea and inspo - this will make it so much easier to track progress on this foundation this year!

1.2026 Dior.png
DIOR Forever Nude Matte and Radiant Pressed Powder (mine is from a long discontinued palette)
It's impossible to tell from the photo but we're making a little progress. No noticeable indentation in the product but the Cannage print on this powder is fading away more and more every time I use it. 👍

1.2026 Laneige.png
We're getting there, slowly but surely. 🐢

1.2026 MUFE.jpg

Top is the liner I'm using. Bottom is another MUFE liner, same shade. Both were from SEPHORiA 2023 NYC. This is the surprise hit for the month; I did not expect to be this far along with the liner. That said, it has been a go-to this month.

1.2026 Touch In Sol.jpg
Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Icy Sherbet Primer
Another slow and steady one this year ...

1.2026 Tower 28.jpg
If you look very, veeeeery closely (and maybe squint your eyes ever so slightly), the brand's logo is slowly becoming less pristine with each use. 😅 It's a stretch I know but me, powder blush and panning projects are a challenging (though not impossible) combination.

1.2026 YSL.jpg
The beginnings of a sliver of a dip in the bottom right shadow. 🙌

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

No, I can totally see usage in the Tower 28 blush, @itsfi !! And the foundation, pressed powder, lip liner, lip mask, primer, those eyeshadow dips!! You're killing it so far!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi I wish I could take credit, but someone else was already using a scale when I joined in. I zeroed in on that YSL dip instantly.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@ElleElleG  thank you for starting this year's Pan It! thread!

This year, I am only a little late in getting started with my Pan It! project (instead of several months late).😅 Here's hoping I can stick with it throughout the year and actually make some progress! 🤞

For 2026, I was inspired to try @itsfi 's approach and choose 10 items to work on for my project (although some of my 10 items are actually a whole category of items...but, close enough 😅 ). Unlike in previous years, at least for now, I'm also planning on only including panning-related goals, not use-related goals (so "do nails" or "do makeup look" or "light candle" however often, etc. will still be general beauty collection goals of mine, but I won't be including them in this project).

My 2026 Pan It! project items:

Glossier Milky Jelly Gentle Gel Face Cleanser 6 oz/177 mL (mini) (carryover from 2025 project) - goal: finish

COSRX ABC Toner (mini) (carryover from 2025 project) - goal: finish

20260109_153305-01 (1).jpeg

Since these are close to being done and are mini size, hopefully I'll be able to finish both of these fairly soon; I have backup items picked out to replace each of them once they're finished.

lip balms (~105) - goal: finish at least 12, or one per month? (I may reevaluate this goal depending on how quickly I'm able to get through these)

20251119_054617-01 (1).jpeg

Yes, I have waaaay too many lip balms 😬 I was actually shocked by how many I had when I did my inventory 🙈 so I'm hoping to use up as many as I can this year!

hand creams (45 + 1 foil) - goal: finish at least 8-12? (I may reevaluate this goal, depending on how quickly I'm able to get through these)

20260110_182639-01.jpeg

I have way too many hand creams also...

Function of Beauty Hair Mask (carryover from 2025 project) - goal: finish

20260109_153330_capture-01 (1).jpeg

I made a tiny bit of progress on this last year, but I mostly forgot to use it - I don't use hair masks as often as I'd like. I'm hoping I can remember to use it regularly this year and finally finish it off.

Glossier Stretch Concealer for Dewy Buildable Coverage (G12 - discontinued/old shade) (carryover from 2025 project) - goal: finish

20250422_055639-01.jpeg

I can't find this at the moment, so this progress pic is from last year. It should be fairly accurate though, since I don't think I made that much progress after taking this photo. Hopefully I can finally finish this one off this year, too.

fragrance samples I already have full size and/or travel sizes of (15) - goal: finish

20260110_183307.jpg

One of the areas of my beauty collection that is most out of control is my fragrance samples - I literally have hundreds 😵 and somehow, I keep accumulating more 😅 I'm hoping to use all of these up and free up a bit of space in my collection. If I manage to finish all of these before the end of the year (which I hope I will), I'll decide which of my samples to prioritize using up next.

candles - goal: get current collection down to one box instead of two

I didn't inventory my candles, so I'm not sure of the exact number, but I have quite a lot - two big boxes full right now. I have been keeping them separated by seasons - spring + summer scents in one box, fall + winter scents in the other - and the current season's box is kept in my room, while the other stays in the basement. My goal is to use up at least half of my current stash, so that I can consolidate my remaining candles into just one box.

foils - goal: use 5-10 per month? (I may reevaluate this goal once I've had a chance to see how many I typically get through in a month)

I was too lazy to gather and inventory all of my foils (I currently have them stored separately according to category of product), so I'm not sure of the exact number, but I have quite a few - mostly skincare, with some hair + body care and a few makeup as well.

deluxe samples - goal: use 2-5 per month? (I may reevaluate this goal once I've had a chance to see how many I typically get through in a month)

Again, I didn't inventory these either, as they are all scattered in with the rest of my beauty collection, but I have quite a few. I feel like with both foils and deluxe samples, I kind of forget about them most of the time, so I'm hoping to use + finish more of them this year.

That's all for now - I'll be back in a month or so, hopefully with some progress to report! 💜

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Wow, you’ve really been working your way through that Glossier concealer @caitbird; impressive! You’ll have a good variety of lip balms and hand creams to keep you from getting bored with your pan it! challenge.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird Nice selections with your project pan items this year!! You're so close on the cleanser and toner, they'll be used up in no time. I really like how you pulled out your perfume samples you have a full size of, I should do that. I should also separate out my foils by product type. Good luck!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird How exciting! Beautiful collections.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird I love the photo of all your lip balms.  I may copy you and pull them all out for inventory and see how bad my situation has gotten.  So.... how do you like the Glossier Balm Dotcom Lip Balm and Skin Salve ? lol

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Seeing your lip balms is so satisfying!! @caitbird

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@lmaster, these will be fun to go through; that DC skin gloss looks like it could be fully panned before the year is up.

Thank you!! @itsfi i use it for under painting and it works very well 😌
