Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Hmm I think it was LAWLESS Mini The Little One Talc-Free Eyeshadow Palette after having my little man I noticed my eyes have gotten more sensitive and all the eyeshadow I had used seemed to irritate my eyes more! I remember getting LAWLESS Mini Forget The Filler Lip Plumper Line Smoothing Gloss Rosy Outlook  also shortly after maybe.

🥛🍪 Week 41 (October 7 - 13) - The "Dynamic Duos (or Trios)" Makeup Capsule and/or The "Products with Interesting / Attention-Grabbing Names" Makeup Capsule 🥛🍪 -  Are there certain combinations of products that are just so exceptionally well suited for you, be it a go-to lip liner and lipstick pairing, or a smokey eye and red lip combination that slays, or a blush and highlighter mix that makes your cheeks pop? Curate a capsule that incorporates your all-star beauty combinations. 

OR, put together a capsule with products bearing interesting or attention-grabbing names. I'll leave it to you to define what falls within the definition of "interesting" or "attention-grabbing".

💰🌎 Week 43 (October 21 - 27) - The "How Low Can I Go?" Makeup Capsule and/or The Global Makeup Capsule 💰🌎 - Two new themes this week - curate a capsule inspired by one or the other, or both. 

You may be asking, for the "How Low Can I Go?" prompt,  What do you mean by "low", Fi? Like the green capsule we did back in Week 17 (April, 2024), you tell me what "low" means to you this week. Low can mean:

• minimalist - as in the number of makeup products you will use this week
• budget friendly - are the makeup beauties in this week's capsule awesome and affordable?
• low-key - like this fall's demure makeup trend
• other: your definition of "low" for this capsule prompt

October 24 is United Nations Day, a day that is intended to be "devoted to raising awareness of the goals and achievements of the [United Nations] and gaining support for its work." I imagine so many things can be said here; I am intending that this prompt be an opportunity for folks who so desire to do so, to create a makeup capsule consisting of products or brands from around the world. This can be one or more product. It can be based on a brand with a founder born, raised or based in a country that is different from yours. It can be as simple (a US-based BIC'er including a product from a Canadian brand - e.g., MAC, Cheekbone, Nudestix; or a Canadian-based BIC'er using a product from a US brand) or as diverse as you want to make it (having a product from a brand based in each continent, though probably not Antarctica; a Japanese beauty or Korean beauty based makeup capsule, etc.). 

😴🛌⏰Week 44 (October 28 - November 3) - The "Sleeper Hits" Makeup Capsule and/or The October 2024 Throw Down, Throwback, and/or Throw Out? Makeup Capsule 😴🛌⏰ -  In honor of clocks "falling back" for Daylight Savings Time in the wee hours of the morning (2am) on Sunday, November 3 (except for those States and US territories that do not observe Daylight Savings Time), let's celebrate getting an extra hour of sleep by curating a capsule of the beauty products that were/are sleeping hits for you. 

"Sleeper hits" can mean -

• A product in your makeup collection that has become a surprise hit for you
• Something that wasn't a success on initial release (or on your first try) but became a well loved product for you over timer
• The underrated beauties in your collection - could be a product or brand, or both
• A makeup trend that you didn't think would work for you, but now you can't imagine being without

OR,

Throw Down! - use the week to pit 2 or more products together to see which one(s) reign supreme

