Love for Brushes

I'm developing a love for brushes of all kinds.  I bought a few higher end brushes and they are amazing.  They are incredibly soft and my makeup glides on like a dream.  There are so many interesting shapes. I am really interested in creating a beautiful brush collection.  Show your brushes and share any cleaning and storage tips and let us know which ones are your favorites.

Dear @danielledanielle

Yes, you need to get it.

Sincerely,

Science

Hahaha! It's soooo cute. I wasn't expecting it to be so cute - happy that it is though! Gotta give props to the design team. Well done!!

Re: Love for Brushes

I want to buy some quality makeup brushes, because I used to use some kind of noname ones before.

Re: Love for Brushes

@mary0jones I think it's a good idea to start out with less expensive brushes and once you get familiar with the shape of brushes you enjoy, build up to more expensive ones (in my opinion). Luxury brushes can get pricey, but great items to put on your wish list.

Re: Love for Brushes

What are you thinking of trying @mary0jones ?

Re: Love for Brushes

So much for slowing down, I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️💸

Re: Love for Brushes

@danielledanielle those are so pretty.

Re: Love for Brushes

@danielledanielle  I was gonna force myself to ignore this launch/relaunch, but then I saw the mini keyaki sheer buffer. Since then, I’ve tried convincing myself I don’t need that brush because I already have the long-handled sheer buffer. But my need to have all the keyaki brushes is winning this debate so far. (I have volumes 1 and 2.)

There’s also a long-handled mini sheer buffer coming too, with a smaller head than the regular sheer buffer. Details and comparisons are at Sweet Makeup Temptations.

In case anyone’s wondering: the mini keyaki buffer (in the first image, it’s the bottom farthest right brush) isn’t just a brush, it’s a magic wand. I sometimes use it to apply things over tinted sunscreens and it doesn’t disturb that sunscreen base. I’m glad to see it coming back, along with all the other keyakis being available for individual sale (though Sonia says they’re not permanent).

Re: Love for Brushes

@WinglessOne  You are soo right about the sheer buffer.  I wasn't super thrilled to receive that in a Lucky Bag last year, but now I'm really glad I did.  It's perfect for stick blushes.

Re: Love for Brushes

@WinglessOne, my eyes immediately locked on (mini) sheer buffer.  It was as if my soul knew, 🤣 I can probably pass (let's hope 💸) on the holder because her brush holders are more than I'd like to pay for, I purchased one during the last GC event, but was a but turned off by the size.  It holds a lot, wish it were just a bit larger.  Kind of glad I missed out on the brush book.

Re: Love for Brushes

@danielledanielle  The price of the wooden holders also keeps me from buying one. They’re beautiful though! The brush book (and the upcoming mini book) is an easy pass for me because I already have esum’s brush book that doubles as a travel makeup case for me, and that one’s a bit more protective than Sonia’s soft sided books.

I’ve decided to skip the Beautylish Lucky Bag this year and buy a keyaki sheer buffer instead, since they’ll supposedly launch at the same time. 😂 I’ve got some points to use toward that brush so I might as well, right? If lots of other folks plan also plan to grab that brush, I hope we both manage to snag one!

Re: Love for Brushes

@WinglessOne, I, of course, looked up Esum's booklet.  That is a very nice alternative...thanks for the (inadvertent) heads up!

Re: Love for Brushes

What a beautiful collection! I don’t have a full set of brushes from any collection from except Sephora’s which I really love I may aspire for one in the new year thanks for sharing 🙂 @danielledanielle

Re: Love for Brushes

Ooh, they look beautiful, @danielledanielle!

Re: Love for Brushes

Does anyone know of a good Eyeshadow and blush brush that is retractable? I need one on the go that can tumble in my medium sized purse without getting dirty. Animal or synthetic hair is fine. Thanks.

Re: Love for Brushes

@Buootiful  The only eyeshadow brushes that come to mind are the Chikuhodo K series which are all retractable. The face brushes are sokoho goat hair, and I think the eye brushes are weasel. Oh, and the MK (Maki-e) series has a couple retractable grey squirrel face brushes. There’s no fluffy blender eyeshadow brush in either series, though.

You’ve got more options for blush brushes: a retractable powder, bronzer, or kabuki brush can do blush, depending on your preferred application technique. If I wanna carry a cheek brush in my purse (vs. packing one for a trip, during which my brushes stay in my hotel room), it’s either the Hourglass Retractable Foundation Brush  for powder blush or the denser Hourglass Retractable Kabuki Brush for cream blush. I also have the retractable Charlotte Tilbury Air-Brush but I don’t carry it in my purse. Its main job is applying brightening powder (usually an Hourglass AL powder) to the center of my face, though I have used it for blush in a pinch. I personally think all 3 of these brushes are overpriced for what they are, but they do work well. I can take some comparison photos of them if you’d like, to show their shape and size differences. (The CT brush is much larger than the HGs.) I really want one of Hakuhodo’s retractable Slide brushes for their flatter shape.

If you have a favorite cheek or eye brush that’ll fit in your purse (handles aren’t too long), you could always buy a small case for ‘em. Doesn’t even have to be something marketed as a brush case. A small pencil case could work. Heck, a plastic toothbrush travel case could work if you cover the air holes with something.

Re: Love for Brushes

Thans for the helpful info. The Chikuhodo sound interesting. Maybe I'll look for mini drawstring pouches to tie around the head 🤔 @WinglessOne

Re: Love for Brushes

Bisyodo and Chikuhodo make them with the lever handles so that the cover is also the base @Buootiful , @AMK721

Re: Love for Brushes

@Buootiful  what a great idea 💡. I don't have any recommendations right now but love the idea of retractable brushes 😀

Re: Love for Brushes

I am LOVING the Danessa Myricks Yummy brush 1.0 - waited for it to restock and cannot wait to grab the smaller 3.0 brush. The bristles are firm yet soft and the slope of the brush just works perfectly for foundations and other cream products. Definitely my fave of the ones I’ve bought from Sephora. But honestly, the BK Beauty brushes (currently on sale on their website) are just spectacular and worth every penny!! Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Face 1.0 All Over Complexion Brush - For Foundation, Blush, Bronzer & Powder

Re: Love for Brushes

That is a fantastic brush @AnnTru , I own multiples of it 😅

I think BK beauty usually does a BF sale, too.  (And Danessa!)

Re: Love for Brushes

I just placed an order direct from Huda (their CyberCraze sale is going on right now). I grabbed a couple of brushes because I'm curious about them and they were a great price. Has anyone used Huda brushes? What are your thoughts?
