Happy August, Beauty Insider Community! I hope you’re all soaking up the final rays of summer (though here in San Francisco, our summer is just starting 😜) and putting that SPF to good use. As for me, I’ve been spending the month getting friendly with some brand-new (and in some cases, just new-to-me) products that have become fast favorites! I’ve been giving my claw clip a break and letting my hair down (frizz-free!), testing some hydrating new skincare picks, and channeling fluffy brows and lush lashes. What about you, BIC? Have you been falling back in love with some old favorites, or getting your hands on as much summer newness as possible? Let’s talk August faves!
Here are the products I’ve been regularly reaching for all month long:
Your turn, Community! Which skincare, hair, makeup, fragrance, and/or wellness products have your attention this month? Reply below and don’t forget to use the “#” sign to tag those products!
@WinglessOne have you tried the CosRX lip mask? I saw that it's coming up as part of the Ulta 21 Days Sale and was mildly curious (although considering that I just purchased ANOTHER Tatcha lip mask I probably should curb my curiosity).
@CookieGirl1 Nope, I haven’t tried it. The INCI list tells me that mask won’t work for me: contains no petrolatum. The ingredients aren’t bad though. I like that it contains phytosphingosine, and mango seed is loaded with good stuff on its own. I'm sure shea butter + coconut oil + castor oil + jojoba + mango seed butter are moisturizing enough for many folks, but my fussy lips demand petrolatum.
Your comment reminded me to restock my Abib heartleaf sheet masks (best mask ever for my skin). I see Abib now has a jericho rose mask; might have to try one. And I still want to try some of their expanded heartleaf line of products—well, the ones that don’t contain lavender or other things my face hates. Abib used to not list full INCI data at their site, but they do now, thank goodness.
EDIT: left shea butter off the list of moisturizing ingredients in the COSRX lip mask. Shea butter's never moisturizing enough for my lips, but it is for some people.
Yesss Danessa's products are so pretty! The last time I was in store, I played with a couple different shades of Danessa Myricks Beauty Infinite Chrome Waterproof Micropencil Eyeliner, and I was so impressed with the color pay-off and the boldness of the chrome. That shadow looks awesome on you.
I also need that lash comb, big time! I was looking for one awhile ago and was surprised there weren't a lot of results for what I was looking for - treasure that SC relic!
Thanks @AlexBT ! I also have a couple of Danessa's eyeliners but keep forgetting to play with them... I have several brands' eyeliners to test. Note to self (again)!
I really wish Sephora hadn't discontinued that lash comb. It's traveled with me many times, and I kept saying I'd buy another one to always keep in my travel kit. Sigh... I also noticed—and was surprised—that Sephora has no lash combs/separators when I tried to find this particular comb on the site, to see if it still exists. Tweezerman makes a folding pointy-tipped comb, but I prefer the way the Sephora's folds. Hopefully it comes back someday so you can get one, and I can get a backup!
Thanks for sharing this. it is very useful.
@lilymartin123, 100% agree - it’s so helpful and fun to see and hear about everyone’s favorite products!
These more recent Athr Beauty palettes are so good!! Miles above their previous formulas. The Athr Beauty Desert Sunset Eyeshadow Palette is perfect for the end of summer (say it ain't so 😭) and the Athr Beauty Moonlight Crystal Eyeshadow Palette is a cool toned dream.
I love a lot of cream blushes, but lately I've been reaching for the Melt Cosmetics Cream Blushlight Sandy Cheeks. This formula is amazing (soft and smoothing and pigmented and easy to blend) and this shade is gorgeous for the summer. Plus it pairs really nicely with the MAKEUP BY MARIO SoftSculpt® Bronzer Medium , which I've also been using a lot (thank you, @TeamBIC 🙏).
I love the Kaleidos Lip Clays , and this month I've been reaching for the shade Cactus Flower. It's a bright bold punchy pink.
I can't believe I never used the Gerard Cosmetics Eye Base until now, but it's great. An OG for a reason.
I've started using the philosophy Microdelivery Resurfacing Peel and wow wow wow this leaves my skin so soft without being too much for my sensitive skin. I don't love the two products cause it's hard to gage how much of each product to use too make sure I'm using them evenly.
The Eau de Juice 100% Chilled is a fun, fruity and sweet pop of summer. Yes is it older? More affordable? Do I care? No, give me a gourmand bergamot and I'm sold.
The Athr shadows look gorgeous.
@haleyvvvv, I love the packaging of the Eau de Juice parfums! ♥️ Creative and whimsical and you are absolutely right - a gourmand bergamot is too good to pass up.
@haleyvvvv How did I miss the Athr sunset palette??? It is gorgeous!!!
It is SO pretty, @ather!! And it performs really well!
@haleyvvvv I feel like Philosophy is having such a moment lately -- that resurfacing peel sounds magical!
Lovely products @haleyvvvv I'm intrigued by the creamy blush, I love things that blend well and easily lol
I 100% agree with you, Bergamot is one of my all time favorite scents, put in anything and I'm just yes, yes please 😅
Thank you, @CynthieLu!!
I think I like the wear of the Tower28 blushes more, but for finish these are my favorite. Can't recommend these Melt blushes enough!!
@AlexBTGreat choices! I'm still on the fence about the copper serum. I really liked it the first couple of times I used it; it even seems like it could act like a primer for me. But then it stopped working. I'll have to retry it.
Totally agree about the tarte tartelette™ tubing mascara Black ! I just applied it on top of Surratt's mascara, and I look like I am wearing false lashes!
Love the Color Wow. Always.
The past few weeks I've been decluttering my makeup again. I want to get to the point where I only have the products I am likely to grab and use.
But then, there's the issue of the collections that I love and/or are no longer being made, such as my Dolce Gabbana and Burberry products.
It wouldn't even really matter what shades my DG products were, with this beautiful casings! But, I do like the shades I have.
DG blush,
Josie Maran Argan Smooth Skin Resurfacing Serum 0.85 oz/ 25 mL
Josie Maran Argan Beta Retinol Pink Algae Serum 0.85 oz/ 25 mL
DG liquid lipstick
DG balm
DG lipstick- Good news- the newer lipsticks are not as heavily scented as the original ones!
Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray 8.5 oz/ 300mL
NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Medium Coverage Foundation Yukon
I used the Nars foundation the other day. I discovered that I only need to use a pea-sized amount for my entire face. Even that small amount made a huge difference in my skin's appearance, making it look smooth and radiant. I didn't like it when I used a larger amount of it.
Really, really loved the Oribe Apres spray. Spraying my freshly curled hair with it, breaking apart the curls with my fingers, then applying their Oribe Superfine Hair Spray 9 oz/ 300mL means I don't have to redo my hair for another two days. It gives my hair more volume too, which is great because mine is fine.
I find both Josie Maran skin treatments are very gentle. I like combining them with Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil and Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter Unscented at night; during the day with the Face Butter only. The Pink Algae really clears my skin quickly.
@Ispend2much6 you've tried the copper serum?
@lmaster I'm sorry to say that the copper serum clogged my pores. I'm breaking out in bumps already after 1 day.
@Ispend2much6 total bummer!!! Thank you for the info darlin
@lmaster I actually put it on this a.m. for the first time in a long time. I applied the omega cream on top. I'll let you know what I find (sometimes it's hard to tell!)