Throwback - add an extra level of fun to this week's capsule with a nod to: the bold colors of the 80s; or the edgy grunge aesthetics of the 90s; or the "frosted lips, glossy lids, and skinny brows of the early aughts; or the contour, baking, and cut crease trends made popular by IG in the 2010s; or the TikTok influenced looks of this decade, including this fall's demure movement. • SEPHORA COLLECTION Reveal The Real 12HR Soft Radiant Skin Tint* has been such a surprise. At the moment, I mix it with either First Aid Beauty Bronze + Glow Drops with Niacinamide 1 oz / 30 ml or Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi™ Bronzing Drops with Peptides*
• Dr. Jart+ Mini Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30 15 mL/ .50 fl oz can act as a primer, color corrector / concealer and SPF. I tend to use it to prime and conceal redness. 
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Translucent Loose Setting Powder* (gratis) - I'm determined to finish up this jar. If I'm being realistic, it won't happen this year but I'll keep chipping away at it. 
• Dior Forever Perfect Fix Face Mist Makeup Setting Spray - Long Wear & Instant Hydration has been an oft-reached for setting spray. I have really enjoyed the results when I pair it with the GUERLAIN Parure Gold 24K Radiance Primer 1.2 oz / 35 mL 
• Tatcha Mini Liquid Silk Canvas: Featherweight Protective Primer 0.35 oz/ 10g* is one I have been testing for a bit. It's nice but there's something about it that doesn't quite work with my skin on a consistent basis. It seems to pill around my lips and between my eyes, regardless of how much I moiturize those areas. 
• NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer with Medium Coverage* is an oldie but goodie - great or the under eye and for concealing blemishes.
• HAUS LABS BY LADY GAGA Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-puffing Concealer with Fermented Arnica is a current concealer go-to for me. 
• Tower 28 Beauty SunnyDays SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Foundation* = 🐐 - enough said.
• SEPHORA COLLECTION Microsmooth Multi-Tasking Baked Face Palette is a longstanding favorite of mind, used as either a powder foundation or a setting powder, or both.
• Gucci Brume de Beauté Beauty Mist 2.7 oz / 80 mL - I couldn't not bring this with me to Atlanta. 🐐
• Urban Decay Face Bond Self Setting Waterproof Foundation* - the self-setting and long wearing features of this foundation is an ideal one for running to and fro at an event like Sephoria. Do my face in the morning and no need to worry about it.

• Melt Cosmetics eye liner - this shade (Apricot Cream) works better as an undereye concealer / corrector on me
• NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original* = 🐐 but I fear it is being phased out / discontinued
• Thrive Causmetics eyeshadow stick - Bronze - perhaps a throwdown with the BB eyeshadow stick for these in the future. For now, I prefer to have them both in my collection.
• MERIT Brow 1980 Volumizing Tinted Eyebrow Gel-Pomade - I forgot how much I like this.

• Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil Stain Delight* is a loved product - it looks deep red in the tube (and we all know that while I love red in general, red lipsticks can be daunting for me). This one goes on much more muted and less opaquee and leaves a beautiful stain.
• Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Peptide Lip Treatment Gloss Unhooked* - this was the lippie that I carried with me to Sephoria. It was usually a topper when getting ready in the morning but was what I used for touch up throughout the sessions.

The Week In Review: 

🏆  Top Shelf  - I rarely, if ever (emphasis on "if ever") go for orange hued shades. That said, I have been making more of an effort to trying them and looking into finding one (possibly two) that might make my ultimate makeup collection. Me think Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask in Kiku Kiku - Orange Blossom might be one of those two shades. It would make sense then that this is limited edition. Not sure whether I will pick up another one before they run out - what am I saying?! Of course, I'll pick up another one. 😉

💗  The Standouts - Soooo, my initial plan was to spend more time doing my makeup for SEPHORiA. Weeeeelll, that didn't quite happen. I'm a creature of habit so I just went with what I know and reached (mostly) for those beauties that I reach for every day, the ones I loooove. Some are 🐐 (GOATs), others are ones that have made their way to the Top Shelf here, and some may be making their way to one or both of those categories soon enough. I highlighted my standouts for the week in bold italics above.

