What is a good eyeliner for people who are not so good? I want to buy something that makes it easy and doesn't go on thick.

Look into a liquid eyeliner marker, with a fine felt tip. This helped me when I was starting out because you can be precise and controlled without worrying about a brush bending around.

IMO the best eyeliner choice for a beginner is usually pencil eyeliner. Cream eyeliners often take a long time to use, and liquid eyeliner is expert level stuff. Pencil eyeliner is very forgiving, and you can work in small strokes to build up the line, or smudge out with a brush or Q-tip for a grungier look. You can also set with eyeshadow if you find longevity to be an issue.

My personal favourite eyeliner pencils are the Urban Decay 24/7 liners. These have amazing lasting power on me and I love the shade selection. That said, some people do report that this smudges on them; in that case, other options could be the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Pencils or Sephora Collection pencils. The Sephora brand eye pencils can be fairly hit or miss-- there are some I absolutely adore, but some that were awful--so it's best to swatch them in store.

I've used both Kat von D and Stila, and they're both the best eyeliners I've ever tried. I lean more toward KvD because I think their shade of black is a little stronger than Stila. When it comes to picking the best eyeliners for beginners, stick to ones that have a felt tip like a marker. Avoid ones with a brush applicator because they're more flimsy, and it's easy to mess up if you have shaky hands.

Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner in Trooper is truly the best! It's a super fine brush tip and the pen makes it really easy for beginners. It isn't too wet either so it isn't going to slip all over your eyes like non-pen liquid liners usually do. It's great if you have oily lids too, it doesn't break down easily.

I use Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. It has a very fine tip and is gentle on the eye lid. I can make careful lines without pulling the delicate skin around my eyes.
