What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
Cooler temps forecasted for today 🎉 - it started cooling down late in the evening so that made for better sleep which is always a plus @CynthieLu. 👍🏼 It’s all good about the capsule - these things happen and we adjust accordingly. I’ll either revisit the musician founded theme or just sprinkle in the products I didn’t get to over the next 12 weeks - I can’t believe we’ll be at the end of the year in that amount of time. 😳
Hurray for cooler sleeps 💤 A good rest, especially after a busy week is going to be so good for you. 🩷
Eeep you are right! The countdown to the end of the year is here, it is hard to believe it. @itsfi I think I'm going to need a to do list to keep myself organized in these next few months, my family is super huge and I hope I can go into this holiday with an organized approach. If I say it now.. hopefully it means I'll do it 😅
Oh @CynthieLu, if you find a way to stay organized with the flurry of the holidays, let us know. 😂 I think I'm on top of it and then as it gets closer and closer, I think "aaaaccckkk!!!! I have this to do ... and this... and that..." I don't have a large family and it can be so overwhelming so kudos to you for keeping it all together! Your holiday season will start soon with Thanksgiving next week / end of this week, yes?
This was going to be for Week 39: The Brands at SEPHORiA Makeup Capsule, except that I am late as usual 🙈 but come to think of it, I guess this capsule could technically count as an entry for Week 40: The Musician Founded or Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule, with some of the brands included...so I guess I'll go with that 😅

The fit:
er...😅 I actually think it would have fit if I'd left out the palettes/put them in a separate makeup bag. But I have to admit, this capsule was pretty...bodacious 🤣
The look:
My mom said my eye makeup was "crazy" but I had fun with it 😅
Incredible capsule! I love how it is structured it’s so neat to see the emojis and the correlation to the weeks themes! Gorgeous look! Beautiful eyes love the green top to match! The layout of your capsule is so neat and I love your picks! Amazing job 🙂 @caitbird I like how you mentioned the capsules tying in with one another it’s always fun when doing a capsule to remember a previous one or one coming up and see how it relates! So cool! 😎
@peculiarzmakeup thanks so much! I definitely had fun with this capsule and look, I wish I was able to participate more in these challenges more often but I like to when I can! And I love seeing everyone else's capsules and looks too 💜
I always enjoy your contributions your amazing! Thanks for the cool capsule I love reading and seeing everyone’s neat take on things! I know what you mean ❤️ @caitbird
@peculiarzmakeup aww thank you, you too! 💜
@caitbird What a fun capsule! All of the colourful palettes are reminding me of Sephoria! Your eyeshadow look is gorgeous! 💚
Okay @caitbird, I have to know - those earrings are darling! Are they heavy?
@itsfi thank you! They are a tiny bit on the heavier side in that I am definitely aware that I am wearing them, but they don't hurt my ears or anything. I was able to wear them for 8-10 hours no problem.
I enjoy a chaotic fit so much, 🤣 @caitbird
I really like that eye look, it's bold and it's complimentary. I guess it's just too bold for Mom 😞
@danielledanielle thank you so much! My mom does her makeup much more subtle, she just doesn't understand my love for bright colors 😂
Look at all those beauties @caitbird ❣️Bodacious indeed!! It’s all good with timing - sometimes we get to a theme a little later or we stay on a theme for weeks and weeks. We have lives outside of BIC and that comes first. Also, with the latter, that may just indicate a capsule or a repeat product works for you.
Oh, lash primer!! I seem to be forgetting that these days. Good reminder!
@itsfi thank you! I am glad this is a fun and casual group to participate in, I am way too scattered most days to be able to do anything super formal and structured 😅
I mostly included the lash primer so I could include one more brand at Sephoria (Tarte), but I do think it gives my lashes a little more oomph, when I remember to use it. I have a few lash primers and haven't really figured out yet which one works best for me, or which mascara + primer combo is my go-to - that might be another battle idea for the future!
@caitbird, I always enjoy seeing your posts, be it on this thread or the other fabulous threads on the BIC. Love that your marvelous personality and style comes through and through - my wallet, however, has some serious concerns that your hauls are going to be a bad influence on my already ... robust .. candle collection and your fabulous jewelry collection is going to give me something new to look into - hahaha!
I completely understand and appreciate the need or desire for things to be casual, easy. At the same time, I do love structure too. Ha! But I do love that we can float in and out here as we can or need; another one of the fabulous things about the BIC.
Oh, the primer + mascara combo is always something worth pursuing. It could definitely fit well in next week's "dynamic duo" theme. This conversation is actually making me thnk I need to pull out my lash primers.
Some miscellaneous notes on a few products:
This was my first time trying the Makeup by Mario blush, the Rare Beauty liquid highlighter, and the Natasha Denona concealer. The ND concealer is a new-to-me shade of a formula I have and really like in another shade (RN1), because I found that that shade was a touch too pale for my undereye dark circles in particular. Will need to test this new shade some more to know for sure, but so far it does seem to be a better shade match for me, as I'd hoped. The MBM blush and RB highlighter I also definitely want to use and experiment with more, but so far my impression is very positive for both!
I feel like I've been sleeping on Glossier Boy Brow, because at some point I'd decided that I liked MILK MAKEUP KUSH Fiber Eyebrow Gel Dub slightly better, so I've been pretty much exclusively using that one as my tinted brow gel for a little while now. But using the Glossier today made me feel like I'd been selling it short, and reminded me that I do really like it. So I think I'll need to do a proper battle of the brow gels someday soon!
@caitbird, I had a similar experience with the Glossier years back. Used it, thought it was fine; then went back to use it another time and it’s been the one brow gel I always have on hand. I’m not sure why but I don’t think I knew MILK had an eyebrow product. 🤔 I’m very interested on how your battle of the brows turns out this week.
Tagging @ather because she loves these beauty battles and we were just talking about brow products on another thread. A, have you tried MILK’s brow product?
@itsfi Oooo yes! I love a good battle! Battle of the brow seems fit! Maybe I can join in and try all the ones I have open!!
Yes, yes, do join in @ather; it would be great to get your take on the brow gels that you currently have in your rotation. No better way to know how they perform vis-a-vis one another than with a good ol' battle royale!
