Monthly Favorites: August 2022 Edition!

Happy August, Beauty Insider Community! I hope you’re all soaking up the final rays of summer (though here in San Francisco, our summer is just starting 😜) and putting that SPF to good use. As for me, I’ve been spending the month getting friendly with some brand-new (and in some cases, just new-to-me) products that have become fast favorites! I’ve been giving my claw clip a break and letting my hair down (frizz-free!), testing some hydrating new skincare picks, and channeling fluffy brows and lush lashes. What about you, BIC? Have you been falling back in love with some old favorites, or getting your hands on as much summer newness as possible? Let’s talk August faves!

Faves this month is not a new product but I just love it. It’s the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation and the NARS Soft Matte Complete Full Coverage Longwear Concealer

@idanyd, tried and true products make the best favorites! I've used (and like) the soft matte concealer - it's nice - but have yet to try the soft matte foundation. Do you find it to be full coverage as claimed, or buildable to full coverage?

@idanyd  I am surprised not to see any eye palettes in your favs!!! Nars really makes a great base product! Can’t beat them!

@idanyd I don't think I have a full on lip stain but my "sheer" Burberry lipsticks leave behind a full long lasting staining and they are truly some of my favorites for when I need to have a bit of color on the lips without the worry of reapplying. Would love to try out an actual lip stain sometime!

Oh I really enjoy lip stains! Specially since my job requires the use of masks 😷; with lip stains I don’t have to worry about looking like I ate a lot of tacos and didn’t wipe my face clean 😂

A Lot of Korean ones! Holika holika; etude house; even colourpop have some and the benefit tiny I use on the lips! What I do is use my finger to spread it on the lips and I am good to go!

Hair products of the month!

I've been a big fan of Oribe Brilliance and Shine lineas my hair can be ultra dry and frizzy (I'm healing after going blonde!) This actually make my hair soft and controllable!

Oribe Shampoo for Brilliance & Shine 8.5 oz/ 250 mL

Oribe Conditioner for Brilliance & Shine 6.8 oz/ 200 mL

OLAPLEX for the ends! Locks moisture in and keeps my locks mosterized until my next wash. I love all of olaplex. If you have ever colored or bleached your hair these products keep your hair as healthy as can be.

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Frizz Reduction & Heat Protectant Hair Oil 1 oz/ 30 mL

Sol de Jeneiro's Milky leave in conditioner for after shower.  This one was new for me! The scent is strong but I actually like it. Has a summery coconut scent. I was impressed with this one. Makes my strands smooth and so so soft.

Skin Care favorites

This one is my go to this summer when I want to feel juicy. I love the scent and the way it goes on is so yummy its my favorite step.

Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Refillable Moisturizer 

I love the tatcha line and when I feel like my skin is dull or needs a light exfoliation I use the rice wash! Its so creamy and softening.

Tatcha The Rice Wash Skin-Softening Cleanser 

I just got this one but I'm already in love! Caudalie is always a treat. I love how milky and light this one is! Its also so gentle.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum 

The majority of my other products are k-beauty brands. I love how light and gentle the ingredients are, especially for summer and especially because I use tret nightly.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Cream<- MY lifesaver when my skin is red and needs some extra love! It really calms the skin down.

Beauty of Joseon

Their sunscreen and glow deep serum are my ultimate favs. The suncreen is non-oily and light with minimal shine. It also has additional sun block filters not commonly used in the US but are used religiously in other parts of the world. (The FDA seriously needs to get on this! We need more sun block options!)

Their serums are so light and gentle and just so enjoyable to use. The Glow Deep Serum is an affordable and effective serum!

COSRX

This brand is a total power house of products! I adore their pimple patches, their sunscreens, and their cleansers. Everything is so gentle and packed with amazing ingredients! I def recommend exploring their products!

If you're interested in k-beauty thats affordable I recommend sites like Jolse for low price but awesome products. Soko glam is also great but a little more pricey!

Right? I mean, at least give us Uvinul A Plus for UVA I protection, since it's photostable unlike avobenzone which needs other filters for stabilization. Ideally we'd get tinosorbs too, though they can leave a white cast (similar to zinc oxide) on medium and deeper skin tones. Example: the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen leaves a very white cast on my medium-deep skin, but only where it pools in my lines. So I keep that sunscreen away from my eye area and off my neck. 

The FDA's dragging its feet on UV filters, even after raising a big ol' fuss over all the chemical filters they permit US manufacturers to use. I mean the FDA's typically slow as a sloth in molasses anyway, but after scaring people away from chemical filters, the least they can do is faster and smarter UV filter reviews and approvals.

@mamadanielle Awesome faves! I too am an Oribe fan -- I love their Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray 8.5 oz / 300 mL especially, but told myself I need to get through more of my current hair stash before I splurge on any big-ticket hair replens!

@mamadanielle I'm also having a love affair with Tatcha right now!  Wish I wasn't since they're a little more pricey but...you know how it is.  I've also heard really good things about the Beauty of Joseon line!  Have you tried much from them?

This is the first month that I’ve been breaking my low buy and also the first month where I’ve had to do my makeup every single day. 
My favorite makeup product of the month is the Smashbox Smashbox X Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector  which is such an oldie it isn’t even sold by it’s original creator.  Early mornings mean that my under eye circles need any TLC that they can get.

My haircare favorite of the month is JVN Nurture Hydrating Shampoo 10 oz/ 295 mL. It smells wonderful, lathers beautifully and gets me closer to my shiny hair dreams. 
for skincare, my favorite product is the #Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream Plumping &amp; Hydrating Moisturizer.  It really does plump up my skin nicely.

@Nickelliebear1, the scent on the JVN hydrating shampoo is so good. I like a couple of products from the hydrate line and am interested in trying out his other shampoos.

@Nickelliebear1 So glad to hear you're loving JVN! I've been meaning to try out one of the shampoos, so maybe that will be my next hair purchase when I'm done with my current bottle of Olaplex 🙂

@AlexBT   I feel like I may have needed more time with that copper serum than my deluxe sample delivered- or that one of my other products was already performing it’s task and I just didn’t notice any changes in my skin.  Everyone seems to love it and my skin didn’t get worse while using it so it must have been maintaining something😅
 I’m putting that Color Wow on my list.  I love products that deliver shine!!!  Is it lightweight or a more heavy serum?

@heartsmyface Excellent tips already below but I'll tack on -- yes it's a super lightweight spray! I usually just spray each sectioned-off handful of my damp hair before using my Dyson airwrap 😉 But I know some people use it as a finishing spray as well.