Beautiful well crafted capsule! I immediately spotted the Halloween decor cloth! Such a neat concept! These capsules are so helpful in introducing and sharing thoughts on products and brands some of these brands I’ve never tried I really love the connection to Sephoria and the honorable mentions of the attendees products it’s a different way to connect to the event even if I wasn’t there. Would definatley love to see the Tatcha swatch. These are beautiful picks. Love how everything is connected 💕 @itsfi

Ahhh, thank you so much @peculiarzmakeup! I wanted to find a way for everyone to be a part of SEPHORiA 2024, or have it be a part of everyone's everyday looks. I spent a lot of time talking with brand reps and founders at last year's SEPHORiA, documenting as many moments as I could. This year, I focused more on the masterclasses and just being with the other ambassadors and BIC beauties that I haven't seen in a year. Here's the swatch of the Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask in Kiku Kiku - Orange Blossom 

The limited edition kissu lip mask is an annual treat I pick up for myself. I was a little hesitant about this one because I'm a little gun-shy about orange shades but decided to give it a try. It's not a color family I have a lot of in my collection and it's nice to break out of my comfort zone every now and again.

Speaking of getting out of my comfort zone, a trip to the YSL booth at SEPHORiA and time with their rep (who was so great to chat with!) has resulted in 2 more of their liquid blushes to my list for the next sale, including the Yves Saint Laurent Make Me Blush 12H Blurring Liquid Blush 57 Coral Clash.

@peculiarzmakeup, I think the Tatcha Orange Blossom would look stunning on you. Come to think of it, I can't imagine there being a lip shade you couldn't pull off beautifully. I've never seen a bad lip color on you.

I am debating picking up the Sephora Collection skin tint during the next sale - debating because no, I don't need any more complexion products 😅 but I'd love to try this one. May need to swatch a couple of shades in store first though.

I love your ghostie background - is it a scarf, or a blanket? And the beautiful orange/fall-hued flowers of course! Glad you are liking the Tatcha holiday lip mask - I love their lip mask the most out of all the lip masks I've tried, and their limited editions (and their packaging) are always so beautiful, I can never resist picking them up.

@caitbird, if you can find a good shade match, I highly recommend the SEPHORA COLLECTION Reveal The Real 12HR Soft Radiant Skin Tint - something about it keeps me going back to it. It blurs in a very natural way and the radiance is more of a your skin but better healthy radiance. There you have, that combo is what makes it so appealing to me. 😊 Just talking about these things with folks on BIC helps. Ha! I like mixing this with my bronzing serums to make it workable all year round. 

Awww, thank you! Believe it or not, that ghostie background is a bag from TJ Maxx, the ones available across the checkout registers - it was $0.99, if I'm remembering right. Tagging @peculiarzmakeup for this as well. I didn't technically need another bag but this one was too cute to pass up. They still have a bunch of them in store.

The flowers I picked up for my hotel room. With the wind and rain from Hurricane Helene, I was wanting something bright and homey for my room. 💐 I love having flowers in various rooms in my home or on my work desk so I picked these up when I went to the grocery store for water, fruit and snacks.

I love TJ Maxx (and HomeGoods) bags, I have several myself. They're good bags, they hold a lot! And at $0.99 each, how can you go wrong? 😂

Ohhhh, HomeGoods - it’s a dangerous place  @caitbird. So many things to be distracted by. The closest one to me is a 45-60 minute drive so I don’t get there often. It’s connected to a TJ Maxx so double the trouble when I do make my way there. 😆

You have such a mighty arsenal in this capsule! I love seeing something reach loved status so quickly. The sounds of Tatcha's new lip mask are pretty good. I think I've seen at least a few pics on BIC of wear tests and it looks like a very pretty shade. 🧡 @itsfi 

I like you choice of capsule bags for this challenge, the windows let you easily see everything inside. 😍 I think that might bring a little peace of mind traveling. If you weren't sure it was packed, it would be easy to look and see. 😉

Taking photos of this week's capsule was both fun and sobering @CynthieLu! Fun in that taking photos was done "on location" 🤣 with different lighting and backgrounds than what I'm familiar with. Sobering, as it shows just how much stuff I have, and this is just what I brought with me, which is admittedly, overkill, but you know ... options. hahaha!

Thanks for reminding me about the Tatcha lippie. Meant to post the swatch - it's pretty pink-y peach shade on me.
