RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

this thread has worked hard and deserves a proper rest. please now post in RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY PART DEUX

Ok so I've been wanting to make this thread for a while. I've also been wanting to start a "random thoughts" thread...but I figured I'd separate the categories so that at least the "beauty" one is on the front page, rather than hidden in off topic. So, have a beauty-related thought but don't think it's worth starting a thread about ? Post it here !

today I got a facial at an extraordinarily nice spa. A real treat. And the results were immediate and truly great. But guys: she pulled out a clarisonic and a foamy cleanser for that first initial cleanse, and I nearly had a heart attack. Great for a lot of people but most of you know how I feel about those things !!!!!! Overall, as I said, it was great and my skin is happy. But sheesh.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

it was nice to meet you green chill whats your real name? and good camera timing

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Anyone got any idea how to deal with super, dry ends? I'm thinking of ditching the wash today. I've also been thinking of going to Paul Mitchell's Beauty School (there's one near my pool; competitive swimmer) to get a scalp treatment (not happy, dry and flaky) and then a deep one.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Jenn - are the ends split as well?

I have hair that leans dry and can get frizzy in humidity.  This is how I care for my hair.

- I do not wash every day.  Since you are a swimmer, you might have to wash after every swim....do accordingly.

- I get a trim once evey 2-3 months.  Keeps the bottoms from splitting and looking like straw.

- When I feel my hair is very dry, I do an oil hair mask for a few hours before a wash.  I use plain coconut oil.

- In terms of hair products, less is more (in my opinion).   I avoid hair sprays, holding things, mousses, dry shampoos etc. like the plague. Use sparingly.

- Use moiturzing shampoos/conditioners (I prefer sulphate free ones as well).

- Heat styling damages hair.  I use a hair dryer as well, and it is certainly not helping.  But I am paying a price for convenience.  Use a hair protectant (serum/oil) before drying.  Or cut back on heat styling.  I try and get rid of most of the water from my hair before using a dryer.  I do not use irons and such.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

GreenChilli, thanks for your comments!

Yes, I do have a few split ends. Swim caps (latex) aren't exactly perfect, but they stay on. (Silicone is less damaging, but I tend to use more latex)

1. Yep... every session. But to use clarifying shampoos everyday might be overkill. So I'm just using something with tea tree oil (Paul Mitchell's)

2. Oh boy... I actually cut my hair every 6 months. Something about superstition and a tech swim cap sizing. (Not getting into that)

3. Do you use the plastic wrap+dryer method? Do you use a clarifying shampoo after? I tried this once and I asked my roommate to borrow her Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo because it was so oily all around.

4. I avoid hair sprays, holding things, mousses mainly because I really don't see a need to style. All I use is a hairbrush!

Speaking of hairbrushes, I mainly use Wet brushes (home) and a Tangle Teaser for swim practice.

5. Noted. I might need a stronger conditioner, but then again I tried to use my usual (prior to the Redken problem) Diamond Oil and I wasn't seeing and feeling my original results. I try to wring excess water out of my hair and then put conditioner on to hopefully have the conditioner absorb better. (Not sure if that really works. It's kinda like how when you wear a tech suit, some recommend you shower before you swim in it because chlorine won't be absorbed and then the suit lasts longer... suits don't last long when they are the elite ones)

6. I don't actually use dryers when I'm done with practice, letting it air-dry. Seems to make my hair look better. 🙂

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Jenn - I NEVER use clarifying shampoos.  It is very stripping.  This might be a big issue in your routine.

Before slaon treatments they might use a clarifying shampoo to strip the hair for better product absorption.  If you think you need a clarifying shamppoo to remove product build up, I would still advise against it.  Wash your hair twice if you need to with regular shampoo.

Herbal Essenses is terrible.  Nuff said.

I suggest investing in higher end hair brands.  Pureology, Living Proof, Moroccan oil etc have worked okay.

When I do a hair msak, I just massage the oil into my scalp and hair, tie my hair into a bun with a clip and call it a day.  Then I wash - twice.  Do not use a clarifying shampoo.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

GC- I haven't used a clarifying unless you count Head and Shoulders for my dandruff. Lots of people have been saying to use anything to get the chlorine out, which to me=clarifying.

I agree: HE was fun in middle school. Not so much as a grown up. 🙂

I think I might skip a wash on Sunday for now on. 🙂

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Jenn - it was hard to find your post even though I know you replied.  BT is so unwieldy.

Try protecting your hair before a swim.  Cholrine is defiinitely not good for hair, but there are other ways to protect it a bit.  Some of my friends do this - wet your hair and squeeze excess water out.  Apply a conditioner through your hair (that you leave in).  Then put your swim cap over it.

After your swim, you can use a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner (instead of a clarifying one).

Try this.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

I'm very grateful to have a makeup-obsessed friend in RL. I'm Rouge and she's VIB. Last week, I made some orders for her of stuff I knew would be OOS come her sale time, such as the Give Me More Lip set. Then this week, she hunted down the Marc Jacobs holiday eyeshadow palette for me at a store, had them put it on hold, and drove out to get it. Heart

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

I have nightmares/night terrors on the reg - I am sorry, it sucks!

I agree watch funny things, or read funny things. I am partial to Jimmy Fallon videos on YouTube (sometimes in the middle of the night right as I wake up).

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Hopefully that works, I will try it tonight. I tried watching TV last night before bed but must have not watched anything funny enough =\

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

I also am a fan of Big Bang Theory…and the League (if you like football - otherwise it is kind of boring)

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Try watching funny stuff on YouTube. It helped me so much last night. Times like this are rough nj. ❤️

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

Ooh, I must check out 8 out of 10 cats!  What the heck could this be? The name alone is hilarious.

Re: RANDOM THOUGHTS : BEAUTY

I know sweetie darling!!! I have to stop myself from looking at the pictures of filming that are online. I don't want any spoilers.
