Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

"The dang Vaseline is DONE!!!"

excited gif.gif

Waaaahoooo!!! 😍 It's D - O - N - E, done!!! Wow!! You must be so happy to have polished it off! I'm so happy for you, @missjeanie! That was a monstrous effort to work through that bottle.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi I still feel victimized by this bad body lotion.  It felt sooooo good to toss it into my empties!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I think we all feel for you with the Vaseline lotion @missjeanie. Impressed, yes. But also, "oh my gosh, when will she be free of it?!" 🤣 If I'm remembering right, you have more of these body lotions? I'm very concerned about that. 😬 A person can only go through so many sticky body lotions.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Don’t remind me of the others…there are two more but I don’t think I can’t force myself to do it.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I said ... nothing @missjeanie🙊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi  love this perfect reaction gif for this 🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@caitbird@missjeanie is such a trooper for giving this one so much time and attention. I am thrilled for her that she will get to move on. I mean, a little sad we won't have a good chuckle at how loooooong it has taken for this to be done but there will no doubt be other pan products in any one of our projects that are seemingly bottomless.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie You have made mountains of progress!!! Woo bye bye Vaseline!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian So glad to have that dang bottle gone!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Nice!! 🙌 Keep pushing through @missjeanie

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Some months feel easier than others @lmaster !  One product at a time!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@missjeanie yay for finishing the Vaseline!! Body cream is my guilty pleasure (specifically BBW) — I have so many tubes to finish that I’m going to be on a body moisturizer no-buy for like… 2+ years 🥲

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee I'm not typically a big user of body cream unless it's dead of winter.  That said... I may have enough supply to rival your 2 years lol!  I did pick up some from BBW during a summer sale (I went for candles and came out with half the store), so I'm curious to see how I like them!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Another month and a half late....

Beginning of August photo progress

1.jpg

--Vaseline lotion is a no.  Too sticky.  It's been like this for two years.  So close to done.

-The coconut milk split end mender.  Has not healed any split ends.  Maybe it's helping to prevent them?  As long as I don't go overboard with the application it's not hurting anything so I'll keep going with it.  But I am getting a haircut to help with the split ends.

-The 10-0-6 peachy face mask has been used as a neck and décolleté mask.  I put it on a few times a week about 10 minutes before I shower.  I'm not sure it's doing anything noticeable to my skin, but I'm trying to be better to this area of my body and the scent is lovely so I'm happy to use it up.

2.jpg

-Keihl's lip oil isn't a favourite at all.  I've powered though these before though so I'm still hoping to have it done before the year's out.

-Too Faced Dew You foundation.  This is one that I didn't like at the beginning of the year and now has grown on me.  I use very little when I use it and blend blend blend.  It's a good shade to match my neck so I do like that.  Once I found what to use with it... great product.

-Two delux size fragrances.  I like both, but don't love them.  The Clean Cashmere is easier to use in the summer, it's just a little lighter than the Elizabeth and James Black.  Both are also rollerballs which aren't a fav.

-Too Cool for School Lip Scrub.  I really enjoy this.  I've been into the habit of using it while I dry/curl my hair in the morning and it's quite nice.  I think I have another that's un touched somewhere.  I do find that I quite like the stick formula over a pot.

3.jpg

-The Neutogena... I'm not sure it did much other than detangle.  It's done though and one more bottle out of my stash.  I have many other products that do this for me, so no repurchase.

-Bumble and Bumble hairdressers oil primer spray.  I like the scent on this one.  I've gone through several bottles of this in the past and have at least one more in my backups.  I also have a smaller size for travel that's been getting use this summer.  Happy to be using this one more.

4.jpg

-The Gxve shadow quad is getting use.  I'm not super crazy with my shadow game so these are 'easy' for me.  I'll likely only hit pan on the bottom right hand (I swear in person I can see a dent in it) before year end but hope that I can get the bottom left finished.

-Brow Wiz... it works.  I just prefer the speed and ease of a tinted brow gel.  I will say this is value for money for someone who like me only uses a bit each day.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

I definitely see a dip in that bottom right shadow @missjeanie! It's a long game when it comes to panning shadows, but you got this! 👊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Dec 31 2024... After that this one is gone lol!  I need to get back to it though @itsfi !

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

71 days until the retirement party for your GXVE palette @missjeanie. I mean, if one were to count down these things... You know it'll fly by! I may have a palette joining you in retirement this year. Hahahahaha!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Oh wow... when you say 71 days... it doesn't sound like many more uses!!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

And even fewer as the days go by @missjeanie

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Another product done

IMG_20240910_081454359.jpg

At first this wasn't my favorite, but happily it did grow on me 😊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster  wow, great job! I'm glad this one grew on you!
