Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

2026 has arrived and so has YEAR NINE (9) of the Pan It! Challenge 🍾

20262026

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler

  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!

Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler

  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee Ohhh I like the idea of using up a dollar value of product!  Very smart way to see if you're buying more than using!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee That made me smile! Those are incredible goals and I can't wait to watch your progress!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@KeriCherryDee, those are some impressive use goals. I'm not sure I've tracked or even thought about how long it takes to get through a standard bottle of shampoo and conditioner; it'll be interesting to see your final results.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Fabulous goals, @KeriCherryDee !! I agree, I liked the way @Samtian did empties last year.

I also need to really work toward a number out for each in for my collection, but that's a future challenge lol.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Going to try a project for 2026! I went through all of my makeup for an Instagram sped up version of the Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory and have definitely been trying to be more in a use your makeup mode the past bit. So I'm putting stuff in my project pan challenge that I want to use a lot, but I'll also be trying to use a bit more of my collection using the Shop Your Stash Challenge: Winter 2026 ❄️ challenges throughout the year. This I hope will help me balance. I tend to volley between wanting to use my project pan items because I want to 'win' the challenge and being boxed in by the task, so am hoping doing both challenges will help with this.

The Items

Full Pans

1000042438.png

  • Kokie Be Bright Concealer - It's getting down there, but I have a huge backup. I also got one from TopBox to try and it's made its way into regular rotation and I need to push this to the focus to finish it for good.
  • INMO By Magnolia Eye-Lighter (Blue) - I have a too large collection of these type of eyeshadow products from subscription boxes. I've been trying to go through a few each year, but it's not my preferred eyeshadow outside of a lazy/quick makeup day. I do have to like use a mixing medium every few days to reactivate it, which is annoying, so am wanting to get through it this year.
Spoiler
I did end up using it with another project pan item (Ace Beauté shadow) and liked the look, so am going to keep trying that.
1000042441.jpg
  • Violet Voss Dream Glitter Topper Liquid Eyeshadow - similar to the one above l have a lot of these and want to use them up. This one has a nice formula still though. Will use as a base most likely.
  • Ace Beauté Glimmer Shadow (French Vanilla) - I don't much use single shadows (whether stand alone or magnetic), so I'd like to have at least one in my vanity to use for days I'm running too late to do a full beat. I have a significant pan already in this, so I expect it'll go quickly, hopefully.
  • Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush (Drama Cla$$) - I panned this in a project pan a few years ago, but haven't made much progress since then. Going to try to get this pan much bigger and ideally use up.
  • Tower 28 Beauty BeachPlease Lip + Cheek Dewy Cream Blush Golden Hour and Melt Sandy Cheeks - I hit pan in both of these the past year. They're some of my favorite blushes. I'd like to try to use both of them up this year. I feel like the Tower 28 that'll be a little more likely but I have a back up of Sandy Cheeks (it's my favorite), so I want to use it up as well.
  • Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Cream Highlighter Peau de Soleil (Gratis, thanks TeamBIC) - Got this in a gratis a few(?) years ago. I've hit pan, but haven't managed to fully use up. I use this as a bronzer and I'd like to get it full used up by the end of the year (why does it take so long to use up a bronzer??). I do tend to use this more in the warmer months, so I'm not going to beat myself up too bad if there's not the progress at first.
  • Becca Hydra-Mist Powder - There's a bit of a Ciate powder mixed in because the packaging broke lol. I so rarely use powder, but I've moved to a more humid climate, so I'm using fair but more. There's so little left, I think this is possible.
  • Lipsticks - I did a full lipstick collection swatch book (I'll post soon, once it's organized) and these are the set that really need to go soon. Going to try to use these all up.

Hit Pan

1000042439.png

  •  Becca Highlighter (Champagne Pop) - The OG. I only have a mini. It's a little crumbly, so I want to hit pan before it shatters lol. Plus the brand doesn't entirely exist anymore, although I think is available from Smashbox. I like using a powder highlight on top of my cream ones after setting spray, so hopefully will be able to hit a little pan.
  • Fenty Beauty Killawatt Foil Highlight Palette - I want to hit pan on 2 shades. I'm close on Chillz (top right), the second one will be a little harder. These shades aren't all highlighters for me, they work a bit as blush/eyeshadow, but I'd like to get some more use out of this in general.
  • ND Bloom Palette - I'd like to hit pan in all shades. I don't support this brand (everything either came from a subscription or mystery box), so am trying to use up stuff and move it out of my collection. There's a bit of a dip in the two left shades, but the others are going to be harder.
  • Ciaté London Glitter Storm Palette - I'm going to try to pan a palette!! This is one of my original palettes in my collection and I have dips in many of the shades. So this will be my go to palette when I'm not using ones from my palettes of shame pile (those I haven't used ever).

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv , Is The Violet Voss Dream Glitter Topper Liquid Eyeshadow Become Something You Reach For More Often Since Hitting Pan?

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv  love this collection of products and goals! I love your tracking journal too, so organized - you are inspiring me! Beautiful look with the blue eyeshadow, btw!

Looking forward to seeing your progress this year - you've got this! 💪

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you so much, @caitbird !! I was inspired by someone on Instagram with the tracking journal, so h/t to them!! 💪 To us all project panners

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv I love your tracking sheets!  I also love the Melt and Tower 28 cream blushes.  Such lovely formulas.  Good luck this year!  I have a feeling that shadow palette is going to go quicker than you think!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you, @missjeanie !! They're really some of my fave formulas so it'll be good to try and get through them this year--I like using them together. I also think the palette is going to go fast (hopefully!).

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

@haleyvvvv Um that tracking is amazing! I can't wait to see your progress.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you, thank you, @Samtian !! I had a little non busy time over the holidays so spent an afternoon making my tracking journal. Now, let's see if I'm still keeping up with it in June.

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Wowwy @haleyvvvv, I love that you really put your products to use: I see so many dips and those pans! You are going full pan that Fenty and Westman Atelier this year - not a question of if, but when. That's awesome!!! I like your set up for tracking progres. Grabbing popcorn and getting comfy for watching all the progress you'll be makig this year.

btw, your blue eye look in the spoiler? STUNNING!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Thank you, @itsfi !! I did feel like I cheated a little bit with including some well loved items, but it'll be a good balance of items hopefully. Now the key will be to keep up with it .

Also, thank you, thank you so much!!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Really? I don't see that as cheating at all @haleyvvvv. It's a great idea to have a mix of products at different stages of use, at least in my opinion it is. It's very smart and realistic. It provides a built in source of motivation as well. There are high and low moments when it comes to panning and having a product in your pan it! challenge that is well loved is a reminder that panning a product isn't a pipe dream, it can and does happen and the proof is right there for you to see!

Re: Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

No, this totally makes sense, @itsfi and I also look at it like that. But a small part of me is like, well these are the easier ones to finish versus a whole new one, which feels a little like performance enhancement lol.

But I appreciate these kind words. Thank you thank you, I will keep them in mind. It is possible to pan and completely finish products and we're making our way through them.
