Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Very pretty on you @sabrinas ! Thanks for your swatches too.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Will probably take some on-face photos tomorrow, if we get decent sunlight. (The weather suddenly remembered it's still spring, not summer yet.) But I did try everything on my face tonight and I'm very pleased.

First, a swatch of the new Lip Fetish shade I bought, just to show how pigmented this balm is on my natural lip coloring:

Left: my bare lips. Right: 1-2 coats of PMG Lip Fetish, Flesh 7. Photo taken in warm bathroom lighting.Left: my bare lips. Right: 1-2 coats of PMG Lip Fetish, Flesh 7. Photo taken in warm bathroom lighting.

Next, swatches of the 2 blush shades I bought vs. a few other blushes/highlighters a friend asked me to compare:

Didn't leave enough room for Hourglass Brilliant Nude, oops. :D It's up there though, really, honest. Might redo these swatches in natural daylight because my bathroom lighting skews temperature so much, and I didn't edit this photo's temp much tonight.Didn't leave enough room for Hourglass Brilliant Nude, oops. 😄 It's up there though, really, honest. Each PMG blush:

  • Feels creamy soft, and the pearl finish isn't gritty at all
  • Plays nice with my skin texture (then again, my skin's very well hydrated and moisturized today)
  • Doesn't cake/clump up in my oily zone's visible pores
  • Blends easily (I used my Rephr no. 5, a saikoho goat cheek brush)

A few longer notes:

Spoiler

Next time I apply Electric Bloom, I'll use my Chikuhodo Z-4—though I suspect that squirrel brush will also pick up a lot of product in the pan. To apply a sheer layer, you must either go into the pan with a VERY light hand or brush off (tapping-off alone won't do it) some of the excess before applying to your face.

With the Rephr goat brush, I over-applied Electric Bloom (oops) but had no problem toning it way down with a top layer of Desert Orchid. I layered Desert Orchid over just the apples of my cheeks, leaving a bolder layer of Electric Bloom as a face-lifting blush up to my temples. Blending these 2 shades together was very easy. It also showed me how pigmented Desert Orchid truly is: though it's close to my skin tone, it's opaque enough to cover up most (or all, if I want it to) of Electric Bloom. Desert Orchid's not a big bold color punch or screamin' bright highlighter, but it's no slouch.

That said, anyone who's in my "medium-deep to deep" skin tone range will be disappointed if you expect Desert Orchid to look very pigmented, beyond a soft gold pearly sheen, on your skin. Eh, that's not why I bought this shade. See, I normally use Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Collection Brilliant Nude as a center-of-face brightener (I never use concealer for that purpose). I figured Desert Orchid might be close enough to my skin tone that I can also use it the same way, for times when I don't want the full ethereal sparkly glow of Hourglass Brilliant Nude. I also planned to layer Desert Orchid with other blushes. Now that I've played with it in person, I want to try it as a brightener in my hollow tear troughs: it's more subtle than a true highlighter (which I sometimes use on that sunken skin) and its bisquey rosy base could make for a nice additional layer of color correction.

I'll have more thoughts after I've seen how both shades look in natural daylight and tested their daylong performance.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Thanks @WinglessOne , I like them on you!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Thank you @Sunnysmom @blackkitty2014 @SportyGirly125 @Ispend2much6 ! I still haven't done a full wear test for either of these blushes, or visited a local Sephora to see more shades in person. Hopefully I'll get to do that tomorrow or Tuesday.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne Thank you for your review.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Thx you for the review @WinglessOne . I also get Desert Orchid. Can’t wait until my arrive🥰

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne   You are so talented with how you use makeup! (I can't think of the right way to phrase that comment.)  I do think Desert Orchid suits you well, and Electric Bloom is nice for a brighter shade.  I knew I should have bought Flesh 7 (still can!)

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Wow, these are way warmer than they looked online.

Top- Cherish, bottom- Divine Rose

Top- Fleurtatious, bottom- Nymphette

These all look slightly warmer in real life; taken with indoor lighting.

To describe these as I see them (take with a grain of salt!)

Cherish is a bright pink with a good bit of coral in it.

Divine Rose is a plum.  Reminds me a little bit of  MAC Plum Foolery but a little warmer.

Fleurtatious reminds of a blush I have that is called Desert Pink, more beige than pink.

Nymphette is a peachy pink, sort of like a very pale Nars Orgasm.

They blend extremely easily.  The luminous finish of Nymphette is subtle and gorgeous!

The top ingredient for all of these shades is talc, except for Cherish- that shade contains no talc, thought I'd mention that as it can be an allergen.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Thx you for posting @Ispend2much6. You got all gorgeous shades.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@blackkitty2014   You're welcome!  Did you happen to order the eye quad?

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@Ispend2much6 I keep going back and forth on it and I missed the discount

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Those are so pretty, @Ispend2much6!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@CookieGirl1   Thanks- they really are!  I love the rose imprint on them too.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Thanks for the descriptions, @Ispend2much6 ! See, this is why I want to see Divine Rose in person: I want it to be a cool toned mauve, but some people are calling it a warmer plum... not that a warm plum blush is bad, it's just that I might already have something too similar. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying them!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@WinglessOne   If DIvine Rose was a cool-toned mauve, I'd be ecstatic, because that's what I was hoping for.  But it turns brown on me.  In fact, and I know I'm in the minority about this, they all looked pretty similar on my skin, except for Cherish, which was more orange.

So, sorry to tell you, I don't think it will match what you are looking for.  But if you get the chance to go to a Sephora and look at them, you will at least have it settled in your mind if you're missing out or not.  🙂

I know I am very cool-toned, but my son says I have a little olive in my skin, which is probably what makes it so hard for me to find blush shades that work.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@Ispend2much6 Ooooh so pretty! I love the look of cherish!!!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@Kim888Cherish certainly could brighten a complexion!  A light hand is probably needed for that one.

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

Yaaaay! Your blushes arrived @Ispend2much6! They're beautiful! 😍

Is the Desert Pink blush you referred to the one from Bobbi Brown?

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@itsfi   You know, I think that is the one!  It is more beige, but similar, to the BB.  Did you order any?

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@Ispend2much6, I passed on ordering the PMG blushes online; opting for the eyeshadow palette and the lip balms. I wanted to see the blushes up close and in real life. I may check out the blushes in store another day (or I'll just keep my eye on everyone's PMG hauls to get a better idea of the shades) - it seems that I have hauled more things than I originally planned on, so waiting to pick up a PMG blush would not be a bad thing in that regard. Hahaha!

Re: THE PAT McGRATH THREAD

@itsfi  That was a good decision!  The eye palette looks great; three of those shades aren't easily dupable, by Temptalia's post anyway.
