Ok so I've been wanting to make this thread for a while. I've also been wanting to start a "random thoughts" thread...but I figured I'd separate the categories so that at least the "beauty" one is on the front page, rather than hidden in off topic. So, have a beauty-related thought but don't think it's worth starting a thread about ? Post it here !

today I got a facial at an extraordinarily nice spa. A real treat. And the results were immediate and truly great. But guys: she pulled out a clarisonic and a foamy cleanser for that first initial cleanse, and I nearly had a heart attack. Great for a lot of people but most of you know how I feel about those things !!!!!! Overall, as I said, it was great and my skin is happy. But sheesh.

I've been MIA on BT this week and I missed you all!  Had to go to conference for all of us who hold my same position from across the country.  Every single time I go to one of these (which happens every few years) I always get asked if I came for my boss.  Sigh, then I have the pleasure of saying, "That would be me!  It's nice to meet you."  I get such a kick out of it.

I'm not someone who likes vlogs, but I like hers, she's a genuine person who doesn't belabor her "realness" like everyone else does from California. Lol And she's gorgeous, makeup always frickin perfect. I actually discovered the Luna Sleeping Night Oil thanks to her, and it's the first oil to work so well with my glycolic acid stuff.

Really love watching Claire. She's one of only a few people on YouTube I actively seek out.

Her vlog about her mother had me wailing.

Me too. My mother died 3 years ago from cancer, and when I found out about the diagnosis I said, "At least it's not Alzheimer's," since it is in her family history. Claire has real resolve and is a person who really knows herself. I don't feel like I can say that about many "beauty gurus."

Even though the video was heart-breakingly personal, it didn't feel like an overshare at all. It speaks to her authenticity. She's not a character or caricature, you know?

Exactly, she's really natural on video and really is a makeup artist, and not in this girly, pink way so many seem to be about. And thank you, she fought for a long time and it was her turn to let go and be taken care of for once in her life.

I think I'm falling in love with the Naked 3 palette about 6 months after actually buying it. Using UDPP in Sin Primer makes all those mauvey-rosey colors actually show up on my eyelids. I feel so satisfied.

1. I just got an email about the status of a fedex shipment enroute to me.  I have no idea what it is.  This is a random beauty thought, cuz seriously...what else could it be? 

2. Tomorrow I am going to a themed party - 1920s.  I will win a prize for "best effort".

here's a pic from new year's eve 2010, where i went to a flapper party. it's funny because now i suppose i wear a variation of 20s style makeup all the time, but 5 years ago this was a big deal on my face !

i think i followed the kevin aucoin tutorial pretty dang closely. 

1920s makeup was MADE for black and white, i feel. much like so much of today's makeup seems made for insta selfies (take that as you will). 

next time i go to a 20s themed party i might just cover myself in greys and go as a silent film actress. or better yet, charlie chaplin.

I actually wanted to go as a 1920's gangsta - male.  But I forgot all about this party until I went to meet my MIL for coffee and suddenly I remembered.

I might still do that.  Tomorrow morning I will wear all the things and see what I look like...otherwise I will be buying a  shoulder holster at Party City, and a bow tie.

The human unit is afraid he will look very square tomorrow.  Yup...he will.
