The Gratis Thread πŸ›πŸŽ‰

A place to say thank you, provide reviews and first impressions, or follow up on gratis received after more use!

Many of us have been very lucky to receive gratis (thanks Sephora!), and I’ve been finding that while it’s easy to initially post about receiving it and initial reviews, it’s not as easy to follow up!

I thought maybe we could have a dedicated thread to follow-ups and reviews with products we’ve received after we’ve been using them for a while, especially because it’s sometimes hard to find the original thank you and first impressions threads.

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@twilightnicky That IGK product isn’t a dry shampoo, that may be why you are finding it’s not cleaning your roots as well. It’s basically a spray in hair treatment.

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Whoops! I will re-try it keeping that in mind lol. Thanks!

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Hmm, I'm intrigued by the Kiehl's for summer usage since I tend towards oily, @twilightnicky. Thanks for the reviews!

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

You’re welcome! Try to get a sample of it, I believe there’s a deluxe sample with purchase available right now. Hope it works out for you πŸ˜€

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Great to hear your reviews, @twilightnicky! I completely agree with your thoughts on the SHISEIDO - WASO: Hydrating Gel Beauty Sleeping Mask. It's gently cooling - not to the point that it wakes me up before I have to bed, but nice and refreshing on warmer nights. I know I'm going to love it even more in the middle of summer!

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Yes, maybe keep it in the fridge?

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Ooh, @GeorginaBT, a cooling sleeping mask sounds SO refreshing and perfect for summer.  I've been so into sleeping masks lately Smiley Happy.

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@twilightnicky So many great items! Enjoy Smiley Happy

Best,
Rebecca

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Catching up with a few reviews from some recent gratis:

First, is actually a not-that-recent gratis that I just finished. The TATA HARPER - Resurfacing AHA + BHA Serum

This was a perfectly lovely serum that was nicely scented and cosmetically elegant. It gave me no troubles with regards to the active ingredients. BUT it also didn't really do anything? I finished the entire bottle and just didn't notice any sort of difference in the overall appearance of my skin that I could attribute to this product. If you're new to chemical exfoliators, this is very gentle so maybe you'd get better results. But personally, there is no way I could justify the price for just "ok" results.

Next up, the more recent BUMBLE AND BUMBLE - Surf Styling Leave In

This is lovely but I think it's really meant for people with curlier hair than mine. I have very thick, coarse hair that has a slight natural wave but isn't really anything close to really being wavy or curly. If you're hair has a bit more curl, I think this might work out better.

And the VERB - Ghost Hair Maskβ„’

At first, I wasn't terribly wowed but this, but I've been consistently using it every other wash and I'm liking it a lot more now. I really enjoy the scent and it does leave my hair soft and more manageable the day of the wash. My only con would be that the effect isn't terribly long lasting, unlike some other masks that I've used. But overall- it's a great deep conditioner that easily rinses out and doesn't weigh down my hair.

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@quspork  Thanks for the update on the Ghost Oil hair mask. Maybe I’ll stick with my current fave, BRIOGEO - Don’t Despair, Repair!β„’ Deep Conditioning Mask.

thanks for these reviews @quspork πŸ‘

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Love this thread, @cianni. An update on some of my favorite gratis:

gratis.jpg

Spoiler
Love, love the LIVING PROOF - Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo and use it once a week now. It's softened my hair and I LOVE that. The KAJA - Mochi Glow Bouncy HighlighterI use daily. It replaced my Dior because it's so easy to apply with just my fingers. I've cut back on my makeup routine overall but never skimp on this! I'm kind of a picky perfume wearer (nothing too floral; spicy is good). But the BY ROSIE JANE - Leila Lou Travel Spray is a nice fruity pear scent that is fresh, not at all cloying. I ended up buying the mini roller set for my daughter for Christmas, and this is still my favorite. The Viktor & Rolf Magic Dancing Roses was part of the same gratis and I find myself reaching for it quite often. It's rose but a bit peppery. Not heavy at all. At first I wasn't overwhelmed by it but now it's almost empty!

that highlighter is so beautiful @eshoe

Re: that highlighter is so beautiful @eshoe

It’s gonna last awhile too, @lmaster, love that!

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@eshoe totally agree about the detox shampoo! I got a random sample of it and it's one of the best detox shampoos I have used!

How do you find the Kaja in terms of glitteryness. I swatched some of the blushes and highlight in store but I was worried about the sparkle effect

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@Kim888 some swatches for you. I have medium skin/neutral undertones for reference:26F48F6B-9D28-45AA-BE01-4FEB15010115.jpeg

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

I will do a couple swatches on my daughter and I tomorrow in natural light with some comps @Kim888. Sorry I did not get a notification πŸ™„ otherwise I would have done this today. Becca Opal is blinding compared to this.

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@eshoe I really like the LIVING PROOF - Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo

as well!  I didn't receive it in gratis like you did but I initially received a mini as a GWP and since then I've purchased a couple of the full size--I knew I'd want one as a backup!

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Backups are a great benchmark, @CookieGirl1 πŸ˜‰

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

@eshoe you're selling me on the kaja!  I initially had purchased a bunch of cream stick highlighters thinking that it would be easy to throw on or take with me for a quick look... several attempts with a very distinct highlighter cheek line later, I buff it out with a sponge, which totally defeats the purpose of something that is easy to apply and go πŸ˜‚(Side note: starting this thread was the worst/best idea because my "next product to try" list has grown exponentially after seeing all the reviews in one place)

Re: Gratis Check-InsπŸ›πŸŽ‰

Oooh I πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— my Kaja @cianni! I prefer a more natural as opposed to blinding highlighter for reference. I’ve tried applying it with a brush (the ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS - A23 Pro Brush – Large Tapered Blending Brushbut it barely shows up. As much as I prefer not to use fingerstip application, it’s what helps give this such a beautiful glow.

And yes. I hear ya. I want to buy every mask out there just to see what it’s like πŸ˜‚
