Why did I receive a sample in the wrong shade?

I received Bye Bye undereye in medium despite my profile indicating that I'm fair. I was under the impression that are profile dictates the samples we receive. I'm not interested in spending money on a sample box when I don't even have the option of using the sample. Am I wrong that our profiles play a role in what samples are put in our bag?
