CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 12.21.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.
Previous Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 12.23.2024]
FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
@itsfi Thanks! I rarely do eyeliner because I have a difficult time with it. Others make it look so easy. I think I need to practice more.
I ended up picking up thr FAB bronzing drops on sale. Good to the about the DE drops. I really love the First Aid Beauty Deep Cleanser with Red Clay 4.7 oz/ 134 g . I am on my second bottle. It leaves my skin feeling clean without stripping it. I also enjoy the fresh scent.
WEEK 35 (August 26 - September 1) - The August 2024 Throw Down!, Throwback, and/or Throw Out? Makeup Capsule
I have had similar and relatable experiences with these themes throughout the past Few Weeks . I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to do one or all.
Throwdown
Tatcha has recently sparked the Team Water 💦 Team Dewy Skin Moisturizer.
What I have to say on this is that I noticed I couldn’t make up my mind, but this didn’t necessarily mean a tie it means for me that the
Tatcha Mini The Water Cream 0.34 oz / 10 mL works for me on some days
and the
Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Refillable Moisturizer 0.34 oz / 10 mL
works on other days
Throwbacks
I utilized this theme in throwback to my first time experiencing a brand and working with neon
Throwback to when I first tried Rhode I was so excited the shades are so unique it is meltable yet blendable and has a long wear on the skin I also love the lip peptide gloss
Rhode Mauve Duo
Sleepy Girl Pocket Blush
Salty Tan Lip Peptide Gloss
First time trying DMB! And 80’s vibes love the colors
Danessa Myricks Beauty Infinite Chrome Flakes Multichrome Gel for Eyes & Face Cupid
Danessa Myricks Beauty Twin Flames Liquid Eyeshadow Sweetheart
I love neon and 80’s and colors in general I love exploring creativity with these products because they spread into magical colors and remind me of nostaltic times!
Throwaways
Rare Beauty Liquid Eyeliner (can’t find tag)
Westman Atelier Lit Up Glow Highlighter Stick
The eyeliner bleeds through and the highlighter stick there’s nothing necesscarly wrong with it but it melted within the first day, I am just waiting to use these up if anyone has suggestions let me
know much appreciated. ❤️
@peculiarzmakeup Great feedback on your capsule! @itsfi has some amazing suggestions to repurpose your WA highlighter. I am so sorry that happened!
You can try going into the product directly with a brush and then warming it up/ buffing it out on your hand and then apply to your face for an even layer?
Thank you so much! I like the brush idea! I’ve tried that a few times it does help. I like the idea of repurposing these products and all the feedback is so helpful too because it helps me visualize different ways! I love this! And everyone’s Ideas help me to use the throwaways to their full capacity and reacess different ways to use products. 💕🫶 @Mellmars1185
This is a beautiful photo @peculiarzmakeup 🩷
Aah those debates, I like your take on this. A different routine for different days. I like the play it by ear route your taking. I find my skin is happiest too when I change things as necessary and listen to it.
Thank you! I really like the way you put this, go with the flow based on daily skin needs! I just love that! I appreciate it! ❤️ @CynthieLu
@peculiarzmakeup, ooouh, you went the trifecta route incorporating all three prompts available. 😍🙌 Ack, I'm so sorry the WA highlighter melted. Ugh. With the Throw Down!, Throwback, Throw Out! weeks, I left it open so folks read the theme as and or (and/or) and can choose to do 1, 2 or all 3.
As for the Westman Atelier Lit Up Glow Highlighter Stick Lit, a few things come to mind -
(1) Transfer it into a pot and apply with your fingers or a brush - as a traditional highlighter to the cheeks or to accentuate your cupid's bow
(2) Transfer a portion into an empty pot or container and mix in a liquid or cream blush to make your own blush-and-highlighter in one
(3) Transfer a portion of the product into a pot and mix in a liquid or cream bronzer for your own bronzer-and-highlghter in one
(4) See how it might work mixed with a lip color - lipstick, lip gloss, etc.
(5) Take some of the product and mix it with a body oil, lotion or cream for a glowy body oil/lotion/cream
Edited to add 8.30.2024 - I have a recollection that one of our BIC beauties also mentioned using the highlighter stick as primer. I want to say it was @curlychiquita, maybe?
@itsfi , @peculiarzmakeup , yes, I’ve tried it as a primer! It works pretty well but the Westman Atelier Liquid Super Loaded All-Over Illuminator Drops with Vitamin C Peau De Soleil came out later and I think works better. Although my favorite fit my skin tone is the Victoria Beckham & Augustinus Bader golden moisturizer.
Ooo that sounds neat I might have to try that I like that! @curlychiquita 🙂
Thank you so much! I love those ideas on how to use it and still make it workable! The throw down is definatley a tough one when you love both. I appreciate your encouragement on trying new ways of utilizing the WA Highlighter it is a very pretty product I do love it it’s just so melty. I am gonna try these!! I appreciate it 😊❤️ @itsfi
@peculiarzmakeup, with the throwdowns it could go so many ways depending on how many items I toss into the mix. I try hard to see if I can let go of one, and there may be times when all the products end up worth keeping but I do try to pick one, at least one, to let go of. I did a throw down or battle of lip liners with 5 or 6 liners and ended up only tossing one and marking one as undecided or on the chopping block for another day. May have to keep doing a battle with those lip liners until I end up with just one or two.
That is so useful! It’s helpful to because it narrows down the options and what is currently or a good fit for capsules. I really like that idea I may have to do that with blushes, I was also thinking of seeing if I could mix together any throw outs or find other uses for them I am gonna do some organizing. It’s so helpful to hear how everyone does their capsules because of the ideas that I may have not thought of before. It’s great 🙂 @itsfi
It's always great to be able to repurpose a product @peculiarzmakeup. We had a capsule theme around that a while back - a multi-purpose and repurpose makeup capsule; we may need to bring that back again.
Those are great ideas to salvage the melted product @itsfi 🙏
Week 35 - The August 2024 Throw Down!, Throwback, and/or Throw Out? Makeup Capsule
This is such a pretty picture of your Throwback Capsule.
ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray 3.4 oz/ 143 mL is a total work horse. 👌
I can't wait to hear how everything works out for you this week. Including Tatcha's primer. 💜😉
@CynthieLu, the ONE/Size is lovely. It gets less use than my Gucci mist but is nonetheless a solid setting spray in terms of its staying power. Lots of good ones out there to choose from and errr, use up if I have them. lol
Beautiful capsule I admire how you give yourself time to see how a product works for you I have the Tatcha primer and same shade lippie. It’s so neat seeing these capsules I love these themes @itsfi
Thank you @peculiarzmakeup; my skin isn't the same year-round though it seems to be shifting more that way in the last year so a product may wear differently on me in the summer (oily / oilier) than in the winter (much more dry), so I figure it makes sense to try something out during different seasons. Also, I just like to give a product a fair shake unless it irritates my skin or is just not a good fit for me.
Oh, how are you liking the Tatcha primer?
I find my skin to go through changes too throughout the year. I like the tatcha primer a lot I’ve never tried to the powder version but I like the liquid because for me I only have to use a few drops for my face. I’m a big fan of Tatcha 🤩❤️ @itsfi
Throwout? Capsule - All of these are old and didn't get finished. Most of the foundations and concealers shades are not quite right for my skin tone so I will be trying to make them work this week by mixing in bronzing drops or mixing light and dark products together to see if they behave on my skin. Wish me luck 🤞! I am testing some of the other items like the blush, highlighter and lippie. They look beautiful and got forgotten. I wonder if I can make them work 🤔?
***EDIT*** I have a wedding to attend on Saturday and I will not be using these
