Happy August, Beauty Insider Community! I hope you’re all soaking up the final rays of summer (though here in San Francisco, our summer is just starting 😜) and putting that SPF to good use. As for me, I’ve been spending the month getting friendly with some brand-new (and in some cases, just new-to-me) products that have become fast favorites! I’ve been giving my claw clip a break and letting my hair down (frizz-free!), testing some hydrating new skincare picks, and channeling fluffy brows and lush lashes. What about you, BIC? Have you been falling back in love with some old favorites, or getting your hands on as much summer newness as possible? Let’s talk August faves!
Here are the products I’ve been regularly reaching for all month long:
Your turn, Community! Which skincare, hair, makeup, fragrance, and/or wellness products have your attention this month? Reply below and don’t forget to use the “#” sign to tag those products!
@itsfi the Jo Malone cologne sounds lovely! I don't think that one was even on my radar.
@CookieGirl1, if I’m remembering right, the Crystal Campion scent was part of a collection that was released maybe a few weeks or a month after JM’s blossoms collection came out. The latter was heavily promoted and I think the Wild Swimming collection just got less air time and the timing of its release so close to the other collection didn’t help.
I’m not always big on aquatic florals - love each fragrance family on its own but when they’re together, it’s not always a win, so this one surprised me. Not sure if it’s the softness of the fragrance or that any salty water / ocean scent is toned down a lot, but i find this one to be really nice.
@itsfi you describe it so well; it makes ME want to smell it now!
@CookieGirl1, I’ve never really smelled a fragrance like this one. The ones from this line are worth checking out if you can find them nearby. I was able to smell a few and went with this one. 😍 Thank you. That’s really nice of you to say. I feel like my descriptions can be clunky sometimes and it’s definitely a work in progress for me when it comes to describing scents. But it is fun.
@itsfi Great favs!!! That’s so sad the Dr. Jart is discontinued 😭 why do they always do that! I agree with the Merit I love that stick foundation! I like to use it as a concealer sometimes!! I love your whole picture it is a work of art!
I know @ather! At this point, I just enjoy the products I love and hope that I can find a suitable replacement before I lose access to beloved products. I haven’t (yet) found a dupe for this Dr Jart but I have some other options that will work just fine next summer.
Yes, yes, yes, the Merit stick performs beautifully as a concealer; love it for touch ups during the day. Have you tried contouring with it?
Thank you. Appreciate your always kind and encouraging words. I’ve been experimenting more with my photos - still love and shoot my tried and true set ups but am playing around with different looks, angles, etc. It’s one of my creative outlets.
@itsfi I just love seeing your set ups! You really have an eye to make pictures great! I’m glad you enjoy it!!
Awww, thank you so much, @ather; that means a lot. 🥰 I feel like products these days are often designed with it being photographed in mind (“instagrammable” was not in my vocabulary when I got into makeup and skincare), so the products really do a lot of the heavy lifting in my photos. I have my fallbacks for set up but like to experiment with different looks when I get the chance to.
@itsfi ooo I love the way you describe that Lancome mascara! Will have to check it out. I also am forcing myself to chill out on the Laneige products (at least until I make a bigger dent in the ones I already have), but mango sounds delish.
@AlexBT, the Lancome serum mascara took me by surprise. I wasn't expected it to strengthen the health of my lashes. I actually didn't realize it until I noticed my lashes were fuller; I had not been using a lash serum and the only thing I was wearing on my lashes was the Lancome Le 8 mascara. 😍 I don't know about you, but I feel like the jars of the Laneige lip masks are never ending! lol
Edited to add: Meant to include a pic to show what the brush looks like. The packaging is beautiful, made of glass and has a good weight to it. Looks lovely on the table but it's not practical to carry around. The only downside to this mascara, in my mind, and it's not even that much of a downside really.
@itsfi haha wow, so luxe! I feel like I'd knock it off my very crowded vanity and break it. but looks nice!
I'm SO bad at sticking to lash serums, so I like the thought of double-duty treatment/makeup product, even if it's not advertised as such! (Part of the reason I really like the Wander Beauty Upgraded Lashes™ Thickening Mascara!) I'll have to give this one a try.
I’ve heard good things about that Wander mascara @AlexBT. Making a note on my list. 📝 Yeah, I used to be good with sticking to a schedule with lash serums but lately, it’s an effort to just get in 3 consecutive days, even when the tube is sitting right in front of me. 😆
@itsfi Great post! I'll have to try the Lancome mascara.
@Ispend2much6, thank you. The serum mascara is lovely.
The Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Refillable Moisturizer mini was part of this year's birthday gift set and it's been an amazing nighttime moisturizer for me! My sample has lasted a surprising amount of time since it really doesn't take much but I'm going to need a full size.
Thanks again to @TeamBIC for gifting me the MAKEUP BY MARIO SoftSculpt Transforming Skin Enhancer® because it's been the "bronzer" that I can't put down. Mine has a significant dip in it 😂.
BBW came out with "Poppy" this year and it's not a scent that I would typically gravitate toward but for some reason it's been hitting different for me and this mini cream will be an Empty In another day or so!
Finally, I got sucked into loving the tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump Gloss. They live in my purse and my bathroom in a couple of shades.
I've really wanted to try out the #tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump as people have been raving about it! Is it worth it? and do you know of any dupes for it as well?
I worked at Bath and Body Works when we released Poppy and it was a HIT! Love to see that it is still such a popular fragrance even into the colder months!
@CookieGirl1, Tatcha Dewy Skin is a fab cold weather moisturizer. 💜 My skin loves it.
@itsfi I hadn't tried it before this sample but I'm really liking it; I can actually feel a difference in my skin even after not having used it too long.
@CookieGirl1, that’s a good indicator of how well a product works for your skin - missing it or noticing a difference when it’s not being used. Tatcha has some wonderful treats for the skin.
@CookieGirl1 You can never go wrong with Tatcha; I'm glad it's working so well for you!
