Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

2026 has arrived and so has YEAR NINE (9) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

20262026

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

April check-in

Monthly Summary:
Between allergies and wanting to play with some of the beauties from SEPHORiA last month and the spring savings event earlier this month, I didn't turn too often to my pan items. That said, of my pan it! challenge products, I spent most of April  focused on the two Make Up For Ever products, the Dior pressed powder, and the Laneige lip sleeping mask, and that approach proved to be very beneficial for getting closer to my pan it! goals, including hitting pan on two of them! 🙌

April All Stars:
The MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette is having a huge pan it! moment ... but no need to take my word for it, see below 👇 for yourself.

Not to be outdone, DIOR Forever Natural Velvet Matte Compact Foundation also saw some shiny silver. 😍

Next Month's Focus
Hoping allergies are kinder to me next month and I have fewer occasions of having to deal with some very watery eyes throughout the day. May's pan it! focus will be on the powder products in my challenge - the YSL Stora Dolls quad, the Tower 28 blush, as well as expanding that pan on the Dior pressed powder. 🤞

Chugging along with the LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask – Intense Hydration Lip Treatment with Vitamin C Vanilla.

4.2026 Pan - MUFE 1.jpg
We've come quite a ways with MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Long-Lasting Lip Liner 606 Wherever Walnut.

And now,
4.2026 Pan - Dior.jpg
Looky here, this happened 👀 ... and just when I thought I was never going to see pan on it.

But as satisfying as that was, I was so, so, sooooo pleased when I first hit pan on the MUFE palette and then to see it end up looking like this at the end of the month?!! 😊

2026 pan it goals (updated).jpeg
I've been doing a pretty good job, for the most part, of holding my feel to the fire when it comes to keeping to / being selective about my spending (beauty and otherwise) and with using my stash and I've seen some good results from with some recent items in theShop Your Stash Challenge: Spring 2026 🦋 and here with these beauties! I don't know if it's because I feel like I'm close with that bottom right shade on the left side of the MUFE palette or I'm feeling a little emboldened maybe? by hitting pan on that last contour shade in the palette, but I'm thinking I may try to hit pan on that other MUFE shade. It is one I have been pairing often with the Tower 28 Beauty GetSet® Blur + Set Matte Powder Blush Samo Spritzer so keeping up that pairing might get me more use out of that powder blush as well. 🤔

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Absolutely wonderful job @itsfi

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi WOW those are some pans!!! And the MUFE is coming along so well!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@Samtian, I was super excited with progress on my pan items this month. I was almost ready to pitch that Dior powder, it’s taken a while, but now I’m motivated again to work on it more.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

It's been a very slow month for me (month long sickness). Here is the only oil that showed any progress so far this year yikes.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@Samtian I hope your on the mend!! It's going around!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@lmaster Thank you! Today is the first day I haven't used a cough drop yet. Still coughing but not so bad I need a drop.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

😞 Feel better soon, @Samtian!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@curlychiquita Thank you, I hope to!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Oh no, I'm so sorry you've been sick all month @Samtian! Ohhh, is that the L'Occitane oil? 😍 Progress is progress. It comes in waves, sometimes it's just little by little and others, it's leaps and bounds.

Hope you get better soon!

P.S. Love the washi tape, it's so pretty!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi Thank you. I just hope it's not a 3 month cough like I had last year! Yep it is that oil! I forgot I had it and found it end of last year... or earlier this year.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

March Pan Progress Report

Monthly Summary:
Continue to work on most of the pan it! products, some seeing more noticeable progress than others. C'est la vie.

March All Stars:
The Make Up For Ever products have really been having their moments across multiple threads in the Community à la their inclusion in this year's pan challenge. That's often how it goes and I don't mind it all.
3.31.2026 Pan 2.jpg
Artist Color Pencil: Eye, Lip & Brow Pencil - MAKE UP FOR EVER | Sephora Wherever Walnut really is coming along very nicely. I'm being very conservative with when / how often I sharpen it, in large part to see how long it takes me to work through this in that manner.
3.31.2026 Pan 3.jpg
HD Skin Face Essentials Long-Lasting Full Face Cream Palette - MAKE UP FOR EVER | Sephora is making good progress as well, particularly the lower right shade (3D) that I've been using as a contour shade and occasionally as a wash of color on the lids. Hard to tell from the angle of the photo (my bad), but there's a very  noticeable dip in this pan (3D) and I'm seeing and feeling the beginnings of actual dips in pans 1C, 2C, and 3B. Exciting!! Admittedly, I was getting a teensy bit frustrated with my progress but taking a step back and looking at it again, I'm seeing more of the fruits of my labor, and that's been a good motivator.😊

Next Month's Focus:
I realized that I've been neglecting the Dior pressed powder 🙁, but will try to make that something I reach for at least once a week on the weekends in April as well as a product I try to incorporate into a couple of my weekly capsules next month. 🤞

Progress Pictorials:
3.31.2026 Pan 1.jpg
Cle de Peau The Foundation - this is one of those items in my project pan where I'm either all in with it (at the very beginning of the month) or I'm just reaching for it ever so often, when or if I remember, or stumble upon it. That's more an observation than an indictment of my usage, but I do want to try to bring this back into the fold more. The change in numbers on the scale was more a product of last month's use than March, but I'll take it. I'm fairly confident that will happen more naturally once the weather here settles into a more consistent warmer pattern. It's in my capsule this week for Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2026 and I'm hoping to be more consistent with it during the spring and summer seasons.

3.31.2026 Pan 4.png
Touch In Sol Icy Sherbet Primer did some heavy lifting this month, mostly behind the scenes. I was testing it out over with several foundations that I realized thanks to Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory that I need to put to use more often and this is a primer that I feel will work beautifully in the warmer seasons so I was pairing this primer with several of those foundations to see how they worked together, mainly on weekends or if I was home while it was still light out, removing my makeup for the day and testing out a new pairing while cooking or going on a walk after/before dinner.

3.31.2026 Pan 5.jpg
Lip Sleeping Mask - LANEIGE | Sephora (no idea why this won't populate as a product to tag) - I have the vanilla flavor / scent in special edition collab packaging - this is a slow and steady one, especially this month as I rotated a few different lip balms, lip masks into my routine. I still think I'm on target to finish the jar by or before the end of the year.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Fantastic job! @itsfi

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@itsfi Ooh that is some great progress!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you @Samtian, I'm trying. Some days it seems like like a snail moves faster but we'll all get there, bit by bit! 😁

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Project Pan 2026

March updates

I didn't have much to report last month, but this month I am finally seeing that slow and steady progress pay off!

  • Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser mini (carryover from 2025 project) - done! 🎉 Replacing with The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Hydrating Makeup Remover 1.7 oz/50 mL (goal: finish)
  • COSRX ABC Toner mini (carryover from 2025 project) - done! 🎉 Replacing with TonyMoly Wonder Ceramide Mochi Toner (goal: finish)
  • Lip balms (~105) - 2 finished so far, 1 more should be finished within the week, and a fourth is getting close to done (but more purchased, oops 😅)
  • Hand creams (45 + 1 foil) - finished one (mini size) so far - need to step it up!
  • Function of Beauty Hair Mask (carryover from 2025 project) - about 3/4 done? I have been using it consistently, so should be done with it soon. Haven't decided yet what I will replace it with once it's finished.

Pan It! empties so far:

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird good job pushing those products!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird Wow! You have done amazing!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@caitbird That's a few solid looking empties there!  Well done plugging away at 'em!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Amazing, amazing progress, @caitbird !! It really is about the steady progress (which for me is the hard part lol). I also love the cat washi tape on the toner.
