What's on your plate?

Hello there, ladies and gents!

Keeping in line with all the fun and interactive threads asking about your most recent halls, items you have your eyes on, what you're currently wearing, what's your hair routine, and more, I've decide to branch out and ask:

"What's on your plate?"

The beauty world doesn't just stop at skin care and cosmetics, it also goes hand in hand with your overall health and well-being, so with that, I'm curious to see what we're all chowing down and snacking on be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, or inbetween!

For those with apps that help count calories or to those who just want to keep a log, here's a place to share, possibly find and share some recipes, and even tips on maintaining a balanced diet.

Don't just share food items, but even drinks! I'm a huge fan of tea and at least have a cup of green tea a day (anti-oxidants) and drink plenty of water.

For lunch today, I had:

-Brown rice

-Steamed egg

-Steamed red snapper with green onion, sesame oil, and black pepper

-Gai lan (it's a type of Chinese vegetable/greens)

Now, tell me, Beauty Talk world, what do you have? 😄

Re: What's on your plate?

@heartsmyface  Your husband has good taste (a perfectly browned chicken,) and a good heart.  Guess it comes with the name. 😍

I know two people that caught covid from plane rides lately.  I hope you heal quickly!

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6  Thank you.   Oh no I hope it was mild for them!   I think it was caught on an end of trip side quest going off when symptoms started but there’s no real way of knowing.  I’ve got a much lower viral load today so here’s hoping tomorrow I will be released!  This time it wasn’t so so bad though I did have Covid in the summer so I was still pretty amped up on antibodies.

Re: What's on your plate?

@heartsmyface  It catches me off guard how it seems like covid starts in late spring and it just doesn't stop until the next spring.  Hopefully this year will be different.  And I'm very glad you have antibodies.

Re: What's on your plate?

I think I'm gravitating to this thread too frequently lately. 🙂

I baked shortbread for my husband's co-worker whose mother passed away; I hope she can enjoy it with sweet memories of her mom (she always requests this cookie from me.)

A new favorite/easy meal for rotation.  I layer chopped zucchini, a can of black beans, one package of chicken tenders, and a jar of Trader Joe's Cowboy Salsa (any corn/bean salsa will have a similar result.)  Cover and bake at 350.  You can add cheese towards the end if you'd like.

It's really good!

Re: What's on your plate?

Looks amazing and so flavorful I bet it was delicious @Ispend2much6

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 How thoughtful of you to bake for a friend. I am sure it warmed her soul in a time of grief.

The chicken bake is a wonderful idea. I am always looking for one dish meals to make after work.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185  Thank you!  Baking for a friend is actually a selfish endeavor.  That way I won't eat more baked goods than I should; I'll just "steal" a little bit.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 Haha it sounds like a win win situation to me!

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185  Thanks for having my back. 🙂

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 Oh my gosh, that chicken bake thingie sounds so yummy!

Re: What's on your plate?

@CookieGirl1  It really is!  And, it's low-fat.

It's actually one of the meals I'm trying to make for work lunches instead of shelling out $$$ for lunchmeat.  For us, this provided 4 meals, at $3 apiece.  I remember when that would seem like an expensive meal, but  not today!

Re: What's on your plate?

I can smell your delicious short bread from here @Ispend2much6 😻

Re: What's on your plate?

@CynthieLu  What can I say- it’s “butter season.” 😂

Re: What's on your plate?

It's apple season!  We have a produce, beef, and apple farm 5 minutes up the road.  They also have a bakery, which I ignore.

They have a huge variety of apples; they are full of flavor; better than grocery store apples.  They even grow an heirloom European variety, Spitzenburg, which is rarely grown elsewhere.  It has the most interesting flavor; layers of flavor- sweet, tart, floral, spice.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 Wow! Apple season is the best. I ended up apple picking with my mom and sister. It is always a fun experience. Do you have a favourite type of apple? You made some beautiful and tasty looking dishes. I ended up buying an apple pie from the farm to share with coworkers. I am sure your homemade treats were amazing. I bet your house smelled wonderful while baking these.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185  You must be really strong to haul your apples from the orchard to the car!  The orchard near us grew an heirloom variety called Spitzenburg.  That and a couple of other varieties that were new to me were really good (wish I'd written down their names!)

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 if I have to be strong for the apples, I will be. Thankfully, my sister brought a wagon. Although, I opten to take them out because I didnt want them getting bruised. My favourite is the Silken. I have only seen them at the one orchard I go to. Do you prefer tarte or sweet apples for eating? I find the silken is a perfect in between. It also has a nice snap to it when you bite into it.

Re: What's on your plate?

@Mellmars1185  I have never heard of Silken!  I wish I could, but I can't eat raw apples.  I can't digest them.  However, that means I "have" to bake with them.  I, and my family, find that to be a happy situation.  So for baking I like at least some tartness.

You probably have a lot of varieties available to you because of your climate.  We live in the southern US, and apples don't grow very well here.  We are probably at the southernmost locale where they can grow well, except for California. lol

Re: What's on your plate?

@Ispend2much6 I am sure your family is pleased with the baked goods 🥧☺️. Yes we do have a a wide variety of apples at the orchard. I find there are only about 3 varieties at any time.

Re: What's on your plate?

Oh my goodness, @Ispend2much6, you've been BUSY!  Those all look so delicious 😋.

Re: What's on your plate?

@CookieGirl1  I have to bake- it makes my family happy. 🙂
