Love for Brushes

I'm developing a love for brushes of all kinds.  I bought a few higher end brushes and they are amazing.  They are incredibly soft and my makeup glides on like a dream.  There are so many interesting shapes. I am really interested in creating a beautiful brush collection.  Show your brushes and share any cleaning and storage tips and let us know which ones are your favorites.

@SurprisedLemur  Beautylish deleted negative reviews? Geez, I didn't think they were like that (considering that's a Sephora thing to do.) Not a good sign!

@Harobedb  @SurprisedLemur  @danielledanielle  I skimmed reviews at Beautylish after the morning drop, again after the afternoon drop, and then a few days later. All negative reviews I saw were from folks who couldn’t get the brushes and complained about that—and there were lots of those reviews. I’d hoped to see reviews by people who got the set from the original launch that happened days earlier, but nope. I need to post a review myself, once I’ve used all 4 brushes. (Note to self.) 

I fully understand Beautylish deleting reviews from people who don’t even have the product in question. Each time I went back to check for reviews by anyone whose brushes had issues similar to mine, I noticed some non-product reviews had been deleted but new ones had sprung up. It’s frustrating to weed through those. People should complain about the site/order issues, but not on the product page.

@HarobedbYes I was very surprised as well, it's the first time I've seen them do that.

@SurprisedLemur& @Harobedb yeah, but I think A LOT of them were about the launch and asking for pre-sale, which were reasonable statements, but the review page wasn't the best place for it.  I feel bad for the CS department, but not Beautylish because this was handled poorly.

@WinglessOne Just received mine, the pencil brush is just like yours. Mini builder... Can't really discern if it's misshapen, but I've taken pics for comparison.

@danielledanielle  Thanks for sharing photos! Your Mini Builder looks more like it should, thank goodness. 

Your Soft Pencil does look like mine did upon arrival. Even after washing and drying, mine’s still tapered more on one side than the others. But the angle’s not as extreme as it was pre-wash. And now I wish Sonia would release a pencil shaped like these arrived: with a very intentional taper on one side, to make the pencil look like a very small marker. That’d be a unique (but still useful) pencil shape.

Beautylish Lunar Brush

I was on the beautylish website and I noticed that there was a new image of the Lunar year brush.

Seems like it might be what I predicted, which is a dragon! Was wondering if this an old brush beautylish accidentally posted or could this be a leak?

If so, I do wish the brush creators could do some new designs rather than the same similar brush. It seems like we are just keep buying duplicates with a ever so slightly different height or shape. The most different one they ever made was the year of the ox, which is more oval and I adore that brush! Perhaps an angled power brush or highlighter/ bronser brush.

 

I wish the brush would be something different, just my opinion.

What do you guys think, would like to hear your feedback, love this thread! 😊

The brush is now up on the Beautylist site, and the shape looks different from other brushes in the series...much more tapered. It goes live in 4 days...I am so on this brush! 🙂

I can definitely see wanting a new shape, @Salliestar!! But I've been waiting for this one to come around since it's my zodiac animal. I don't know (not that there's anything wrong with it!!) if they're thinking that people get all of them, versus ones that are special to them design or zodiac wise.

@SurprisedLemurI got the notification email to sign up this morning, so it'll probably go live in another day or two. I wish it was a different shape, but TBH, the dragon is so freaking cute, I know I'm gonna buy one!

Thanks @Harobedb ! I signed up 😊 I agree about the shapes. I would love something different, like an angled cheek brush, but I can see why they would go for a more universal shape.

It's the like preview image for the zodiac brushes in general if you're scrolling the brushes page, but the dragon option doesn't show up as a specific product option yet, @SurprisedLemur . At least on the CAD side.

@Salliestar  If that really is this year’s LNY Chikuhodo/Beautylish brush (hasn’t been posted to Beautylish US yet), it’s heckin’ adorable! I wasn’t going to buy one this year (trying to buy fewer brushes overall this year), but how am I supposed to resist that? 💜 

And yeah, I wouldn’t expect Chikuhodo to release any brush shape except a standard powder for Lunar New Year. I love Chikuhodo, but I can understand wanting a different shape of annual brush for once. I think they stick with the powder shape partly because it’s one most people will use or want. By contrast, Koyudo’s LNY brushes are always in different shapes; this year’s is a kabuki. Not that I recommend collecting yet another set of annual brushes 😅 but I’m just sayin’.

For anyone who missed out on the Sonia G. Sunset Cranes today (Beautylish released it in 2 separate drops today): Sonia has said on her Instagram that this set will be available again in January or February. So, be sure to add (or re-add) yourself to Beautylish’s email notifications for it. 

Yeah, Beautylish’s site was slow/glitchy as heck this morning: I tried the morning drop right at 10 AM PT and Beautylish’s site completely froze up: the checkout page wouldn’t even load for 5 minutes. I’m not the only person who had this problem, so I suspect there was a bot flood and/or the number of available sets was VERY small. As I told Beautylish’s customer service rep when I complained via chat afterward, not even Pat McGrath’s site has ever lagged that badly for me during a limited edition drop. Naturally the rep reminded me that Beautylish doesn’t reserve in-cart items and if an item sells out before I checkout then there’s nothing they can do and yeah whatever but see, the problem wasn’t that I was too slow—I had that set in cart between 10:00 and 10:01 AM PT and went directly to checkout—it was that the site malfunctioned. 😒 

But the rep did tell me about the second afternoon drop. So I tried again at 4 PM PT and got through checkout, and now my order shows as “confirmed,” hooray! I hope other folks who tried again this afternoon were successful, too! If not, the set’s coming back a  third  fourth* and (according to Sonia) final time in January or February. I sincerely wish you good luck if you try again at that time! 

And hey, wouldn’t it be funny if a set wound up in a Lucky Bag in January? 🙃 

*EDIT: really a fourth time, since today’s two drops were second and third chances after the initial launch.

@WinglessOne, I'm glad you were able to get your hands on this special set! The artwork is stunning! I did not try to get a set and am a bit relieved not to be in the fray you described.

Thanks @TraceyEB ! It was terrible this morning, and I’m sure customer service got lots of complaints. I’ve never seen a Sonia G. brush set sell out that fast (within 1-2 minutes), and the site issues made it all worse. Normally I’d skip a release like this just to avoid the inevitable craziness. But cranes are symbolically very special to me, especially this year for various reasons. So I had to try getting this set. But yeah, you dodged a lot of frustration!

I had been wondering about these 2 brushes for concealer since they're so hyped online. So far, I like them both. They need a bath though.
