Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Welcome to Year 7 of our Pan It! Challenge ElleElleG_0-1704168084184.gif

ElleElleG_9-1704168647118.jpeg

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@beautyinsiderhe  Oh I am also looking forward to seeing how the Rare Beauty blush goes😀. You do not have to include makeup if you don’t want to. Skincare certainly counts as something to pan.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

These are fantastic choices for 2025 @beautyinsiderhe! I'm super excited to follow your progress with the Rare Beauty blush - it's such a beautiful blush, isn't it? Do you have a preferred method for applying it? Fingers? Beauty sponge? Brush? A combo of those?

Tagging @ElleElleG to tag you when the 2025 pan it! challenge thread goes up.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

This is my last check-in for 2024. It was a good year for me for this pan it! challenge.

12.2024 Pan - Hair Care.jpg
Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner is a product I love. I would have reached for it more but this year included a heavy rotation of hair care products being tested and reviewed. I'll continue to use this beauty but it won't be part of next year's challenge.

12.2024 Pan - Body care.jpg
All done!! So satisfying! All done!! So satisfying!

I started 2024 with 10 products set aside for the pan it! challenge, and among the 10, I had 14 goals. I met my goals for all but one product - the Fable & Mane HoliRoots™ Pre-Wash Treatment Oil for Thinning Hair. It spilled and I decluttered it. I wouldn't have been able to finish it because the product just didn't work well with my hair

I also brought into the mix 4 other products to pan throughout the year (in addition to the original 10), bringing these "extras" in after I used up one of my original 2024 pan it! shallenge product. Of these 5 new pan! it products, I finished 2 of them, both in this last month - the shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil and the U Beauty The Tinted Super Hydrator. That leaves the two OSEA body care products - the oil and the body balm. I'll carry the body oil into next year's pan it! challenge. The body balm I'll continue to use but it won't be part of my 2025 pan it! challenge.

Natasha Denona Biba Eye Shadow Palette (full size) has been retired from my pan it! challenges. I'll still continue to use a couple of the shades but with much less frequency - it's definitely going to a little odd at first not seeing it among my pan it! products for next year @Samtian. It had a good run and it, along with this challenge, have served me well and there have been many lessons learned along the way.

Working through ND Biba over these 5 years has been one of the major catalysts for my being more discerning and deliberate with my beauty purchases. That's not to say that I don't still have my fair share of hauls 🤣 but I've definitely made adjustments to my approach; for the better, in my opinion. Thank you @ElleElleG; it's been a blast to be a part of this fabulous group of panners. Looking forward to the 2025 pan it! challenge! 😍

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi  Excellent documentation of your progress 😀

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi it was such a great year of progress!!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster. thank you; it was a good year. I feel like I have a better idea of how to balance using my pan items and other things in my stash.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Finally!!!!!

1000001563.jpg

This is gone!! I'm so glad to have this fenty scent out of my life 🤣

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

LOL, great job @lmaster ! (Also, why is it that a fragrance lasts longer when you want to finish it but the opposite is true when you really like a fragrance/it's discontinued??)

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@ElleElleG thank you lovely!! I know!! It feels like that is true for most beauty products I love 😫

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster  Congratulations 🎊

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Thank you sweets!! @Cissy63

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster, done and onto the next fragrance.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

Yes! @itsfi I'm excited to start a new year of panning items

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

2024 has come to it's end! Woo 🎉. I did not get what I want accomplished but that's ok. I tried when I could and that's what matters.

Final totals-

Pan- 25/283    Target 80
Use- 208/516    Target 386

I did end up tossing the Lotion and Sol de Janerio, they saw like zero use. The Saie and Pumpkin oil saw some use, but weight wise made no difference so I'm letting them stay.

I thought I'd be more ready for work in the morning...I must have hit my head. I hate mornings and try to stay in bed as long as possible. So a lot of days I don't wear my pan projects. Not much progress for them-

The CT is feeling dryer so I do need to start working on that. I really love layering the creme with a powder. I would have done the highlighter more (it's easy) but the cats like to hide my stuff and I just found it the other day.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Samtian  Oh for sure to toss it if you’re not using it!    But you did a great job 😃

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@Cissy63 Thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

You ended the year strong @Samtian! Good work! I like your logic on doing away with the lotion and the SdJ. Not using it all does say a lot. Great reminder - I want to try using a scale / weight for at least one of my pan it! items for next year. I'm on the fence about one, no, make that two products. Once I make a final decision on that, I will have my 2025 pan products ready!

lolololol, I typically like mornings but I still try to stay in bed as long as possible, especially in the winter months. My brain starts working on figuring out what I might be able to give up or delay or move around in order to get 2, 4, 5, 10 more minutes under the covers. 🤣

Oh goodness, your fur babies are really taking an active part in this project pan and trying to make it extra challenging for you. Do they have set places they like to hide things or are they just all over the place?

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@itsfi Weighing is really a good idea!

I try to make my lunch and get everything ready the night before so I can lay down longer 😅.

Oh those kittens. They like to just take off with things and try to eat them.

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

You did a fabulous job 👏 @Samtian

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

@lmaster Thank you!

Re: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

November 2024 Progress

Monthly Summary: No panned products this month but we're close on a few. 😊

November All Stars: I was suprised by how much of the U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator I was able to work through.

Next Month's Focus: I'll give some concentrated attention to the U Beauty skin tint, the Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes and the shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil. I think I may be able to polish off all of them by the end of the year. 🤞

11.2024 Pan - WA.jpg
We're so close. Soooooo. close. I fairly certain I can finish this Westman Atelier Lip Suede Lipstick Palette Les Nudes before the end of next month if I reach for it consistently. I plan to use it as my primary lip go-to on the weekends and for afternoon touch ups during the week.

 11.2024 Pan - U Beauty + Hair.jpg
🌻  The U Beauty skin tint was my go-to foundation for my red lipstick battles. I finished the first part of the red lipstickBeauty Product Battles, Throw Downs and Showdowns so I'll have to make a very deliberate choice to reach for this in December. Coverage is light on the color side, and the glow can be a little over the top for my preferences and my skin (but when I spritz the ONE/SIZE mattifying spray over it, coverage is just right. 👌 It's argan oil based which explains for me why the formula seems to sit on top of my skin and have a lengthier time being absorbed. This is one that's geared towards very dry skin types.

🌷  shu uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Hair Oil is nice - hydrating, nourishing and leaves my hair soft and silky. Where is suffers is just that I have other hair oils I love more.

🌼  Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner 6.7 oz / 200 mL is a favorite of mine. I'm a fan of the products in their entire guava collection. I'll continue to use this next month and next year, but don't anticipate that it will be part of my 2025 pan it! items.

11.2024 Pan - OSEA.jpg
The very definition of "slow and steady" - the OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil and the OSEA Anti-Aging Body Balm are wonderful Both will see more use with winter quickly approaching. I'll eventually finish both these products; it just won't happen by the end of the year. Big question is whether to include one or both into next year's project pan. 🤔
